Border Bots VR

This is honestly just such a cute and fun game. I picked it up on a whim, but it's hilarious. I had a lot of fun on the first run so far. I am definitely on board with this. Cant wait to play more of it. It's basicly VR Paper's Please that is full of robots. They definitely got me a few times. 10/10. This would be a streamer's dream game to play.

I got this game in hopes of getting a good VR version of papers please, but it was not what I hoped for. They decided to put large part of "story" and tutorial at the start and the pacing is not great. The gameplay of being a inspector is quite good, but the characters take forever to take at you. There is very awkward pauses between dialogue lines and it is unskippable to my knowledge. I can see the potential and what they are going for, but it just executed half decently making it not worth it.

I fully expected it to be very hand holdy and more of like a simplified cutsy vr experience that mostly focused on quirky robots, But instead I got a challenging and intense border inspection game that rivals any flatscreen one that is further enhanced by it being in VR *AND* a focus on Quirky robots! The fact that this is the only Papers Please/Border inspection game in VR (that I could find) is honestly a crime, Yet being the only one doesn't stop it from being the best one.

I went into this game with some prejudices, and I will admit, I did wish the Mentor would shut up in the first level. But, as time goes on and you get into the story, it's really fun. This is the first game that made me play for 20 hours straight. I *do* wish there was an endless mode, maybe even a configurable one. But as it is, I still highly recommend it!

Personally, coming back to this game, I can see why a lot of people aren't a big fan of it. It's lengthy dialog, the lack of long term gameplay or replayability, but it still does a great job at a lot of other things that I do enjoy. Also, just throwing it out at the start, I am perfectly aware of the fact that the games visuals are pretty choppy and mobile game esc, almost looking like some things are made from AI. I don't really find it too much of a problem, I think it doesn't matter too much if it can bring good gameplay, and after looking out for it when I replayed the game, I did not see any type of AI art or designs myself. Speaking of gameplay, I find it pretty entertaining if you can try to ignore the long dialog, I was pretty into the story as well so I can't really say much about it being annoying or boring. It feels a lot like a VR Papers Please which you'd hear a lot from this, and it's pretty simple but does a great job at still making it more challenging over time. I think if you're getting somebody into VR or you are yourself, this would be a great game to start after something like Job Simulator because you do tend to move about a bit, but it's mostly just sitting in a booth grabbing and figuring out different things. It isn't the best, but still a pretty enjoyable time. Would Recommend.
