At first the game and its ideas are nice. Once you come to the third neighbourhood, there is no way to go forward with the building permit and somehow remove the orphan homes and there is no help with it at all. After that the game keeps on crashing on steam proton and I can't enter it again. Not playable now, so not recommended.
TL;DR Great concept, terrible execution. Possibly the definition of form over function.
I want to love this. It's a interesting and engaging concept - anthropomorphised buildings with likes and dislikes all jostling for a position in this weirdly 2D side-scrolling city. Unfortunately, the controls are fiddly & frustrating and the mechanics poorly explained if not simply poorly thought-out. That the game is difficult is no issue at all - it's an engaging enough concept to make puzzle-solving fun. Alas, the mechanics are so convoluted and unclear that it quickly becomes frustration central. Although each type of business has set requirements and effects, these are very poorly presented, with the player having to go back through the menu system time and time again to remind themselves of what they are. You will waste such considerable time scrolling through poorly-designed menus that any fun is sapped out of the experience. As much as I love the idea of anthropomorphic city, this concept would lend itself much better to an abstracted tile-based puzzler with a clean, refined UI able to display all necessary info on mouse-over.
so many bugs still. I keep having to reload every few minutes. And for some reason, you can't manually save/load game. So if you screwed up big time, you're gonna have to start aaaaallllll the way back to the beginning.
DONT GET THIS GAME - BUGS THAT HARD LOCK THE GAME AND ABANDONED BY DEVELOPER Look, I do Love this Game, the Idea and how they gave the buildings personalities, their Chatter, everything HOWEVER it is totally Buggy. Soooo many Bugs. With the Same Game (Family Sharing) you have different Problems depending on the which PC/Laptop/Notebook you Play IT on. I never had this Problem; it is Strange yet unsolveable this far. I for one cant leave the Tutorial Level. For whatever reason, IT did Not register that the Level sends me to go over the Bridge, so i'm stuck, No second Level gets unlocked. No Access to the Game at large. My streaming Family member Who was so excited about the Game Had the Problem, that the Game randomly threw them Out of a Level into the Main Menu. The Problem? Starting the Level means all Progress from before is lost and you need to start a new. Without being able to skip the talking swiftly, they Sometimes got thrown Out before they reached the Point of Progress they Had before. Moving buildings worsened the amount of Times they got ejected, and asking the buildings for advise did freeze the level sometimes. This gets frustrating very quickly, AS you can Imagine, and they ultimately ditched the Game in Front of about 20 viewers, which were interested in it. It is a shame 😩 I did Hope they would fix it someday but sadly there is no
I usually love these types of puzzle games but unfortunately I just couldn't get into it. The game feels really clunky, at least on pc and the playability was more exhausting then it was fun. I feel like most of the time I was just running back and forth, I wish I could have zoomed out a little but there is no option for this. It's a real shame because the art is gorgeous, the music cute and the overall theme of the game is great, unfortunately I just couldn't get into it. The explanation and the guides were a bit much too and the transition between levels needed more explanation/guidance. I play games to have fun, not to read, this games explanations felt like an ikea pamphlet.
Perfect? No. But charming and challenging? Absolutely. I'd been looking forward to this game since first reading about its development, and bought it on release day. I found several aspects frustrating such as the lack of mouse control, which was fixed almost immediately. Despite the cartoon-ish style, this is not a mindless sandbox toy; you have to think and plan and figure out puzzle-like situations. I felt right chuffed to achieve certain objectives, which reminds me that non-Brits may find some of the terms confusing. If you're tired of the same old games (shooters, zombies, oh how original... not), then you may enjoy hanging out with some happy -- or crabby! -- buildings.
Positives:
- The game has great story telling, who said buildings don't have feelings? - The game implemented negative and positive effects in a good way, which were logical yet funny statements. Like rented rooms don't want to live too close to factory chimneys. - The buildings were made as a resemblance of people, in which Blackstaff did an awesome job. You can really see the character buildings having eyes, mouths or even mustaches. - The game is very refreshing in its category, it's a very different city management simulator. - The missions are very rewarding since you earn brick currency you have to use for building newer buildings. - The game really has you figuring out where to place your buildings, since you want to please them all.
What can be done better:
- Nothing to add on what to make the game better.
Issues I had:
- There wasn't a ability to remap the buttons, which was quite messy on keyboard, I had to look down multiple times since I was not familiar with spacebar as a confirmation button and Q as a back button.
Accessibility:
- There are no accessibility settings in the game.
