love the asteroid enemies
Nice enough arcade shooter, but I did not like the controls. The drifting and the final boss do not mess very well.

Bug Blast cons: too few maps. weapon cooldown was bad. sucks.
I immediately caught on to the homage and anticipated my fate, but I didn't quite expect the game to hold up a sizable difficulty to match. After a few losses, I had begun to master the precise trigger-and-sweep movements that makes the laser the only weapon you need for the rest of the game. The Eater of Stars also took me a couple of tries, until I learned that the laser is still the most effective weapon when used in even quicker bursts to snipe the vulnerable segments from afar, while simultaneously clearing the path of incoming asteroids. The game is such a convincing clone of another famous Nerve beater that it could probably pass for a legitimate spiritual successor. The momentum and object density are as hectic as ever, but a chunky pool of health counterbalances these design elements. The weapons feel fine conceptually, but throwing bombs is so much less reliable than lasers and the pacing gets somewhat fumbled before the boss. Sinistar is probably only as famous as he is because he yells at you saying he's going to eat you, and you'd be so lucky to make it far enough to encounter him anyway. Here, I enjoyed reading in a meta-narrative about wiping out all the smaller bugs for an enormous bug to get lured out. I may be a sucker for Terraria, but I think The Destroyer is one of my least favorite bosses, and so I appreciate the OHKO on the worm's segments instead of a ridiculous health bar that you have to whittle down on one remaining segment that you can barely hit each time. Bug Blast gets an A for Arthropod Stir-fry.

Sa ma pris la tête j'ai ragequit
Bug Blast is a student project from DigiPen. One of the first things students should be taught in game development is that 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid 1990's with dedicated 3D cards like the Voodoo3 and the ATI Rage. But the students were deliberately mistaught that's it's okay to release obsolete 2D games in the 3D era of gaming... certainly any professional developer seeing a prospective new hire who doesn't even know about 3D gaming probably isn't going to give them a job. Needless to say if an educational institution taught me incorrectly on purpose, I'd ask for my money back. is a very basic and pointless 2D arcade shoot 'em up no more advanced than the arcade machines of the 1990's, but what's remarkable about this is that it was made in 2020, from a class of students being fleeced by a university that apparently thinks it's ok to teach students that the art game development stopped hard in 1989 and didn't advance since. Is this some kind of joke? We also have to question what value there is for gamers on Steam when institutions flood the store with low quality 2D video game homework assignments... sure, it might make the students feel good about themselves, but this has no benefit for gamers who have to wade through this stuff to find professionally made 3D games. On pricing, this is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
