Fantastic idea and lots of fun! The puzzle element combined with FPS makes for challenging levels and a constant need to improving strategy and efficiency. Also a good amount of competition with the leaderboards.
I feel like there is a good concept here but it's not quite there yet. I couldn't help shake the feeling that this feels very much still like a prototype. TLDR: Fun idea but speed is the issue. I want to go faster but can't due to slow movement and overly complicated line ups on shots. The Positives: - I really like the core concept of this game. The bounce mechanic I feel is unique and provides interesting encounters when dealing with enemies. It's a great feeling smacking your ball into an enemy after bouncing it off the wall behind it. - I also liked trying to best my high score and complete the levels as fast as possible. Love the idea of a monthly course everyone can compete in. I was determined when I saw it to get a high ranking. Think I got to 5th place in the end. - Funky music is A+ The Negatives: - Although I like the speed in which the game tries to encourage, I found myself frustrated as there was always something slowing me down. The default run speed I found to be far too slow, at first I felt like I was slogging through the levels and was convinced I was missing a sprint button. I later saw in one of the tool tips bunny hopping was a thing and is encouraged. While this does speed things up, it was far too easy to lose momentum on a failed jump. - The puzzles. Although I like the idea of solving puzzles in this game it was by far my least favourite part as it slowed the pace of the game completely down. When you first load into a new level, the first thing I did was speed around and kill all the enemies by dodging bullets and boucing my shots into them. After they were dealt with it's a slow "okay, where is the switch? Found it okay, now where is the perfect spot to stand and line up my shot. It's here cool, now lets try trial and error until I find the precise location to aim and hit the target". - I really wish the hit detection on my shots was just a little better. Too many times I found myself frustrated by shots just missing the switch. I found the solution but I just couldn't hit that perfect line up. Same thing happens when shooting enemy's. There's a few other issues I had but those are the main culprits. Bugs: - Pressing esc in the settings menu in game lets you run around and play while the menu is still up. -Pressing two directions at once doubles your speed. Not sure if this was intentional but once I found this out I spent the entire game running diagonally. - Not sure what caused this one but at one point I got to the green button at the end and the game played the success sound effect but for some reason didn't progress me. I was stuck in the level, only able to run around. I had to alt f4 to get out of it. Something I feel would really help speed up the game in general without sacrificing too much of the puzzle element would be some sort of visual guide that shows where you first bounce will go. It would save time trying to find that exact line up while still giving the player the opportunity to find the solution. Think those Snooker games that show you where your shot goes after you first hit it. Overall not bad just a bit too much dragging it down for me to recommend it.
Super fun game! The puzzles have the perfect amount of challenge. Music sounds amazing. Really interesting bounce mechanic. Really rewarding when you hit the tough angle shot and surprising when a loose bullet hits an enemy you weren't aiming for. Monthly leaderboard makes you want to get better and better.
Really enjoying this game so far! It makes you think about solving the puzzle, but at the same time trying to complete the course as fast as possible. Very rewarding when you can string together some good moves and get a really good time. I like the online mode with the monthly course. This allows you to do the same course over and over to compete for the best times against others. The "vs" mode is also fun if you have friends that you want to challenge. I think for the price this game is definitely worth the fun you will get out of it.
Game is Pognasty
BounceShot is a lot of fun. It has a great mix of first person shooter (indirect of course) with puzzles. There are quite a few levels and you can even challenge others as well. I've made it almost to the third series of levels, so I only have to figure out the best way to get two more levels done and then I'll unlock another slew of levels to play. You can really tell that a lot of time was made to set up the levels and they are both fun and interesting due to that time. I'm not going to lie and say that some of the levels aren't challenging. But as you progress through the game and finish a level that you couldn't before, you really feel a wave of satisfaction. I finally beat a boss I was struggling with and now I know how to do it so I can boost my time next time. I think the hardest part is not shooting the enemy directly and really doing it enough to get a good feel where your bounced shot will end up. Enjoy!
Wonderful game! A masterful blend of puzzle and fps elements. Any fan of Portal would be missing out to not give it a (bounce) shot. Can't beat the experience for the price.
The scientists need your help! For as little as the cost of a latte, you too could bounce shots. Off the walls, off the ceilings, off the floors, even off of your own weapon! Those pesky droids are no match for you, for your bouncing knows no bounds. Buy it now, for science! (and achievements, speed running, fun, bopping tunes, FPS-ing action, puzzles, and, well, I cannot think of anything else) See you at the finish line!!!
my description of this game is a fast paced version of portal with more bouncing highly recommend. also one of the best soundtracks in a game i have heard in a long time
So far the game is fun. The music is great! The levels and elements of the game are Excellent. Only Cons I've found so far are in the menus honestly. In the main menu I don't seem to get any feedback when I mouse over the options to select them. All in all the menus just lack a bit of juice. Other than that the game is seems to do just what it sets out to do. I enjoy the mechanics and though it isn't perfect the game is a great puzzle game with an emphasis on speedrunning elements which makes it quite enjoyable. RECOMMENDED
