Beyond Hanwell is an indie horror FPS adventure game created entirely by one person. In this game your character explores a huge, extremely detailed map of London. The goal of the game is to find 5 keycards hidden deep inside certain buildings of the map, usually dropped by defeating unique monster bosses. Once obtaining the 5 keycards you may unlock the final area and finish the game. There are approximately 20 melee weapons to find, 2 guns, and several different kinds of bombs you can create at a workbench. The game is non linear, with no waypoints. You must search the map on your own, read notes, and use your own brain and instincts to solve the mystery of Hanwell. The game took just over 6 hours to complete and achieve all 100% of the achievements. + The atmosphere and immersion in this game is unparalleled. The game feels like a smaller version of Dead Island, but more dark, isolated, lonely, and personal. The graphics maxed out are outstanding, almost photorealistic at times. The enemies are placed at a slower rate, allowing for a more creepy, lonely, adventure experience. + There are approximately 7 bosses and each one is unique and well designed. + The voice acting is top notch. + The sound effects, soundscapes, and original music are all amazing. The red ceiling sirens in this game were exceptional on headphones, super creepy and with a heft. + Many fun secret buildings to discover and explore, with many fun interesting weapons to find. + No in-game HUD, perfect for total immersion. +/- Some people might say that the open world feels a bit "Empty" at times, however that is what I enjoyed most about this game. The sense of dread and loneliness. Also, according to the game's story, there is a reason why the streets are mostly derelict and empty... +/- The puzzles in this game are excellent and mostly original. However, the fact that you are completely on your own with no help will throw off some players. Again, some puzzles blend in with the environment, explore everywhere. Running the game on max graphics helps, you must really explore the environments properly. - I beat the whole game without finding the basic shotgun which is a bit odd. You're really on your own in this game! - There have been many reports of bugs and crashes in this game. My game was 100% perfect. However I believe this game is an unoptimized computer hog. I would highly recommend a strong computer that is capable of ray tracing with ease to play this game, to truly experience the detailed environments. I believe the developer released the game a year too early, bit off more than he could chew, causing many negative reviews when the game was released. This game will age like fine wine and become a cult classic over time. Overall: 9.5/10

Expected a cool horror game with good graphics and decent combat. I get a game with good graphics, cringe story, awful zoomie combat with left/right mouse buttons mashing and an empty world.
Honestly, I enjoyed this so much more than I expected. Yes it's got some really annoying jank. But it scratched that itch I had for playing something like Condemned. Granted, the combat is not as fluid and some of the AI is really suspect, but nothing beats using a crowbar as a weapon (you really missed out using rebarb as a weapon). Enemy variety is well...um...a bit uninspired, I would've preferred some more variation. Boss battles are a slog, bullet sponges at best. I had to beat the final boss with just a sledgehammer because I ran out unloading on the guy. Flares are helpful but I wish there was a bulking UI feature so my backpack wasn't loaded up with unused junk. Also, I get vomiting blood isn't cool, but I still have no idea what the meds ever did. I just took them every now and then to clear out inventory. It sounds like I'm beating the game up, but I really did love my time with it. It's incredibly moody, has a lot of charm and a few jumps out of me I wasn't expecting. The small city area is nicely detailed and I like the variation of the interior environments. This is probably one of the only unreal engine games I've played that doesn't run like complete garbage as well. Sound design (minus the horrible tape recordings- bro I had to use subtitles to understand what they were saying) is also very atmospheric. I would've maybe liked this game more with less bullet sponges and more stalking/hunting creatures, ultimately reducing ammo count and making me fight smarter with blunt weapons than forcing me to rely on a shotgun or molotov to clear some harder enemies. Story was a bit meh, I found out midway this was not the first game, so I was a bit unsure of what was going on. Maybe it would be better if I play the original. I do appreciate the flexibility the game provides me, the sandbox is very much open for me to explore. And for a game with a small team, I think it surpasses some environmental design some of those big developers make. I have a lot of criticisms, but in the end I was spooked, I had fun, I completed the game, which I cannot say about 98% of my library. Would strongly recommend even with some of the issues mentioned beforehand.
Not a bad game, but controlling your character is not that smooth. I like using controllers, but the movement is not that great, but other than that this game so far is not bad.
我看这女鬼也是风韵犹存啊
It's bloody crap innit
I rate this game a 7.75/10. Some of the things it excels at are the atmosphere/environments, locations/exploration, story telling, overall horror aspect, crafting mechanics, weapon types, and enemy types. However, it does have some significant flaws, being random temporary frame rate drops (sometimes down to like 10-30 fps), combat is slow and clunky, and the control scheme is interesting to say the least. People who are complaining in the comments about not finding the shotgun obviously didn't explore the map even a little bit since it's not hard to find. I think this game is worth it for like $20 but only if you're open to exploring every part of the map and experiencing everything it has to offer. If you only care about the story then I wouldn't pay over $10 dollars since it's a short experience. Overall, I really enjoyed this game and I think it's a must play for horror lovers. I do think that this game is something special but the gameplay is holding it back from being something great. Perhaps that's a reflection of the experience of the devs but idk, I don't make games for a living.
Whilst the game will please those of a horror-enthusiast persuasion, I feel that for most of us it doesn't cut the mustard. The visuals - excluding the generic monsters - are impressive, but don't redeem the lack of interesting or challenging puzzles, poor combat, sparse story and lack of proper tutorials. Add to that a confusing inventory system and ability to miss important items (I needed the shotgun - where is it?) and you have another mediocre game that you'd like to see the end of much sooner than you should. I will say that the developers have achieved some uniqueness in their game, but I feel that where the game shines, it doesn't do so brightly. Simply put, the early promise of a mid-tier horror falls flat, and quickly.
This game is relatively short but a lot of fun. The story is pretty decent if not always coherent. For being an indie game the mechanics are fairly solid. The puzzles aren't difficult so you end up feeling superior.
