Try again!

Ughh!
Boon Boon is one of literally thousands of 2D retro pixel platformers infesting Steam. This isn't one of the "good" ones, either. It's a simple vertical scrolling puzzle as you must climb to the top of each level while avoiding baddies and obstacles, collect the lollypops and run into your girlfriend to finish the level. The implementation here is garbage tier. The game only displays in 4:3, so presumably they developed this in a cave with a 1990's PC and a 4:3 CRT monitor. They chose to use obsolete retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. Resolution and controls are locked. These flaws push this game far below minimum acceptable standards for PC.
A Masterpiece in game-making. If you have not played this game, well... you better play it before you pass on, as it is the peak at which gaming will never rise to again. The controls are on point, fine-tuned to perfection. The subtle story will have you in tears once finished. And best of all, the characters. The main protagonist, Boon Boon, is a lovable goofball who will quickly rise to be amongst your favourite characters of all time. I would most definitely recommend this game to every single person on Earth.
This is one of if not the best game I have ever played, it is a must play, the story ark is incredible, character development is so good it is unheard of. The emotional climax at the end is unexpected but brilliant. Level design is one of the best I have ever seen. The characters are well developed and have many strengths and weaknesses perfectly balanced. I would recommend this game to everything and everyone. A genius game, a hidden gem if you will. I would recommend, must buy.

Boon Boon is a charming retro-inspired platformer that embraces the simplicity and energy of classic arcade gaming while wrapping everything around an unexpectedly wholesome romantic adventure. Developed and published by Anamik Majumdar, the game feels like a direct tribute to the side-scrolling platformers that defined earlier eras of gaming, where colorful visuals, precise jumps, straightforward objectives, and increasing difficulty formed the heart of the experience. Instead of trying to modernize the genre with cinematic storytelling or highly complicated mechanics, Boon Boon focuses on delivering a pure arcade-style adventure driven by nostalgia, cheerful presentation, and classic gameplay structure. What makes the game particularly memorable is how sincerely it commits to its lighthearted concept. Beneath the pixel-art visuals and simple platforming lies a surprisingly endearing adventure about love, determination, and the willingness to overcome impossible obstacles for someone special. The story centers around Boon Boon, a lovable protagonist who falls deeply in love with a girl named Luna. Unlike many platform heroes motivated by revenge or world-saving quests, Boon Boon’s mission is refreshingly personal and innocent. After learning that Luna adores candies, he decides to collect as many sweets as possible to win her affection. Unfortunately, the candy-filled areas are guarded by monsters, deadly traps, and dangerous obstacles standing in his way. This transforms what should have been a simple romantic gesture into a full-scale platforming journey across hazardous stages packed with enemies and environmental dangers. The narrative remains intentionally straightforward, but its sincerity gives the game a distinct emotional charm. Rather than relying on dramatic storytelling, the game uses a simple romantic premise to create a cheerful atmosphere that remains consistently enjoyable throughout the adventure. One of the game’s most appealing features is its visual presentation. Boon Boon fully embraces retro pixel-art aesthetics, using bright colors, cartoonish enemies, and vibrant environments to create an atmosphere that feels nostalgic from the moment the game begins. The levels are filled with colorful backgrounds, candy-themed collectibles, dangerous machinery, strange creatures, and exaggerated arcade-style hazards that constantly reinforce the game’s playful identity. Snowy stages, cave systems, mechanical traps, and enemy hideouts all appear throughout the campaign, giving the environments enough visual variety to prevent the adventure from becoming stale. While the graphics are relatively simple by modern standards, the consistent art direction helps the game maintain a strong personality. Every stage feels handcrafted with affection for classic platform games, and that enthusiasm is visible in the bright sprite work and lively environmental design. Gameplay revolves around classic side-scrolling platform mechanics focused heavily on jumping precision, enemy avoidance, collectible gathering, and arcade survival. Players guide Boon Boon through dangerous stages while collecting candies and avoiding traps designed to stop his progress. The controls are simple and accessible, making it easy for players to immediately understand the game’s movement and platforming systems. Jumping across hazards, timing movements carefully, and avoiding enemy attacks form the core gameplay loop, and the game successfully captures the old-school arcade feeling where mastering the mechanics through repetition is a major part of the experience. What initially feels like a straightforward platformer gradually becomes far more challenging as the game progresses. Early stages are relatively forgiving and help players learn the controls, but later levels introduce increasingly complex combinations of enemies, traps, and platforming hazards. Giant choppers, acid pits, moving obstacles, narrow jumps, and enemy ambushes frequently appear together, forcing players to remain constantly alert. The difficulty progression strongly resembles classic arcade platformers where players are expected to improve through practice and memorization rather than relying on upgrades or forgiving checkpoint systems. This design philosophy gives the game a nostalgic sense of challenge that retro gaming fans will likely appreciate. The level design itself demonstrates more creativity than might initially be expected from a smaller indie project. Across ten stages, players encounter a wide variety of environmental layouts and hazard combinations that help maintain pacing throughout the adventure. Some sections emphasize careful timing and precision jumping, while others focus more heavily on surviving waves of enemies or navigating dangerous environmental traps. Hidden items and extra lives encourage exploration, rewarding players willing to take risks and search beyond the most obvious routes. The increasing complexity of stage layouts ensures that the game constantly introduces new challenges without abandoning the simple gameplay foundation that defines the experience. Enemy variety also contributes positively to the game’s pacing. Players encounter flying creatures, rolling monsters, bat-like enemies, and aggressive hazards positioned throughout the stages to disrupt movement and force quick reactions. While enemy AI remains fairly simple overall, the placement of enemies alongside environmental hazards creates moments of genuine tension, especially during later levels where a single mistake can result in failure. Certain sections demand near-constant movement and precise timing to avoid enemy attacks while navigating dangerous terrain simultaneously. These moments reinforce the arcade-inspired design philosophy where reflexes and memorization become essential for survival. One of the most charming aspects of Boon Boon is how effectively it maintains its cheerful atmosphere despite the increasing difficulty. The game never becomes overly dark or cynical. Even during more frustrating platforming sections, the colorful visuals, playful enemy designs, and candy-collecting premise keep the experience feeling lighthearted and fun. Luna’s role as the emotional motivation behind the adventure gives the gameplay a wholesome quality that separates it from many retro-inspired platformers focused solely on combat or survival. The game’s sincerity is one of its strongest qualities because it feels genuinely invested in its own romantic and playful identity. The soundtrack complements the game’s retro arcade atmosphere extremely well. Upbeat melodies, energetic background music, and cheerful sound effects help maintain momentum during difficult platforming sequences and enemy encounters. The music captures the spirit of older arcade games perfectly, constantly reinforcing the sense that Boon Boon is designed as a nostalgic throwback rather than a modern cinematic platformer. Sound effects for item pickups, enemy interactions, and environmental hazards all follow the exaggerated style common in retro gaming, helping every action feel impactful despite the game’s relatively simple presentation. For players who enjoy retro-inspired platformers, colorful arcade adventures, and indie games built around classic gameplay principles, Boon Boon offers a fun and nostalgic experience filled with charming visuals, challenging stages, and sincere personality. Its technical limitations, repetitive enemy behavior, and lack of polish prevent it from reaching the highest level of indie platformers, but the passion and enthusiasm behind the project still make it memorable. The game ultimately succeeds as a heartfelt tribute to classic side-scrolling arcade games while adding enough romantic charm and playful creativity to stand apart from many other retro-inspired indie releases. fajna gierka tylko czasami denerwuje
Absolute cinema, it changed my life
