Cassidy is set in modern times where you're taken to a Manor that has gone through a horrific event in the 1950's. Playing in a first-person perspective as a crime and investigative student, it's your job to find out as much information as you can about what happened... and to try to get out alive.
Curator page here--> DaRevieweD #78 <-- New review every Sunday
Cassidy (CSD) is solo developer Joe Jobson's very first stab at a game! So I can understand when there are bugs, especially prior to launch. But there were like way many, excluding other issues- which begs the question did anyone play test it? So, you can already probably tell where I'm leaning towards in my review. I don't mean to pat myself on the back, but it was a good thing the dev is friendly, open and flexible in his DMs~ It's strangely similar to Story of Henry Bishop (SOHB) (which was my first ever -ve review btw), except there's no combat whatsoever but more on that later. Okay, I'm not gonna beat around the bush- I was very disappointed because the trailer (pfft) made it seem way more intense and less problematic than it was! And so, Cassidy... now there's a name that's never really been that memorable, but a name is just a name, right? WRONG~ ~Day 1 review #2~
"Things Get Cold for A- Well, Reasons..."
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2435175835 The Gist: As an investigative crime journalist major, you want to prove your mettle and crack the cold case to your course mates! What better way than to write about it as a thesis!? Starts off innocently enough, until you realize the "cold" meant corpses, ghosts and your own body heat fading away...
! The trailer was the best part...

[+] PROS;
(a) The Things You Do to Graduate~ For the sake of research, you arrive at the place of tragedy and set up your gear. There's a variety of elements to the game, starting first with buildup and getting a bearing on the area; taking polaroid pictures, reading outdated newspapers and having a dope, real-time blueprint for a map!! You really came prepared... to fail! Should've worked on those sprints- which last about 8 seconds. With stalkers that roam around, simple albeit nifty puzzles to solve. There's something for every horror fan~ (b) I Forgot to MANSION... She's A Beaut! I thought it was just stunning, with a lot of options to tweak the graphics. Sadly, I couldn't push it even prettier because poor student reasons... BUT, the decision to include a number of different sites; both in gameplay style and aesthetics was rather cool. There was the aged, dingy and grand mansion. Then the basement (my fave section) pitch black and tense af. The final area, a forested remote village which was serene but alarming altogether. I admit, the jumpscares could have been better orchestrated but they do keep you guessing! A ton of false scare moments where your brain attempts to fill in the blank, so I can't say it was all cheap shots~ (c) No Better Reference Than- I can't say much about the story, except list out other films which would be probably for the best. Reminding me a little bit of The Hills Run Red (2009), Madison County(2011) and most apparently American Horror Story (S1). Which is a
ghost story
first and foremost. As for game influences; SOBH like I said earlier, the decision to use a titular name, a tragic settlement, otherworldly beings and then
satanic rituals
. But there's also traces of RE7 and Outlast as well~ https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2435218415 (d) Frozen. To Death.. SCARY: One, an interesting purview of cold cases as they've always made me feel down. As great as it is to seek out answers and find closure, there must be an explanation as to why they've been left unresolved for decades, right? Two, it's also an outcry of historical records & media publications. How much of what's reported are true...? The credibility of those articles directly affects everyone when you think about it. Three, as someone who's also working on his thesis (speaking of, lol)- I could relate as to the amount of effort, "crazy" stunts expected of you. But it also makes the concerns of health, safety come undone as you attempt to impress your supervisors.
[-] CONS;
(i) Contradictions... I wasn't a fan of the pacing; the backstory (aka newspapers) was littered around and can be found within the first few minutes of starting. Would've loved for them to be spaced apart further. Also, the unevenness to the "objectives" tab which comes and goes, some being immensely helpful, justified and others a pain in the caboodle, leaving you lost after a single, brief mention of what to do next. The worst is the forest area and mansion intro tasks... In some ways, it was unfinished and indecisive. You could pick up many everyday, inconsequential items and open drawers at the beginning portion. Until... poof. (ii) Shh-Shi* A real puzzler of a stealth, mainly because your detection rests on you running, if you walk or "sneak", chances are enemies will miss you anyway! They don't react to light and so you're free to use all your noise-making, light shining devices in hiding areas to moon the enemy. Also, the description on the Steam store page over what to expect in each area was misleading because I went "this wasn't what was advertised..." at all. Already the first area has "stealth" aspects and the second is more psychological than the first~ The sound design also suffers; immersive one second and hollow the next. You have no footsteps, and apart from door opening sounds, the occasional creepy noise... that's all! AND Items you drop don't make noise or seem very tangible. (iii) G-got That on Camera!? BUGS: - Enemies patrol routes are fixed and display clunky, restless behavior. - Object physics; phasing through floor, flying all over. - Some doors can be phased through (face and item) - Tutorials kept replaying over and over, overlapping. - Scares also repeated; lights turning off when already off, same noise on broken record. - Items get duplicated; some by mistake upon my respawn. Others intentional (newspapers) but head-scratching so...? - Ending triggered by pressing a key. DEALBREAKER: The story has no discernible payoff. Like SOHB- but at least there was that wtf punch to that! With 90% exposition early on and the rest are just small, random-ish events... I think. Was the student's thesis ever completed? I don't know. But, I didn't even bother with an analysis so~ NITPICKS: X Some vocabulary and grammar mistakes. No space between words... X Shadows not correct; holding camera but shadow is the outline of torch
"…Best Served Cold? So, Leave It Be!"
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2435222903 On the one hand, CSD showed a lot of promise on paper. On the rotting other- left much to be desired; sound, technical, plot and etc. I can't ever forget CSD and that’s the scariest thing about it~ Of course, all the issues mentioned above could be fixed rather quickly but it no doubt has soured my first impression of the game. With not much thought into replayability; achievements, trading cards whatnot... the $11 tag is way too steep and that's not right unless you're senile! But I want to leave it at a positive note. The game is breathtaking for what it is- in terms of visuals, some interesting puzzles and varied gameplay. It wasn't lazily put together but that doesn't change the fact that it may have been rushed. I also loved the references of other horror media whether intentional or not... The biggest letdown was I really had high hopes to be scared and add another game to my top indie horror- alas it wasn't meant to be. It's the dev's first after all, remember that. I hope I wasn't too harsh~
4.5/10
I'd still play the next one~ Godspeed!! Copy provided via Curator Connect, much obliged and I'm sorry...!

Thank you developers for gifting me this game to test and review.
Cassidy is a first-person horror story game where you need to investigate your surroundings in a Manor as a student. It is your job to find as much information as possible and try to figure out what exactly happened. Though, i'm not going to spoil so i'll keep it clear, simple and informative.

While playing this game from the start till end i needed to change some graphical settings here and there as my PC is using a GTX 650 which is quite bad and low. Though, the game requires a NVIDIA GeForce 510 minimum but having everything on low is highly unplayable, very glitchy and buggy and it just looks ugly so i had to adjust certain things to play smooth and get a nice view meaning that you will see detail and decent quality to experience a nice gameplay and feeling. A NVIDIA GeForce 510 is way and way to low to play smoothly so i hope the developer adjust this as i feel like a NVIDIA GeForce 970 is minimum enough due the details, quality and smooth gameplay.

While i was playing the game it was instantly horror-ish, scary feeling and felt like jumpscares could come out of nowhere which is correct. It has simple movement and controls, 3D surround sound/effects which is epic to have and the overall feeling while playing is pretty well done if you ask me. Though, there are bugs and glitches which have to be fixed. It's not really game-breaking but i got stuck multiple times. You can also jump and parkour a little bit and on certain points your head will be in the ceiling and you will basically have wallhack as you can simply look through the map. But other then that, it didn't really bother me. Quite some effects are going on like lightning effects, noises and related which gives you those goozebumps that make you feel like .. I don't want to go further which is nice to have in a game like this. A series of paranormal events will occur during your playthrough of this game. Light bulbs exploding, changing rooms, random sounds and more will help build up an atmospheric experience and give you the horror game you're looking for.

Like i said above, i'm not going to spoil to many things. Game is great and recently released and i'm sure that the developer is listening to it's community and will progress further with development which is amazing. The price is right, story is decently made, the quality/graphics are outstanding if you have a good PC, The feeling while playing is there which is a must have nowadays, the voice/music/sound effects and related gives you that feeling. Scary, horror and just creapy as hell. Well done developer, keep up with the development! I really wanted to like this game but I don't think I can recommend it for it's price. It has a lot of bugs and was pretty confusing on where you should go next or how to progress the story. I mean I could just be an idiot and missed some clue but i spent a long time looking for how to move forward with the story. The notes where not written the best and were pretty repetitive as well. I had played the demo a while ago and was looking forward to the full release as long as the bugs and issues were fixed but it doesn't look like it. Also in terms of scariness after you first encounter the monsters they lose their scare pretty quick. Yeah at this point I really couldn't recommend which sucks cause it looks like a lot went into making this game. If you want to take a look at my first play through you can watch the link below. https://youtu.be/5Aw33KHJM9c
I was given the honour of Alpha and Beta testing this game and i honestly loved it. The visuals were stunning and the Audio was so realistic. The game has a good balance of jump scares and the enemies fit the environments and story well. The story is engaging and myself and my viewers were speculating throughout my play through. A big thank you to the developer of this great game for giving me the opportunity to test this game and give input etc and i hope to see you make more!
It's broken. I accidentally rebound the keys for the functions to crouch and jump over some other keys that the game has defined must be reserved for other actions e.g. replace battery/open inventory. What this means is the pre-reserved functions no longer work. Now if I reset key bindings to default or rebind those commands to other keys, it still doesn't help. The game is unplayable. Aside from that, when it was working, it wasn't overly impressive. You walk around, finding keys, unlocking doors. The main monster in this springs a couple of pre-scripted jump scares on you, but beyond that was easy to avoid. Avoid.
The game is well made, But you do have to follow the path that has been set forth for you. If you do things out of order it does break or you may get frustrated. Overall I'm excited to see more from this developer in the future. I still have to finish, but overall I think it's good. Honestly I intend to finish it solely because I want to see all the spooks that have been put into the game, A lot of them are really good. It's a very atmospheric game and it does well in this regard.
Я Вам так скажу: меня хватило на 10 минут, и потом я почувствовал, что мне становится плохо. Это явно не для меня. Но это очень жуткий хоррор. Начало моего "марафона" :https://youtu.be/myWg13n_X0g
