Big fan of Football Coach: College Dynasty and was looking for something similar for college hoops. Found it! Great highly-responsive dev who is coming out with frequent enhancements and fixes. Despite early access already a very immersive and fun game, with tons of potential to continue getting better! Be sure to grab the real world team and logo mods.
This is a coaching sim that does not allow any in game coaching no strats, no substitutions, no shot selection it's all handled with pregame sliders, and you are only allowed to watch if you are ok with that, it's probably good(lots of folks seem to like recruiting simulators these days) but if you, like me, enjoy in game strategy, this is not the correct selection for you
I originally bought this for my son, who enjoys simulators. Given the cost, I told myself I would be happy if it held his interest for a few hours. Fast forward and I find myself at 55 hours and counting, entering my 22nd season, and chasing my third national title! Even in early access, the game already has a strong foundation. I also appreciate that the developer is active on Discord and has a clear roadmap for future features. During my extensive playthrough, I only encountered one bug, which I reported to the developer. Within a day, they pushed a patch to fix the issue! Talk about customer support! I also like that the game already allows for custom databases to tweak the names of teams and update logos. At first, I was disappointed that you can't (yet) do the same for players, but I've come to realize that's not a problem, given how quickly the seasons progress when simulating. Even if you could start with real rosters, everyone would soon graduate/leave and need to be replaced by fictional players. If you're interested in college basketball or sports simulators, I suggest giving this one a shot. There are not many options out there for college basketball and this one is accessible enough for all ages. I'm looking forward to continuing to follow this game's development, but enough now it works well enough and has a lot to offer. I trust it only gets better from here so it's well worth the price of entry.
For $5 don't even think twice about buying this game, just do it. This game will surprise you with it's depth. You can choose your teams tendencies. Such as, how quick your team looks to get shots up. Whether it's early in the shot clock or if you like to play slower tempo or a nice balance. You can choose if your team prefers a perimeter based offense or if they prefer to work inside. Players have archetypes and there's even different training programs to target specific areas of their game. Players can transfer for different reasons and your school can gain or lose prestige depending on success. Players can also declare for the NBA draft. You also have the Conference and National tournaments to battle for as well. Not to mention trying land program changing recruits. You also have the ability to add photos/logos as well as use community made databases. All of these cool features for a $5 game paired with a great solo developer that listens to the community and does his best to fix any issues that arise as quickly as possible. And the game isn't even done improving.
Its good. Reminds me of Football Coach: College Dynasty but isn't quite at that level yet. Player input comes from setting the training approach for your team along with allocating minutes and offensive priority to your players. I'd like to be able to target train specific players in certain areas rather than just generally train the whole team in one. Also, it would be nice to be able to choose defensive/offensive playbooks or style for the team. Maybe be able to call a specific play with a timeout? Looking forward to future updates.
A bit shallow at the moment, would love more depth in gameplanning (rotations timeline & roles especially), recruiting(!!!), departing players (why are rotation players leaving bc of team quality after a CT win and a final four appearance and why are my starters leaving bc of playing time? Why can't I convince a projected 2nd round pick to return for another year?) and training (individualized training would be great). Other hopes would be player personalities (would be a fun dilemma for great players w bad personalities and mid players with great personailities), more realistic player generation (so many tiny guys or 6'2" 180lbs playmaking forwards or 6'8" 245lbs non-playmaking guards), better stat simulation—great shooters who are bad finishers often shoot like 10 2s and 2 3s a game for some reason. All this said, even in its raw state, it is still the best on the market for college basketball, especially at its price point! I still have a lot of fun and am happily along for the development ride!
I'm having a lot of fun with the game. If you ever played Football Coach: College Dynasty, this is basically that but with basketball. I'd highly recommend it, though it is not without it's problems in all honesty. For some reason in recruiting, there are just certain recruits that once you've targeted, you just cannot untarget. It, seemingly at random, will just have certain players where you can click to untarget them as much as you want but it won't do anything. The recruiting rankings are also not great. It values transfers way too highly in my opinion, where a recruiting class of nothing but a few transfers will rank much higher than a recruiting class of several 5* players. It can also be frustrating that you don't have any control at all in game. So sometimes you just get unlucky and your team of all 90+ OVR players will just get stomped by some bottom feeder team, and there is just nothing you can do about it. I get that upsets like that happen IRL, but at least IRL the coach can do something about it and at least try to stop the bleeding, while in this game you're only able to sit and watch as your team falls apart. It would be better if I could at least make substitutions in game, and pull a guy that is maybe having an off day to sub in a hot hand or something. All that being said, I love the game and have a ton of fun with it. I know this review is mostly complaints, but they are really the ONLY complaints I have and I only voice them in the hope that the game gets even better in the future.
Hello reader! so i don't usually write reviews but I felt the need to write a review concerning this game. starting out, the game was already pretty buggy asking me to continue a game save without me actually ever opening the game or playing a match, which is fine in the grand scheme of things. I think the game interface is a bit too buggy as well although I'm kind of in the middle about the whole modern UI about the game, It looks nice but I think that's why it's so buggy. Before you load up a save you make a manager and choose a team, i'm not sure how randomized players on each team are per save or even how the seeding works. Id love if before the season they not only tell you your predicted seeding but who the projected Player of the season in your team and in that conference or even in the nation is, and projected best coach, underdog player, underdog team, comeback story, just small things like that. (Both seasons they predicted me going 27-3 so may be a coincidence but might speak to the overall depth of the game) One of my biggest disappointments with the game was just how out of touch with the game I was, I didn't feel quite immersed. I'd love if they showed instead of dots on the court, the players heads and who shot it, and maybe even their field goal %, things like that make games have more immersion. now onto the BIGGEST letdown was not being able to change specific game-plans during the match, there should be some type of button i can press leading me to switch defensive formation from 2-3, to man, or aggressive defense, and same with offense, maybe i'm losing the three point game and I want my team to chuck up threes to see if we can get back into the game. It needs more playability along side tactics, maybe let me help the team practice somehow, or let the user shoot for one of the players, like other coaching games do (I had an un-ranked team not miss a single shot until the second half, I was the #4 team in the country, and I essentially just had to let it happen lmao). This game is definitely a work in progress, it feels like it's missing something I might not have the answer to that specifically, but those are some of my opinions. As for what this game did well, I love, again, the UI its a love hate relationship, maybe i want the option for light mode or something a bit more smooth. I loved the in depth off-season letting us sign players who are in the portal along with HS recruits, Loved the NBA draft implamintation, Do I like this game yes, would I recommend it to someone yes, am I going to play it again probably not (atleast not until I have more control over coaching in actual game). But this game is a great project and the creators are heading towards the right direction, after all this game is only like $5 so if you have the money and time i recommend you see what its about. Kinda wrote a lot, hope someone reads it but great game overall lmao 3.9/5!
As someone who mostly plays strategy games, this is a very fun college basketball strategy game. I hope in future updates that there is the ability to make coaching decisions when watching the games.
Almost free, regular update, dev that listens to his audience. What else ?
