Borderlight
A game which reminds me of the failure of Fallout 76, while not a complete failure, it's certainly not everything it could've been. As I've said before, the potential in both Borderlight and Fallout 76 is so abundant that you can almost smell it seeping out of your screen, and that's what makes both these games so infuriating. Pros: - The game functions as a game. - Pretty good and sensible music - Game models fit in their environment - Actually strives to achieve a sense of accomplishment and progression. - Could've been a clicker game but didn't fall down that cheap route. - Each buildable object has a unique feature which gives the player different ways to achieve their goal, not by much, but it's something. Cons: - The UI is terrible, while maybe the cyan on poop brown is easier for some people to see, the fact that some of the font is so tiny it blends into it is completely unarguable. - While I know what my gain per day is, which is all well and good, I don't know the actual count of my resources. - I don't know how many settlers I have. - Fireball = spammy, easy fix with keeping the collision detection reset but also adding an "if" whatever and putting it on a timer. - In my opinion, the music for the bad guys chimes in a little too late. I already had swords up my butt before the music appeared. Honestly, this game grinds my gears. It looks like a great little poopy indie game you can play for a decent bit and feel fulfilled at the end result. Alas, underneath the cute little art and the actual game working, it also doesn't. You find that out on your first attempt to upgrade your tower, it says you need "100 stone" to upgrade it and you look to the side to see how much you need and find yourself "Earning 1 stone per day", so you'll say "Okay, it's not here then." If you're like me then you'll naturally press 3 keys, E, I, then Tab, or whatever way round you do. Once you press tab you're encountered with the horrible poop brown and cyan font, hardly able to read the small ones. There is no inventory, or number to say how much you have, only how much you could/would have. Meanwhile the game is still playing in the background as you've hit this and assumed it was paused (if you didn't keep an eye on the bottom) suddenly the screen gets a little darker and you notice the games still playing in the background, there's a music change and you're surrounded by green men with swords, trying to chop up your buttocks. There is nothing really else wrong with this game, it's free so I encourage you to download it and play it if you haven't already. Make a review expressing your thoughts as well. It's got flowers, it's got achievements, I wouldn't recommend despite it being free, but if you can get over that main thing I mentioned, then you can probably cope just fine.
