Конец дождю, смерчам, грозе и грозам. horrible controls make this a non-starter, on top of other issues. supposedly just click stuff to select, then craft or destroy to get materials, items and whatnot, but as soon as level 5 it became a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mess. after whatever I thought logical was exhausted (e.g. character movement, which is inconsistent and unclear to begin with, is cosmetic only, and drops are random), I simply followed the tutorial prompts to move on. then gave up soon after, not gonna take 46 levels of this nonsense. always start from zero, make the same things you just made on the previous level to use them to make another thing, and so on. it's tedious as ♥♥♥♥, clicking an unlocked recipe should simply create the item next time. already figured out the puzzle, don't make me repeat it 50 times. the rest of the ui is awful as well. there's a campaign and some challenges but level select is the 'scroll a list left/right one by one' variety, the worst. could easily fit on a single screen. there are a ton of settings but again, a long-ass list on the bottom, scroll through them one by one. feels like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ mobile game with only the middle of the screen used but I couldn't find a mobile version. some of the items are practically invisible too, dark ones on a dark background. there's an optional circle highlighter but it's useless if I don't know what it's highlighting, and while there are tooltips for icons, there aren't any for items on the level. great functionality otherwise, volumes, resolutions, windowed mode, can turn off all the on-screen distractions separately (clouds, birds, screen shake, etc.), tweak mouse and controller settings, even set the save location, which should be a thing in every game. and while the close window button is always in the corner, whether it's a smaller window or not, right click elegantly closes it. another major annoyance is the level number and name slooooowly floating upwards in the middle of the screen from bottom to top every single time. the same info is permanently etched into the bottom right corner as well, so why the ♥♥♥♥ would you show it twice, in such an obtrusive way, and without the ability to disable it like everything else? insane. some of these problems were brought up years ago but a patch never happened, just the usual ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ excuses. and turns out, the guy does game development for a living, so it's absolutely unacceptable that he didn't fix anything here over the years. it could've been something interesting in more capable hands but as it is, don't bother.

Brushwood Buddies is an indie puzzle and crafting game developed and published by Steven Colling that embraces a lighthearted woodland theme while offering far more depth than its presentation initially suggests. At first glance, the game appears to be a simple adventure featuring cute forest creatures gathering resources, but it gradually unfolds into an intricate exercise in planning, experimentation, and resource management. Players take control of a group of animal companions as they travel through a variety of environments, collecting materials and transforming them into useful items through an extensive crafting system. The game's premise is uncomplicated, yet it succeeds in creating a surprisingly compelling gameplay loop built around discovery and problem-solving. The most impressive aspect of Brushwood Buddies is its crafting mechanic. Every level challenges players to work with a limited set of resources while uncovering recipes that become increasingly elaborate as the campaign progresses. Managing inventory space becomes just as important as understanding which ingredients combine together, forcing players to think carefully before committing to a particular course of action. The game does an admirable job of introducing new concepts at a steady pace, ensuring that early levels serve as a foundation for the more demanding puzzles that await later. With over a hundred recipes to uncover and numerous objectives to complete, there is a satisfying sense of progression that encourages players to continue experimenting. Visually, Brushwood Buddies adopts a colorful and minimalist art direction that fits its whimsical setting. The small cast of woodland creatures is expressive and memorable, helping establish a cozy atmosphere that remains consistent throughout the experience. The soundtrack complements this aesthetic with pleasant background tracks that enhance the game's relaxed tone. However, beneath its cheerful appearance lies an unexpectedly dark sense of humor. Players will occasionally find themselves making ethically questionable decisions in pursuit of resources, creating amusing contrasts that prevent the game from feeling overly saccharine. This subtle edge gives Brushwood Buddies a personality that distinguishes it from many other indie puzzle titles. The game also benefits from its additional modes and replayability features. Challenge levels offer more difficult scenarios for experienced players, complete with medal rankings and competitive leaderboards that reward efficient solutions. Perhaps the most noteworthy inclusion is the support for user-created content. Players can design their own puzzles, recipes, and scenarios, extending the game's longevity well beyond the main campaign. For an independently developed title, the inclusion of modding tools demonstrates an admirable commitment to player creativity and helps maintain interest long after the initial playthrough is complete. Despite its strengths, Brushwood Buddies occasionally struggles with accessibility. As the number of available crafting combinations increases, the game can become overwhelming, particularly for players who prefer more direct puzzle experiences. Some later stages rely heavily on experimentation, and the occasional randomness in resource availability may lead to moments of frustration. There are instances where progress feels less like solving a puzzle and more like navigating a complex web of possibilities through trial and error. While dedicated players will likely appreciate this challenge, others may find the learning curve steeper than expected. Ultimately, Brushwood Buddies is a hidden gem that successfully blends crafting, puzzle-solving, and strategic resource management into a charming package. It may not have the production values of larger indie releases, but it compensates with creativity, depth, and an impressive amount of content. Steven Colling's passion for the project is evident in every aspect of its design, from its lovable characters to its robust crafting system and community-driven features. Players willing to invest time in mastering its mechanics will discover an engaging and rewarding experience that continues to hold its appeal years after release. Rating: 7/10
