[strike] PODEM ME CHAMAR DE LOUCA, MAS EU AMEI ESSE JOGO!!! ME DÁ UMA PUT4 SENSAÇÃO DE QUERER ANDAR POR AÍ SEM RUMO E SINTO UM PUT4 VAZIO. [/strike]
Feeding Rats To My (Dead) Family, a bizarre Indie Horror Game.
Not sure how I feel about this game... A bizarre game, which makes you think about those rats LOL. This is one of those games which feels less like a game and more like someone set out to make an interactable recreation of a fever dream they had once and have never been able to forget. Love it. Also nice to see a limbo/guilt storyline which isn't based on "I randomly murdered my family because ~mental illness~ lol". The protag being all "ffs I should have just hit the dang goat" was refreshingly simple and sympathetic.
More Plot, Less Play
You - the grief striken husband The rats- the memories that haunt you The big rats- the memories before the accident, the worse ones. The church - people who pretend they care, " it's what they would've wanted" Day 1 - lost, trapped in a maze of guilt and grief Day 2 - attempting to numb the pain, gas stations carry ciggerates and achohal after all. Day 3 - avoiding the memories that you've lost, sleeping in a place far away Day 4 - memory lane, your family, the car, the shovel. Day 5- confronting the memories, ethier burying them or living with them until you die. Home. - the source of the your memories, guilt and pain. The shovel and burial - let the memories rest in peace. The goat - the car. . . . Making me reload the Shotgun made me laugh so hard 😂😂😂😂

A severely gut wrenching sad tale about a kind father / husband desperately trying to feed his family. Refusing his beautiful home cooked meals, day after day, his family is truly ungrateful. The father's wife and his two teenage sons do not even acknowledge his existence. The give him the silent treatment, day after day. The father eventually drives off into the sunset away from them, seeking a newfound hopeful future. On his travels he meets a lonely sheep in the middle of the road, and engages conversation with the animal. In this conversation the father finally discovers true love, a friendly companion to talk to, and finds exactly what is needed to heal his brutally wounded heart. 7 / 13
I usually am pretty lenient on short, low budget horror games but the "Very Positive" scoring for this game puzzles me. It does look nice and has a decent style, but that's it. It's only 20 minutes, and while I don't mind the length (I've come to enjoy bite sized games you can knock out in one sitting), there is very little substance to it. Anything I say will feel like a spoiler! Anyways, this is what the game consists of:
You and your family get into a car crash and then every day you wake up in the morning, check your phone for messages, walk past your wife and two kids who are sitting dead, and go out to hunt 3 rats to feed them. You can pick up and drop random objects in the house but it didn't seem like there's anything to do other than that. You leave the house and each time it puts you in a different place where you have a shotgun, need to pick up shells, and shoot 3 rats to unlock a door that takes you back to your house at night. First day it's a maze, then a shop with a warehouse, some kind of art gallery, and a motel. The maze and art gallery have next to nothing going for it visually, and even though the other two "levels" are much more 'designed,' there's still nothing to do or see. Shoot three rats that are scurrying about and leave. If you wait a little too long, a giant JPEG of a rat comes after you. When you return home it's the night and you put the rats you caught on plates for your dead family to eat. On the last day, instead of hunting for rats, you get in your car and drive until you swerve to avoid a sheep or something and crash into a tree. The end.
Apparently there is a second ending if you grab some objects in each level (I had no clue there was anything you can collect while playing this) so you can
bury your dead family
but I don't care much to see it. There's also some kind of commentary on churches and Christianity, but it's absolutely nothing deep. This guy's got some crosses hung up above his bed, a Bible on the nightstand, the "art gallery" has religious art in, and his church is calling him for donations
even though they know his family died
? Okay? I don't tend to look too much at store pages for these kind of games since they're cheap and I like going in fresh. The half-decent screenshots and "Very Positive" were doing the heavy lifting in my choice to buy this, so I guess it's on me. Watching the trailer after I just finished the game, I don't think I would've bothered with this at all. I paid $0.60 and still feel like it should've been free.
ungrateful family doesn't realize all that i provide for them
Solid grief story that gains a lot from the strong cinematic implementation and musical accompaniment - There's a lot to uncover here in terms of metaphor, whether it's about 5 stages of grief or survivor's guilt, what the end means, etc
Tear Factory is a little horror game where your poor very hungry and very communicative family need you to go and hunt rats and nothing is strange whatsoever. The gameplay loop here is simple. Your family is hungry and demanding so you must go out into the world and shoot rats and bring them home, each day there are different environments to hunt for rats. Look out for the REALLY big ones. You then bring the rats home and you can have a delicious meal! Hooray! Nothing else is wrong. NOTHING! The game has a really unusual look and feel giving a disturbing otherworldly live throughout but this is clearly just an aesthetic choice because absolutely nothing is wrong. For the price this is worth playing for a short horror experience. Interested in seeing what else Daddysucc (best dev name). Can come up with in the future.
Daddysucc more like Daddysucc my balls.
