If you have nostalgia for the good old days of beautifully crafted black and white games, you will love this game.
Amazing graphics, along with some great platforming while listening to a soundtrack that's crazy good.
Boots Versus Plants is a lighthearted indie platformer that blends action, exploration, and puzzle-solving into a surprisingly entertaining adventure. Developed by Dnovel and published by My Way Games, the game presents a whimsical conflict between a military organization and a growing threat of mutated plant life. Players assume the role of Colonel Daisy, an agent dispatched to investigate strange botanical mutations that have transformed ordinary plants into dangerous adversaries. While the premise initially appears humorous and simple, the game gradually introduces a mystery involving a virus that has altered the natural world, giving the journey a bit more depth than expected. The gameplay focuses heavily on traditional side-scrolling platforming. Players navigate a variety of stages filled with hazards, moving mechanisms, environmental puzzles, and hostile plant creatures. Rather than emphasizing complex combat systems, the game encourages careful movement and observation. Traps are often placed in ways that require precise timing, while certain areas challenge players to think about how to activate switches or bypass obstacles. This design creates a satisfying balance between action and problem-solving, ensuring that progression feels varied instead of becoming a nonstop shooting gallery. Combat remains straightforward throughout the adventure. Colonel Daisy is equipped to deal with the mutated vegetation, and the inclusion of unlimited ammunition keeps the action accessible and fast-paced. The simplicity of the combat system allows players to focus more on navigation and exploration, which are clearly the core pillars of the experience. Although veterans of the genre may find the battles somewhat basic, the enemy encounters serve their purpose by adding tension to each level and breaking up the platforming sections. One of the game's more appealing qualities is its colorful presentation. The environments are bright and cartoonish, filled with exaggerated plant monsters and playful visual designs. The art style does not strive for realism, instead embracing a cheerful aesthetic that suits the game's humorous tone. Various references and comedic moments are scattered throughout the adventure, helping to establish a distinct personality. These touches make the game feel less like a generic indie platformer and more like a project created with enthusiasm and creativity. The story itself remains relatively simple but effective. As players advance through the campaign, they learn that the mutant plants are not simply evil creatures but victims of an unusual infection. This revelation adds a layer of sympathy to the conflict and gives Colonel Daisy's mission a greater purpose. While narrative depth is not the game's primary focus, the plot provides enough context to keep players interested in uncovering the source of the outbreak and restoring order to the affected regions. Where Boots Versus Plants struggles somewhat is in its limited scope. The mechanics remain consistent from beginning to end, and players looking for extensive character progression, advanced combat systems, or major gameplay innovations may find the experience somewhat modest. Enemy variety and challenge levels can occasionally feel repetitive, particularly during longer play sessions. However, these shortcomings are largely understandable given the game's indie origins and relatively small scale. Despite these limitations, the game succeeds in delivering an enjoyable and approachable adventure. Its combination of platforming challenges, environmental puzzles, humorous storytelling, and colorful visuals creates a charming experience that is easy to pick up and play. The game never tries to be larger than it is, instead focusing on providing a compact and entertaining journey filled with quirky ideas and enjoyable level design. For players who appreciate classic platformers with light action elements and a sense of humor, Boots Versus Plants offers a pleasant experience that rewards exploration and careful movement. It may not redefine the genre, but its creative premise, accessible gameplay, and cheerful presentation make it a worthwhile title for fans of smaller independent games. Rating: 6/10

Spiel ist Gut, aber die Steuerung ist das aller letzte.
baaaa
There's a certain unexplainable delight from controlling hero. Maybe it's the animations. Maybe it's the responsiveness. Maybe it's the art. Maybe it's the music.
