Brownie's Adventure

Drunk pixel art Randy Marsh (with an Ishboo updo that's somehow also a side-pony) wanders around in front of early 90s pixel art. There's magic, and a unicorn carriage ride on a grassy rainbow in space. It's not perfect. The difference in resolution and detail between the characters and backgrounds is jarring. I caught a few spelling errors, and Brownie's place is shifted slightly left, leaving a blank white line on the right edge. And I've only just managed to leave the town, so it seems there's more to explore. None of this should work at all, but it somehow manages to. The amateurish tone made me nostalgic for the early AGS games, when everyone was getting their hands on the engine and tinkering their way into silly adventures. It's unpolished AF, but the writing, humor, and puzzles are solid.

If you're a fan of 80's/90's adventure games then you'll find this to be a joy. The writing is fantastic, the jokes are funny and the puzzles are just on the right level of challenging without being obtuse. The fun the team at Beardy Rambling Games must have had making this really comes through. Plus its only a fiver, might as well give it a go.

A classic point and click adventure, with some ugly graphics, granted there are far worse out there, and the graphics can easily be overlooked if the rest was good. But sadly i found out it wasn't. I am suprised it only got positive reviews, and not even 1 bad, but if you look further a majority are with people that got <10 reviews in total and that stuff i always find shady. Pro's: -It's a classic styled point and click adventure. -The price is decent versus what you get. Cons: -Not much really good puzzling, the obvious items in the room are clearly visible (i guess that's a pro, if you don't like pixel hunting). -Game advertises dark humor, but there is really not much humor at all, the game tries to be funny but it's not. Cutting an eye out of a frog that is alive, stealing clothes from someone that is dying, and just a lot of swearing, that is considered the "humor" part. -Several achievements requiring different endings which makes it even more tedious to get 100% achievements, it's just a very cheap and lazy way to unnecessarily make the game "longer". On itself different endings aren't bad but don't tie achievements to it then, especially when the different endings are only like 10 different lines. Don't get me wrong, i can really understand the dev putting a lot of love in it, and still continue to fix things, and perhaps it's just not my taste. They say the second one is better, here is to hoping. 5.5/10.

Brownie's adventure is a graphically ugly game, but underneath it all is a funny and most importantly very playable PnC adventure game. There are still some bugs present, but the game is completable and has some fun classical puzzles. So don't let the look of the game fool You into thinking it's some shovelware game and give it a try if You like adventure games. It deserves to gain steam full profile features at least.

My friend recommended this to me saying it looked like "my kind of thing". Well he was right! On the surface this isn't the most good looking game, which is a nice way of saying it's a bit crap ;) But it's not meant to be the next blockbuster, it's a product of one man (with a beard who apparently likes rambling) that obviously has a great love for the adventure game genre and that shines through all that mess of pixels! Once I started on Brownie's Adventure I just couldn't stop playing, and it has an irreverent sense of humour that I found hilarious at times XD If you're put off by the graphics just give it a go and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised, and if you like this then the sequel just came out...

A hilarious point and click adventure which won't trouble your GPU but will tickle the old CPU *taps head*. A labour of love that shines through with every piece of charming dialog or beautifully imagined scene.

Awesome game, As a 36 year old northerner who grew up on Monkey Island, this one hits right at home. The graphics are nostalgic which adds to it too. 5/5

The art style is weird but the game is really funny. If you like Red Dwarf/Monty Python sort of humour I'd recommend it. Puzzles are actually good (not too hard) and the game is a good length for the price. If you can get past the weird juxtaposition of art styles there's a genuinely hilarious game here. Glad I took a punt on it.

I love this game. It is absolutely hilarious and the game play takes me back to my childhood. I know the artist has put his heart, soul and humour into designing this game!
