7/10 Good and beautiful Sokoban with a robot. What is it: A Sokoban game with a few extra mechanics. You play as a robot, pushing containers onto designated spots, with the classic rule: only push one container at a time. Other mechanics include electric barriers that can be disabled by keeping a button pushed, "dead" bots that act as simple blocks that can be useful or hindering, but don't need to be placed on designated spots, patrolling bots that kill you if you touch them, conveyor belts that move everything in one direction, and cranes that automatically move one thing from one spot to another. The game is short, but the levels are all interesting and unique. The patrolling bots add a bit of precision/timing aspect, which one might like or dislike. I particularly enjoyed the cranes and conveyors. Of note are the graphics, in this kind of game I don't really watch out for how beautiful it is, but this one actually is very pleasant, it feels quite immersive. How hard is it: Easy to moderate. A few levels I found harder to finish mostly because of their size, not so much for their toughness. How long is it: 37 levels, split in 3 zones, for about 1.5-3 hours of playtime. Levels are unlocked one by one, no skipping allowed. Level design: Good. Interesting mechanics, varied levels, non-trivial solutions, good difficulty progression, Quality: Good. Good level design, good mechanics, pleasant graphics, cloud saving, decent achievements, good settings, decent controls (but not configurable), almost fast enough running speed, although running is disabled by default and instead only one move at a time is triggered by a keypress, unlimited undo, although not after a failure or a reset, progress reset. Controls aren't cached, and movement isn't fast enough for me, so it breaks my flow. A few issues with a non-wide screen size, and a few other bugs that will hopefully be fixed soon. Worth the price: A bit too expensive for the playtime, but the quality deserves a little boost. Definitely worthy on a small discount. Most positive aspect for me: Good mechanics. Most negative aspect for me: Uncached movement and running requires another keypress. What would make it better: More levels! Faster movement and input caching. Add a setting for keeping running always active, or change the running toggle to an actual toggle, push it once to switch if running is enabled or disabled. Control remapping. Undo after a failure and through restarts. [strike]Add cloud saving[/strike]. Add support for skipping levels. Add multiple profiles. Add a setting to disable extra animations, especially the steam that sometimes occludes the level too much. It’s pretty impressive for a bot to have a thought; nonetheless, you have one, and you notice something is wrong with your workplace, the asteroid station you are assigned to. Yesterday, you were bot-botting each time you saw another bot passing by, a bit like the gondolier in Venice who announces they are coming through with a big HOY HOY. But today, all the bots have vanished. Maybe it’s the right time to escape the station, but for that, you must reach the launching platform on the other side of the asteroid and take off with the giant orange rocket! Then, no more bot-botting! Little bot, it is your last bot patrol. Bot Patrol is a casual Sobokan puzzle game developed and self-published by a.mighty.dish on the Steam platform on the 28th of March 2024. The game consists of 36 levels divided into three stages and environmental themes: the station, the rock and the jungle. The goal is to place all the cargo containers into their assigned spots on the floor to beat the level. And, of course, you can only move forward up, down, left and right to push the containers to their spots. If you place a container into corners or a space formed as a U, you'll be stuffed. Thankfully, the developer has included a rewind moves option to track all the moves back to your first one, which is good. However, on some significantly larger levels, it might take a while to do so. But again, you might find where you went wrong. I like the difficulty progression in Bot Patrol with the introduction of electric fields, which you need to turn off or on depending on how the level is set. For example, you might need to place a container on the square with the circle icon to turn off the field so you can access that specific area or place your bot on the circle to activate the field to destroy the guard bot when it passes through. The cracks in the floor create a hole after moving over them, restricting passage from there onwards. With or without activation switches, the conveyor belt will make you think harder. The mechanical arms can take your bot from one area to another, adding difficulty to the level. But my favourite levels were with the Destroy Bots, when you have to clean the area or create a path with them to move your containers to their places. I was there for quite a while, trying to make that path. The laser obstacles were interesting, but unfortunately, there were only a couple of levels with the laser obstacles. I was slightly disappointed after the level where you had to clean the bots in the room before moving the containers to their respective places. From the start to that particular level, the difficulty progression was excellent, but from then on, it stagnated for several levels and possibly regressed. With the utmost respect for the developer, if you want to create a bit of a reprieve for a few levels, as I felt it, it's okay, but at least add more levels; 50 or so would have been better. Having said that, all the levels are well-designed and more challenging to solve from the jungle stage. It will take you around four to five hours to complete. The graphics are good, and I enjoyed the techno-style music. Unfortunately, it is only one track on a loop. The controls are excellent and fast, especially when using a gamepad. The game runs well, and I didn’t experience any crashes whatsoever. The only bug I can see so far is that I didn't receive the freedom achievement, which is the last one. Positives: ~~~~~~~ + Nice graphics and music + Game runs well + Good level design and the difficulty progression is mostly on par + Fast controls + 36 levels to complete + Achievements Negatives: ~~~~~~~~ - Needs more levels - No trading cards as yet Bot Patrol provides good difficulty progression and variation within levels. However, it needs more levels to satisfy my appetite. 6/10 Key provided by the developer/publisher for review purposes. Any opinions expressed are entirely my own! If you're into puzzle games, this is the one for you. I love the indie hand-drawn style. The music, graphics and story are well thought through. This game is worth a try!
I love puzzle & indie games and this really hit the spot. The graphics, animations everything about this cute dare I say a bit whimsical puzzle game was enjoyable. I sat down for the evening to stream my play through which took just over 3 hours and had some laughs along the way along with some frustrations in some later levels where I just couldn't grasp the timing that I needed. At one point it looked as if we were going to make it only to have to back track and ultimately got zapped in the process.
Un juego que en principio parece muy sencillo pero divierte un montón. Si te gustan los puzzles y pensar este es tu juego. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQd5T-oGeZo
I recently finished playing this delightful little puzzle game, and I have to say, it was a fantastic experience! The story was small but really cute, with a few surprisingly depressing moments that added depth. It didn't take up too much of my time, which was perfect for my busy schedule. The levels were challenging enough to make me think, but not so hard that they became frustrating. Overall, it was a great way to spend a few hours, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a short but satisfying game.
Very nice game. Set the mind thinking. Was stuck at level 13 initially. Didn't realize that those moving bots can be destroyed. Cleared that level by chance. Lucky me. The rest of the levels are equally interesting and challenging too. Strongly recommended! Cheers.
Fun puzzle game in which you play a cute little robot pushing canisters into place to progress through the world. Challenging at times, but it has good introduction levels for new mechanics so I never got stuck. If you like puzzle games, give it a go!
Very nice variety of puzzles. Did not get boring once! Roboarms ftw
