UPDATE: 16 Hours After My Review Below: This developer is DELETING posts in his forums from people mentioning legitimate bugs in his game and asking about work-arounds or when he will fix them. Rather than responding to the issues or stating that he is working on resolving the beyond frustrating problems for players, he is simply just deleting these posts!! ...This is NOT a good sign or the behavior of a good indie developer. ----------------------------------------------- ARGHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I put up with extremely tedious combat, boring RPG story lines, and mind numbing puzzles to try and get to the "dragon".. only to face the most broken game I think I've ever seen on a screen full of timed jump platforms. I had ZERO control, there was no response from the game to the buttons and directions I was pressing. It's almost as if the developer purposely trolled his paying players here. It really is THAT bad! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMghXfM79RM I was going to give this game an "Effort Is Obvious" and tell the developer he just needs to work a lot on this game to make sure that it's fun to play and not nearly as boring and tedious... until I reached that part right before the dragon. And then his game just turned to complete non-responsive GARBAGE. It's beyond broken so bad that I don't think I've ever been more frustrated at a game in my entire life. Dev, thanks for wasting my time and my money. If you made that part of your game like that on purpose, then you are NOT "funny" or "cute". I honestly can't think of any other reason for a game being THAT broken in the way that it was except for the developer actually trolling his customers. ********************* Besides this game being beyond broken at 40 minutes into it and not giving you a chance in hell at progressing after investing 40 minutes of time into tedious gameplay... The game at NO point ever allows you to save your progess and if you ever quit the game, it makes you start completely over! ..Completely inexcusable! ********************* The art is plenty good. The story is predictable at best. The adventure until you get to the broken part of the game is beyond boring and tedious. Unless you want to waste your money, time, and get mad AF at the most broken crap ever in a game, I'd advise you to stay FAR away from this broken game made by a troll developer who thinks he's funny and cute. My Score: 0 out of 10. Go "rick roll" someone else @ 'Nerd' games. NOT RECOMMENDED. The game is tedious, boring, and beyond broken if you try and press on to get past the boring part to see the dragon. You'll feel "rick rolled" too, trust me.
Unfortunately a very bad game. It's so boring I was literally falling asleep while playing, and that is not a joke. I was misled by the charming retro pixel style. Feels unfinished. Glad it was only $5
I am nearly ashamed that I got some interest in this game , go play the other game you had in mind please Also nearly half the achievements are broken , not only on pc Game is broken I couldnt give the fisherman the 5 crabs the Y prompt appears but nothing happens , tried million times , ridicolous! avoid this terrible one! Dev of the game is hiding and dont give a F ... wow very professional
https://youtu.be/gtVrgJ-Ue-g So you've read the description and now you're down here in the comments trying to figure out what's it all about. Click the video above to see some of the gameplay, mechanic and hear my thoughts on the game. Book Quest is a Pixel RPG that has a lot of things going for it and somethings hindering it. Let's dive in to this... The Positive: It has that classic pixel zelda'ish look to it that makes it easy on the eyes. The music is funky, fun and catchy. It has unique side scrolling parts that mix-up the play from the dominant top-down view. There are a variety of items, enemies and things to do that give that RPG/Quest itch a good scratch. The Negatives: The game is way to ridged with its structure. For example, I have a 40 berries in my inventory; the npc needs 20 to make a pie. I have to go and collect 20 new berries in order to complete the quest. Also, you have to do everything in a sequence. I made it back to town but couldn't visit the blacksmith or fishing guy without completing numerous other quest before being allowed to interact with them. Also, there's a lot of backtracking where a run option would be a gift from the gods. Overall, it isn't as bad as others have made it out to be. The game does start slow and it does take time to get invested in it but it is far from boring. There are a number of other games in this genre that are a much higher quality, but there are way more games that are far worse than this one I can assure you. I would suggest you pick it up on a sale and try it for yourself. $5 seems like what this game would be worth in order to get your full enjoyment out of it without feeling ripped off.
