Brighter Shores is an all new adventure from award winning MMORPG designer Andrew Gower. It is an enchanting point-and-click style RPG with hundreds of hours of gameplay, set in a land of magic and mysteries, with a huge number of professions to try, and something new to find around every corner.
Revenue comes from in-game items and microtransactions, which our price-based model doesn't estimate. The player count below is how many people own it, not what they spent.

the quests are alright and ui is decent, I like the environment, npc designs and humour but this might be the most antisocial mmo i've ever played (your interactions are set to NOBODY by default lol). because there's no social element you're just left with the monotony of grinding skills that seem to take at least twice as long as OSRS, if not more, for some indiscernible reason (number go up i guess). I know they're reworking combat because it does currently *feel* terrible; how am I getting upgrades for equipment but fights are no easier or they're dealing more damage? in summary, what's the point?
It's chill and enjoyable. Good when you're watching something on another monitor that doesn't require too much attention. It's the kind of game that I play off and on and is more appealing to me than any current version of Runescape. The skills interact nicely and development seems to be inching its way along pretty consistently. The subscription requirement after the first two zones feels weird though. It's too expensive for what it gives and it removes the sense of "play whenever I'm in the mood" because now you feel like you need to make your monthly payments worth it. The first two zones are still a decent amount of content so even if you don't pay there's still stuff to do, I just feel like a subscription model doesn't match this kind of game at all.

there seems to be many quality of life things this game has that other games lack, like maps features
When it comes to the good: this is probably the only game I've been able to comfortably play with only touchpad, in an armchair, while listening to an audiobook. The graphics are pretty decent. I enjoyed that some NPCs react different to your character if you have armor with the "Guards" prefix. The bad: This game as a steep early grind, with no discernible reason. You quickly find out that to be able to go to the next step of some early-game quests (I'm talking the third and fourth quest you get) you need to grind up professions to a pretty high level, with nothing that makes the grind feel meaningful. And if you were to do the grind doing very repetitive tasks a few hours, what do you get? Well, the next step of the quest, where you realized that you need to grind for a few more hours in a different profession. Nah, skip this one. Brighter Shores doesn't respect your time.
WHAT THE DEVELOPERS HAVE TO SAY: Why Early Access? “We want to let people start playing the game without having to wait even longer, but acknowledge that the game isn't finished yet. There are some very important features which need adding, before we consider the game to no longer be in 'early access'.” Came across this pile of ♥♥♥♥ in my hidden games after like 2 or more years. They had to make sure to paywall content to squeeze every last drop of the last few people who obviously need to seek mental help after continuing to play after this long. Should have just stuck to 9-5 jobs and not worry about making anything and wasting people's time.
The graphics is decent - I do not need first person. Pace is good, no "Fight against the clock". Riddles are nice.
Spent an hour again after not touching this for 2 years. There was nothing enjoyable about anything that I did. Apart from grinding for the sake of grinding I do not know why I am doing anything. Currently the first hour felt like a tech demo. It felt like the first half of a game to where it is a bunch of core mechanics, but that last bit to actually make it fun just wasn't there. I spent 20 minutes running around blindly to do the main quest (tutorial). Then spent another 40 minutes punching random stuff to try to get to the next part of the main quest. There was no challenge here it was click and then zone out for 30 seconds. The most "engaging" part of it was picking up items and figuring out what to equip. There MIGHT be something more engaging after some amount of grinding, but good game design dictates that you shouldn't make your players suffer through bad gameplay to get to the fun stuff. The first hour is your opportunity to hook new players, so you should be throwing your most entertaining gameplay at them not an overly long boring tutorial and grinds with no enjoyment in sight.
What an absolute waste of potential. What was Gower even thinking with this?
