About
CAT & ONION is a short adventure game. Find items, talk to to characters and help a friend in need. It's a bit of a fever dream, while also making just enough sense.
You play as a cat who wakes up with a craving for PANCAKES. However, this quest for pancakes does not go as planned and you have to make a tiny cosmic detour.
The game takes 30-60 minutes to complete and I hope it will leave you with a smile.

Reviews
Cute, trippy game, but very short. But for $3 (less on sale), it's worth an afternoon. Not everything has to be a 999 hour way of life.
A charming and quirky little adventure that feels like a warm, strange daydream. I had a lot of fun with its offbeat humor and unexpected moments. Talking to a stone, covering yourself in butter, and befriending a flying onion somehow all work together in a way that feels lighthearted and genuinely creative. The world is simple but full of personality, and it is the kind of game that does not overstay its welcome. It is short and relaxed, which makes it perfect for a break when you do not want anything too demanding.

CAT & ONION is a charming indie adventure that proves a memorable experience does not need to be lengthy or mechanically complex to leave an impression. Developed and published by Karl Zylinski, the game embraces quirky humor, lighthearted storytelling, and retro aesthetics to deliver an entertaining journey that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly original. Built around exploration, amusing conversations, and a delightfully absurd premise, it offers a short but satisfying adventure that values creativity over spectacle. The story begins with an ordinary craving for pancakes, but what initially appears to be a simple errand quickly transforms into a surreal adventure filled with bizarre situations and unforgettable characters. Players take control of an expressive feline protagonist whose journey leads through unusual locations populated by eccentric personalities, including the mysterious flying onion that gives the game its title. The narrative constantly surprises with its unpredictable events, blending whimsical comedy with an underlying sense of warmth that keeps the adventure engaging from beginning to end. Rather than relying on dramatic twists or emotional melodrama, the game succeeds through clever writing and an imaginative sense of humor that never takes itself too seriously. Gameplay centers on exploration and traditional adventure mechanics. Players search environments for useful objects, interact with colorful characters, and solve uncomplicated puzzles that naturally advance the story. There is almost no emphasis on combat, allowing exploration and discovery to take center stage. Occasional comedic moments, such as swinging a baseball bat for humorous effect, add variety without changing the game's relaxed pace. The straightforward design makes the experience approachable for players of all skill levels while ensuring that the focus remains on the world and its eccentric inhabitants instead of challenging gameplay systems. One of CAT & ONION's strongest qualities is its cast of memorable characters. Nearly every conversation introduces someone with a unique personality or an amusing perspective, making even minor interactions feel rewarding. The dialogue is consistently witty, embracing absurdity while maintaining enough sincerity to make the world feel surprisingly inviting. Every new encounter contributes to the game's playful identity, encouraging players to interact with everyone they meet rather than simply rushing toward the next objective. The presentation perfectly complements the game's personality. Its pixel-art graphics use a deliberately limited color palette that evokes the charm of classic retro titles while still feeling visually distinctive. Despite the minimalist approach, environments are packed with expressive details, and the animations breathe life into every scene. The visual simplicity enhances the whimsical atmosphere instead of limiting it, demonstrating how effective artistic direction can outweigh technical complexity. Accompanying the visuals is a smooth jazz-inspired soundtrack that creates a calm and cheerful mood throughout the adventure. The relaxing music pairs beautifully with the leisurely pace, making exploration feel comfortable and enjoyable from start to finish. Although the main adventure can be completed in under an hour, the game encourages curiosity by hiding optional secrets throughout its world. Players who thoroughly investigate every corner will discover additional surprises that reward careful exploration and add a small layer of replay value. The short runtime may initially seem like a drawback, especially for those seeking a lengthy adventure, but the game wisely avoids unnecessary padding. Every scene, conversation, and location contributes to the experience, resulting in an adventure that feels complete despite its brief duration. CAT & ONION stands out because it confidently embraces its own identity. Instead of trying to imitate larger adventure games with expansive worlds or complex mechanics, it focuses on delivering a concentrated dose of creativity, humor, and charm. The imaginative storytelling, lovable protagonist, amusing cast, attractive retro visuals, and relaxing soundtrack combine to create an experience that lingers in memory long after the credits roll. It is a wonderful example of how independent games can succeed through originality and heartfelt design rather than scale alone. Rating: 9/10
No mouse pointer on the main menu, and very bad controls ingame. :(
Bought this game to support Karl Zylinski who has made so many useful resources and videos for raylib and the odin programming language. If you're interested in programming at all check out his youtube channel and maybe give odin a try! Didn't regret buying Cat and Onion at all. Super short but left me feeling warm and cozy ;) Thanks so much for making this Karl.

Very fun, Karl seems like a great and passionate dev :) worth a quick playthrough!
Cute! It's silly and makes no sense, but made me grin like a fool. Play it! (I feel bad for the flour tree)
It's a very emotional game. It took 1 hour, and I'm glad that this game is not stretched in time!
Short, cozy, and relaxing. Perfect for a winter night.
