How far can curiosity and dreams take us? Which wonderful situations can we discover once we get carried away by the adventure? Even though it has been 150 years since its publication, the acclaimed novel by Lewis Carroll still remains as one of the greatest artistic works in the world.

Book Series - Alice in Wonderland (português mais abaixo) I know it's no longer available, but anyway, I still want to analyze it. Consider that I'm analyzing Lewis Carroll's original story. I had my first encounter with Alice in my childhood, but rereading it as an adult is one of the most incredible things a book has ever brought me. It's magical to realize that within the same book, with the same words, there are two different stories, the second of which can only be perceived when one is old enough to understand the far fetched words and concepts that Lewis Carroll intentionally included in his book to show us the nuances that the same situation can have when seen through different eyes, as if wanting to show us that there is something hidden between the paths we tread in life, but forgetting to tell us whether it is a good or a bad surprise (or is it intentional once again? hmm). What I can say about Alice is that curiosity reigns in her desires and thoughts, flowing with a strange naturalness among the impossible creatures she encounters and the potions, cakes, drinks, and other trivial happenstances. Except for the rabbit, that is irresistibly neurotic and cute creature that will take you down the abyss without asking your name, probably more than once, because in Wonderland, there is no reason to avoid this almost lyrical drunkenness while rabbits worry about time, stopping to ask your name is out of the question. In this fantastic nightmare of chocolate, Alice, the crazily curious, ventures wherever necessary. The natural laws of life such as "don't go there! don't drink that! don't eat this!" have no value in that world. After all, what are rules that limit you for? The universe is full and colorful, and gravity is quite weak. Let the one who has never fallen cast the first rabbit. Something like that. Now let's get serious. The figures we paint in the diversity of our human experiments are marvelous scenes from the wandering natural world that emanates from our innocent chest in highly blooming psychic springs, with an uncontrollable desire to access the garden where the light of our impulse hides while seeking in it's utopian dreams of proper manners far from the possibility of realization. See? Being serious is just boring. So let's go back to... well... I want to tell you a thing. Don't be afraid of disappearing, it's something very, very, very difficult to happen. It would take something between 3 seconds and 3 years, except for days ending in 14, not much happens on those days. Reading Alice again as an adult (HAHA) reminded me of the piano songs I used to hear during the melancholic crises that me, I mean, Alice couldn't avoid, quite frequent, as being lost in a world of wonders is more terrible than not being. Alice is perhaps the greatest and best box of novelties one can have because even when they end, there is still more. But I think I got lost, let me try again. Well then. What I learned from rereading Alice is that you can't trust words too much. They seem quiet, but that's only while you're looking at them, like the boys in fourth grade who never cease their experiments of terror. Lewis Carroll knew this well, and there seems to be an authentic desire in him to make us see these nuances with a good dose of expectations that last the time of a good nap. It moves from the marvelous to the terror in a way that makes you feel cherished, even if you are human. But I warn you, Alice can unleash uncontrollable metamorphoses in your deepest knowing, resulting in great inspirations. Please, be careful! That's it. A masterpiece that should be mandatory for everyone, both the living and the dead. But now I need to eat something urgently. See you!
Enjoyment: 3/10
Alice in Wonderland is a beloved classic but this kinetic novel adaptation feels very lacking in comparison. The text wasn't properly adapted for the visual novel format and I kept running into formatting and pronoun errors, which made it a chore to read for a novel this long. There's no branching choices either and the overall experience lacks the polish needed to elevate the original story. The developer added some pretty CGs at least but that's about the only thing it has going for it. The interface is basic and the reading experience is just not smooth enough to justify going through the story this way. The whimsical Wonderland atmosphere is technically there but it all falls flat in practice. It doesn't bring any original ideas or voice acting to the table so I don't really see a reason to pick this up when you could just get the physical book or a good audiobook instead. Sorry to say but I simply can't recommend this. Welp, there's actually no point now in reviewing this game as it's no more available for purchase. But maybe some of you snatched it on recent sale while it was still there xD It's a neutral review. But anyway I think I'll have to choose a thumb down because https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2825632222 – I guess it's personal but I disliked art here. And visual part in VNs IS important to me. I didn't find art suitable for the story. --All the CGs are already in the gallery, even at the very start of the game, in black-and-white form but it's spoilerish enough. There was no fun in finding them in the story. --The story is 'Alice in Wonderland' as the title tells us, no adaptations, no changes. Perhaps it'd be fun if it were not a kinetic story but with some choices. Even not very meaningful, one playthrough could be the original story xD others could be some variations like to ignore the rabbit, for example, at the very start of the story XD or remain forever at the tea party with the Hatter XD It could be so much fun! To enjoy the familiar story in a different way instead. It kinda surprised me, as I've read the book (ordinary paper book) before and I lloved it. But now... maybe unpleasant, jarring art was to blame, or maybe I'm a dif person now but Alice was surprisingly annoying xD and she seemed stupid and not cute and adorable as I found her last time. I'm astonished, as I had only positive expectations but... --Inconvenient settings which kept disappearing :(( Usually they reappeared when the text was on the black background. So, every time when I was already tired of the story and wanted to quit I couldn't save it! That was annoying! It still didn't feel like a complete waste of time because +Despite all annoyance it still felt nice to refresh the original story. +Achievements are easy to get and the story counts as one more perfect game in steam collection. Nowadays when so many VNs I play have 'limited features' it's really a reason enough to read this story. +Some backgrounds were pretty, I can't deny that. +There're lots of languages available. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2823209523 So, if you still by any chance have this game in your library, you may give it a try but I'd recommend to read a paper book 'Alice in Wonderland' by Lewis Carrol.
Overview:
'Book Series - Alice in Wonderland' is visual novel that's a literal take on the famous story Alice in Wonderland with an anime rendition. I have to reiterate that this is strictly a visual novel, there are no choices to be made, no multiple endings or anything the player can do outside of reading the story. Keep in mind that the title literally says "Book Series" which suggests that this game is in fact not a game and just an e-book. The story itself is as anyone guessed, about Alice in Wonderland, the actually text ripped straight from the original story. There's no rewording or paraphrasing, it's quite literally the same story everyone has read before but just with anime girls as a backdrop. Essentially that means in terms of effort and writing, there is none. If you've read the story before, there's really point getting this novel unless you're in it for the visuals because you'll be reading the exact same text from the original. The text itself is in a very awkward style as the time period the actual story takes place is worded based on that era. For people who haven't already read the book or know the story, I can guarantee you'll be very confused reading the text. It's a very old-timey style and even for me, reading it seriously gave me a headache. There isn't much going for this novel as there is nothing unique aside from the visuals, but even these take away a lot from the actual story and I'll get into that later.
Gameplay:
As already mentioned, this is an e-book, not a game so there really isn't anything to "play" here. Just reading.
Controls:
For a visual novel, the only thing you can do is progress the text by either left clicking or pressing the spacebar. A trivial gripe I have with this novel in particular, is that fast forwarding the text doesn't automatically skip the dialogue animation, it just speeds it up. There's also no auto scroll mode which automatically progresses text for the reader which means everything must be done manually. Not a serious issue but is something a lot of visual novels have and a lot of readers like. Too bad this novel doesn't have such a feature.
Graphics:
I won't lie, I honestly believe the developers portrayed this story with anime girls just to attempt to manipulate people into buying what could have been a unique story. There is no continuity whatsoever between the characters in the novel and what the text actually represents. Most of the characters are represented as anime girls despite some of them actually being male. The pronouns are also kept the same as the original story so characters that are now female but are supposed to be male, are still referred to as male. This can be extremely confusing because as you're reading, you'll see only girls on screen but the text refers to one or some of them as male. It just doesn't make sense and supports the idea that the people behind this visual novel just wanted to throw in as many skimpy anime girls as they could even if it completely destroyed the balance of the story just so they can try and entice the weaker man. Even then, the visuals although not bad, aren't very good either. The proportions for all the characters' faces are rather inconsistent and honestly feels like something isn't right with them. Sometimes their eyes are too small, their mouths are too big or their faces are off centered altogether. It just looks weird, awkward and makes it a bit hard to appreciate the artwork. That being said, there is a gallery but there's no way to access all the pictures aside from the first one which is the artwork for the title screen. Even after completing the story, all the other artwork are still locked. Bummer but not really.
Audio:
There's only music that plays throughout the novel but there are some sound cues that play during key points in the story. The sound effects are fine enough and add what little immersion the novel can even muster up but the music is another story. Although it does sound quite nice, there are times when the music just doesn't fit the mood and is extremely loud. Once again, there's no volume meter. Seriously, I cannot comprehend how many games overlook such a simple yet crucial feature for a novel/game. The music also tends to repeat a lot and switch between tracks a little too much making listening to the music a bit hard.
Conclusion/TL;DR:
'Book Series - Alice in Wonderland' is a visual novel with awkwardly drawn anime girls depicting the characters in the famous story 'Alice in Wonderland' along with the exact same text the original story has. The take on anime girls for a story like this is nonsensical (most of the characters are animals) and anime girls also replace male characters which suggests this novel is literally here just for the lewder audience that just wants to see skimpy anime girls rather than actually reading the story which is supposed to be the whole point of this title. Although I'm sure effort was put into the visuals, the overall story itself can be rather hard to read for new readers who don't know about older writing styles. You can literally read this exact story word for word for free online, so you'd essentially just be paying $5.49 CAD for subpar artwork which isn't worth the listed price tag.

Morlan's shorts:

This isn't an adventure. No action to be taken, no choices.. This is just reading the book and a few anime girls and related pictures to show behind the text. It gets quite tiring because the text is slo-w-l-y appearing and you can only make it a bit faster, not FFW or skip. Transitions are also slow. You may as well just read the real book, it'll be faster. Only if you really want to read Alice in Wonderland with an oversexualised anime setting.. Otherwise don't bother. The art isn't all that exciting to warrant the time spent and the price should be way lower. EDIT: The music is nice though.. Don't waste more time reading lengthy reviews.. time is of the essence!
Follow our Curator Group for more reviews
Book Series - Alice in Wonderland is actually just the real novel, but delivered with some anime illustrations. The book is word for word identical, so if you have ever read the book, you will be reading the same thing. The art is the only part of the game the developers made, and it is mediocre. It is pretty awkward to see an anime rendition of all the well known characters from the book. Overall, no reason to buy this because the book itself is in the public domain and can be legally downloaded from countless websites. 0/10
Visit our website for more in-depth reviews and recommendations
