About
In the early 21st century, as the environment on earth continues to deteriorate and untainted food sources become extremely difficult to find, a global famine has turned long-held civilizations upside down. The governments have since then been in charge of the acquisition and distribution of food for their people, with most borders closed for security reasons.
Now the year is 2036. In the city of Iden, every piece of food entering resident areas must pass a required set of tests, executed by skilled government workers. You, as one of the newly-recruited food inspectors, will carry out your duty 24/7 alone in a booth. Even though it is considered one of the most desired occupations in Iden, what you want from it is a bit different — an escape from this blockaded city.
Challenge a series of food inspection missions that will put your skills and strategies to the test.
Live a solitary life in a booth and spend hard-earned wages on post-cultural gems or lottery tickets.
Enjoy an atmospheric and characteristic soundtrack that is exclusive to high class Iden citizens.
Meet with a dozen of dull or interesting people who may be a help, a threat, or something else to you.
Experience an immersive, carefully crafted branching story where you get to choose, sometimes.

Worth trying if you're keen enough to check out the reviews. Similar to papers please but more focused on story. Play on the "hardest" difficulty if you can, it's how the game was intended and feels pretty normal in actual difficulty.
the
trial at the end
is just so unnecessarily long and boring like i was literally thinking please just
put me in jail already and end my misery
gameplay and story in general aren't bad but if you do one slightest thing wrong the game punishes you harsh. maybe that's the whole point, but it just got me more frustrated than anything.
❗ For the English version, please scroll down. 10 ___ I dropped Booth after exactly two hours, only relaunching it later to idle in the background for trading cards. Two hours is usually that sweet spot where the tutorial is over, the mechanics click, and you expect the game to really pick up the pace. Instead, reality hit me: it’s not going to get any better. The routine, which is supposed to be immersive, just becomes exhausting. It’s impossible to ignore how much Booth tries to be Papers, Please, but that comparison ends up being its downfall. In Lucas Pope’s game, the monotonous actions masked deep moral dilemmas. You weren't just checking for discrepancies; you were deciding the fates of living people. Mistakes felt heavy because there was a face, a history, and a potential tragedy behind every decision. Here, I found myself roleplaying a glorified quality control inspector sorting food boxes. There is no intellectual challenge and absolutely no emotional investment. Noodles and tin cans don’t care if you approve them or incinerate them. All the drama is stripped away, leaving only a mechanical algorithm: check weight, check color, press button. It’s not detective work; it’s a conveyor belt simulator that gets boring very quickly. The dystopian narrative — presumably the whole point of the game — is drip-fed far too slowly. You have to slog through a disproportionate amount of dull sorting just to get a crumb of story. After two hours, the game failed to give me a single good reason to tolerate the grind. Even audiovisually, it doesn't measure up to its legendary predecessor. It lacks that heavy, tactile satisfaction in its interactions. The color palette is dull — everything is a wash of indistinct greys and greens. I guess you could try Booth if you are desperately nostalgic for Papers, Please. Maybe the plot and mechanics ramp up later on, but I have zero desire to stick around and find out. It functions, it runs on a potato, and it’s playable if you have absolutely nothing better to do. 5/10
好玩,就是有点上班_(:з」∠)_
+ top notch dystopian atmosphere with minimal pixel art + captivating story with mesmerizing characters + great sfx and even greater music (niche indie vibe) + cute girls cute girls cute girls! - daily tasks can sometimes be annoying (but after that you get to see cute girls) highly recommended for those who enjoy narrative games and don't mind some mouse action
