Extremely overpriced. The original retro game (sole reason I purchased) is a solid port except your highscores are not saved between sessions!

I only bought this for the arcade version, which is a masterpiece of a game. I'm glad this implementation is at least playable, but it doesn't save high scores, and can't even play over the network. you're better off just downloading a NES emulator and playing it there (where you can also save your progress, get level codes, etc.) The game BB4 itself is really quite bad. maybe it's for very, very young children? I think for children under 5 years old, BB4 might be playable. the graphics are ok, but it's boring and repetitive. a real cash-grab where they just skinned a few easy puzzles and added some 3D fluff between levels. overall, this is a huge disappointment, and i bought it discounted for like $11. I think it's like $20 full-priced, which seems like an abomination.

Some of my favourite arcade memories come from playing the original Bubble Bobble, and over the years I played it on everything from the Commodore 64 to the Master System. Bubble Bobble 4 Friends brings back that same gameplay I loved, with new worlds, fun co-op and some great new boss battles. The updated mechanics work well, and it’s easy to fall back into the rhythm of trapping enemies, popping bubbles and racing through stages with friends. The visuals are clean and modern, but they don’t quite carry the charm of the original pixel art. Those sprites are so iconic that it’s hard to move away from them. Still, this is an impressive update that sticks close to the original formula while adding fresh ideas and extras. Including the original arcade game was the perfect touch.

I am upvoting this for the cute little dragons inside (tm). :) Like other reviews confirmed: - Way overpriced, buy on huge discount only. - Short. - No graphical options to tune things that you would expect in a PC port. - Seems to have no FPS lock. So running this at 144 FPS+ is a challenge. - No direct online co-op. To put it in a nutshell: Grab the C64, NES, even the Gameboy version instead.

Bubble Bobble war mein Lieblingsspiel. Ja ich bin sehr alt. Stunden haben wir auf dem c64 geübt um dann in der Spielhalle (damals noch für Kinder zugänglich) in Teams um neue Rekorde zu spielen. Noch heute, fast 40 Jahre später, spiele ich die ersten 50-60 Level blind durch und weiß noch genau wo welcher Power up erscheint. Ich habe es mal als Mame Version auf einem Raspberry installiert. Das ist cool und macht selbst meinen Kindern noch Spaß. Jetzt habe ich es hier auf steam entdeckt und mich gefreut das auf dem steam Deck auf der Couch spielen zu können. 40 Euro ist zwar viel aber wenn es perfekt umgesetzt ist, zahle ich das gerne. Für wen der nostalgie Faktor fehlt, ist es sicherlich zu teuer. Das Spiel ist nicht verifiziert, trotzdem habe ich es versucht. Es läuft prima auf dem steam Deck mit minimalen Anpassungen. Leider ist das gameplay nicht wie in der Original Version. Blasen werden zur Seite geschoben wo sie im original platzten und umgekehrt. Das timing ist auch anders. Sehr schade, man sollte doch meinen dass es möglich sein muss das Spiel wie die Original (Arcade Version) zu machen. Selbst auf dem Nintendo war die Umsetzung besser. Für 40 Euro ist es einfach zu schlecht gemacht. Zum Glück gibts Rückerstattungen bei steam.

I'm going to start this with - The game is okay, It's bubble bobble with some 'new features' at least for me as I pretty much only played the original classic arcade (which is available in the game). However, whom ever created the interface and default button assignment for controllers, hates people and made every effort for the UX to be as painful as possible.

At a deep discount, this is the perfect opportunity to grab both the OG Bubble Bobble along with it's 21st counterpart. Picked it up at -70% and currently having a blast playing with my infernal toddler.
