About
Cast Out Colony has been described by its players as a blend of Animal Crossing, Cult of the Lamb, and Vampire Survivors. It fuses roguelite gameplay, bullet-heaven action, and intricate town-building components to craft an entirely distinctive experience, redefining the survival genre. The meta-progression is located within the colony itself. The larger you grow your colony, the higher your character's stats become.

Super fun twist to the survivor-like genre ! you get to build a little village wich carry your passive buff in between arena round wich are the survivor-like based gameplay , i recommend for sure !
really enjoy this game a lot. i have played this game 16 hours still having lots of fun. 10/10 totally recommend.
Pros: - Interesting concept for a game (colony building meta progression on your typical bullet heaven.) - Decent aesthetic/character design. - One button option to show a chart of which actives/passives go together for skill upgrades. - You get to control the layout of upgrade facilities since they're all structures in the colony building part of the game. Cons: - No dps meters at the end of the run (makes it more difficult to figure out which actives were actually carrying the run.) - The maps the battles take place in are too small - Bad pathing for villagers (often getting stuck on things and not helping like they're supposed to.) - Flashy particle effects on some actives obscures the enemies. - Roughly half of any run becomes purely a dps check (not exactly uncommon but made worse by the lack of dps meters.) - Meta progression through colony building can become tedious quickly (large numbers of decorations are required to get bonus stats and there's a delay between each decoration you can place.) - Ultimates disable your actives while they're in use but many don't seem to do enough dps to justify it. - Active upgrades are locked behind a building that requires you pick higher rarity actives to unlock. This seems like a classic case of a game where the developers tried to cram 2 genres into each other and created a game that's all the lesser for it. It's a real shame since it seems like a promising idea but the overall implementation proves lacking. There are too many issues with the way the game plays for me to recommend it over the other options in this fairly crowded genre. Maybe with a bit of polish that could change but for now I'd suggest spending that $10 on one of the many competitors available.
Very nice little game in the vein of Cult of the Lamb or Brotato, vibrant art, fun build. Looking forward to sinking more hours into this and seeing how the game grows!
Pass. Runs aren't much fun and the base building/house keeping aspect doesn't help this any.
Several years ago, Vampire Survivors was a singular joy in my life among video games; it was novel, quirky, and deep, despite its limited mechanics. It's a masterpiece, in my view. Since then, among the many games VS inspired, only a few have risen to a similar echelon and escaped the moniker of mere pretender or clone. These are games like Death Must Die, Halls of Torment, and Deep Rock Galactic Survivor. Now to that list I'm adding Cast Out Colony. The depth of Vampire Survivors meets the fun of base building. This game is a must play.
Bought for the bugs, stayed for the addictive gameloop. It has all the elements that i was expecting from this type of game, and more! Initially, i did not think i was going to like building the colony, but it does grant some bonuses during the game so i felt compelled to do it, and it gave me a "safe space" to go back to after every run. If you're into the survivor genre, i really recommend you check this game out!
This game has been incredibly fun already! I feel like I'm just starting to sink my teeth in as I'm almost done unlocking all the skills and will be moving up into the harder difficulties soon. Highly recommend this to anyone interested in the Bullet Heaven genre!
Get yourself a lil' guy then go to town on wave after wave of mobs. Take a break in your sunny hamlet, complete with tree stump houses and creatine-can gyms. Upgrade to become the baddest bug there is. I've just scratched the surface of challenge, but I hope to unlock more cute stuff with each foul boss I fell. I will take my twig slappin, dynamite blasting, buggy fellas to victory and my village will prosper once more, no matter the smelts dealt!!
