The original bubble ghost was released in 1987 on the Atari ST, soon after this it was ported to pretty much every home computer available, I remember playing this on 8-bits and the Commodore Amiga.
A sad tale has been added to the game (shown in comic book like cut scenes) and you play one of the main characters, Heinrich Von Schinker a famous inventor.
The aim of the game hasn't changed much, controlling the ghost, you have to blow the bubble to the end of each level, while avoiding traps and other dangers.
Unlike the original, this version has 3 difficulty settings, assisted which makes the game a bit easier, adds some checkpoints and an optimal, automatic rotate control.
This automatic control adjusts the ghost to the correct side of the bubble each time, to save you rotating yourself, it can be toggled on or off in the assisted mode.
The normal difficulty is where I started and played through most of the review, only switching to assisted to see how much easier it was, not a lot to be honest.
The third difficulty is an unlock-able one called Heroic.
The game is incredibly challenging and wont be for everyone, if you have the patience, this can be, a good mixture of fun and frustration, as you guide the little bubble to safety.
Spiders and all sorts of nasties await you in each level, as do many traps galore and every pixel of the background can pop the bubble so be careful.
If you're quick enough on some levels you can collect spectral portals, but you need to supper quick to catch them, collectables with story bits are also fun to collect.
The main thing i remember from the original is the difficulty, this hasn't changed much at all, it was tough back then and its just as tough now.
After so many levels, you get face a boss, I played the first boss off stream and came close to defeating him but haven't yet.
Sound and music are good but what I enjoyed the most was your little ghost whistles popular tunes, I heard a-ha take on me and the song popcorn, these had me humming along and made the game a lot more fun.
Repeating the level over and over will be common, some levels are longer then others, so this will ramp up the frustration even more, this certainly wont be for everyone, you need a lot of patience, trust me.
Graphically the game is very pretty, the devs have done a fantastic job with the remake, colours, backgrounds, animations etc. all look great and there are even some new story intros.
The regular price at over £16 may seem a little steep for some, the game has at least 40 levels though and new modes to unlock so its not too bad value for money.
Fans of the original will probably love this, newcomers will need the patience of a saint.
The fun just about overtook the frustration so I`m awarding it a GamerPauly Says.... Get Ya Money Out!
