Love those space-arts at the background, looks atmospheric :) I was an indepented beta-tester, and after release I can say with my honor that I can recommend this game. Single-player is pretty hard, but I get a nice feeling when finally understand how to solve puzzles, also they seem like well-designed and each of them is like small (or sometimes big) task. And ending... Yeah, nice one :) Versus mode becomes INCREDIBLY fun when you achieve a full control under your movements and ball, also it's a nice choice to spent time when there's 4 of you. And yes - music! Oh, it seems like it's a jewel of this indie-game. Good luck in future!
Boltzmann Brain is a hardcore 2D arcade puzzle game with unique mechanics. TL;DR at bottom Gameplay: Boltzmann Brain is an interesting puzzle game. The core gameplay consists of the player using their vehicle to hit a ball, launching it in a direction. The goal is to get the ball into a portal, which will complete the level. The interesting part of the mechanics is that you can control the ball by causing it to mimic your movements, or to speed up. This mechanic allows for complex level design and challenging solutions that must undergo trial and error in order to succeed. The game is advertised as a hardcore puzzle game, and it certainly is close to the truth. The game is simple when you first start, naturally, and some solutions are easy to execute. However, some levels are very difficult and require precise timing and accuracy to be able to complete successfully, as there is a certain time limit for getting the ball to the portal. Each chapter in the single-player mode introduces new mechanics to increase the difficulty and complexity of the levels, making it a fresh challenge every few levels. The gameplay is quite enjoyable, and it definitely makes you think about how you can solve it, and what would be the best way to do it. Some of the earlier levels were significantly more challenging than the levels surrounding it, but it adds some variety. It can get aggravating if you are trying to work out a solution and you have to get the timing just right, but can't get it. The hitbox on the ship is strange, and it either goes vertical, horizontal, or some inconsistent diagonal direction, which makes it slightly annoying when you are trying to do something a specific way. 7/10 Graphics: The graphics of Boltzmann Brain are in a simplistic 2D style, but it is still visually appealing. The visuals are actually very detailed and well designed, while still retaining an arcade-like feel. The levels are nice to look at, and the objects within those levels are designed and animated quite well. The portals are cool looking, as well as the ball and your ship. The graphics are very well done overall, and are a definite strong suit of the game. 8/10 Music/Audio: The music in the game is not very expansive, but that is not an issue as it works just fine as background music while you are solving the puzzle. The music certainly adds to the atmosphere of the game, and it does match well with the space theme that is present in the game. The sound effects are good as well, with the basic sounds being pretty well done. They aren't anything revolutionary, but they don't need to be. This is a simple puzzle game and a simple established atmosphere is more than enough for what the game is worth. 7/10 Conclusion: Boltzmann Brain is a great puzzle game with a unique feel and interesting gameplay. I didn't play the multiplayer part of the game (as I had no friends to play with) but that part looked enjoyable as well. The gameplay mechanics are something I have not encountered before, and the game introduces enough difficulty and variety to be quite entertaining. The solo portion isn't extremely long, but the puzzles are still fun to play. If there were more players available online, the multiplayer portion of the game could be a viable option for prolonged gameplay, but there aren't many people playing right now. [Developer Clarification: This game is only local multiplayer, and does not support online play. (I was not aware of this at the time of writing this review.)] This game is still new, and I have hope for the future of the game and the developer. It is in great shape right now, and is lots of fun just in the solo story mode.
Overall: 7.5/10 - Recommended
TL;DR Pros: +Unique gameplay mechanics +Challenging puzzles +Great graphics Cons: -Inconsistent hitboxes -Aggravating (this is a pro as well, but not everyone may like getting aggravated.) Boltzmann Brain: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What’s amazing about the human brain, is how responsive it is. Within milliseconds, it can transmit a signal to a muscle and back to the brain so that you can point your finger in a specific direction. Well, in this game it’s all about figuring out the puzzles within seconds! Sounds challenging, doesn’t it? What don’t YOU try to figure out Boltzmann Brain! Boltzmann Brain is a puzzle and local co-op game developed and published by TukTuk where you must complete each level within seconds by using a drone and a ball. The single-player mode offers eight stages with five levels each to complete. You can also play this game with up to four of your friends in a local co-op mode. I haven’t tried this mode yet (I don’t have many friends 😉). In each level, you have to get a small purple ball into a small black hole (which is located on the other side of your screen) within a specific time frame, which can vary from one to six seconds. You’ll control both the drone and the ball. The idea is to use the drone to hit the purple ball either straight on, or at an angle, for the ball to start travelling through space. As soon as the ball has been hit, the countdown begins! In the first few levels, you will pretty much have to hit the ball straight on, but the difficulty will increase rather rapidly from there on, as obstacles, doors and switches are introduced. That’s when you really have to be able to control both the drone and the ball at the same time in order to successfully pass a level. To give you an idea, in one of the levels, you have to get the drone through a constantly sliding door, to reach a switch. This switch will open another door which gives you access to the black hole, which is situated within a confined space which is in the shape on an inverted L. Within this L, you will see a purple hole (teleporter). In fact, there are two teleporters; one inside the L and the other outside the L. Aim the ball at the outside teleporter; as soon as you reach it your ball will appear inside the L, where the blackhole is stationed. You have to do this in 3.5 seconds! To successfully achieve this, you must calculate the timing of the sliding door that opens and closes. When you have done so, hit the ball on an angle towards the purple teleporter that you find outside the L. Make sure that the drone activates the switch by touching it, which will open the door in front of the black hole, allowing us to hit said black hole, which is the goal. The trick to getting to this point is to change the ball’s direction to match that of the drone, which is achieved by hitting either a button on your gamepad, or two specific keys on the keyboard. This function may only be used twice; the second time you use it will cause the purple ball to become white, and you will have to wait for it to recharge. That’s if you have enough time left, of course! You’ll really have to figure out the puzzles, have good reactions and make precise movements! Expect to restart levels over and over before beating them. As I am writing this review, I am about to finish the sixth stage, and it’s getting harder and harder. Nice pixel graphics and a great soundtrack as well. In terms of the controls, you can use the keyboard or a gamepad. Personally, I prefer the gamepad. The other good point is the price. This game provides good entertainment and replay-ability. You will experience frustration quite often. Positives: ~~~~~~~ + Nice Pixel Graphics + 40 levels in the single player mode + Local co-op modes + Good price point + Achievements Negatives: ~~~~~~~~ - Frustrating at times - No trading cards yet Test your reactions, reflexes and precision in an attempt to figure out these puzzles in just a few seconds! 7/10 Key provided by developer/publisher for review purposes. Great Game. That’s all what you need to know. At first here we have good gameplay mechanic. BB is the puzzle game. Something like Pong with ability to control ball in any direction you want. Basicly you need to control 2 objects: your ship and your ball in real time. Levels hard enough. And they really interesting. At Second this game have awesome music. Soundtrack memorable and charming. Special thanks to Monplaisir Loyalty. BB is the first game of this company and no doubt successful debut.
It's NICE game, and single play look like Portal, but 2D portal with Interesting levels. Multiplayer is funny. Guys are good designers.
The game attracts with relaxed atmosphere and pleasant graphics. Also I want to mention a good soundtrack. Mechanics is amusing and simple. It's easy to get used to it. The levels are short, but you can linger on some of them for a long time. It will be pleasant either to play with your friends and alone. Worthy representative of the genre.
Соло режим крутой, конечно, но я не большой любитель головоломок, но вот за версус - однозначно лайк, люто фановый.
(Got this game for free via the developer's submission to OMEGA Trade - G. Thanks!)
You gotta have the Brain....but I don't think I do...
I'm going to be frank...I didn't quite enjoy this as much as I thought I would. Boltzmann Brain is a reflex game that requires quick timing and prayer to whichever gaming gods you hold dear. I got as far as I did mostly by trial and error, so I'd say I'm lucky to even say I played through half the game. You're only allowed a few seconds to play through each round of space golf, getting the drone (ball) into the black hole (hole) while figuring out how to get it there with your movements and the ball movements (which can change direction remotely). The problem is...trying to make the seconds work for you rather than working for the seconds...in this field, I have a problem which prevents me from enjoying this game. Graphics are decent, gameplay is brutal, music...is kinda "Ehh"... Personally, I wouldn't recommend this game, but that's just my personal tastes. If you're someone that thrives on quick reflex puzzle games, then this is for you. It's only unfortunate that it wasn't the type of game I would enjoy. Don't get Boltzmann Brain if your timing sucks like mine does... 4/10 I...actually thought it'd be easier than it was. In the end, I just didn't have fun...
I played Boltzmann Brain with friends in versus mode and I like it so much! It was a little bit hard to understand the controls but when I get used to it that was really fun! I love moments when my friends are trying to guard their gates with shield but I nevertheless outplay them by turning my ball two times. If you play you will get the idea :) Also I love these robots from 90es, especially red robot in cute birthday cap that selebrates my goals :) I dont like that I can't choose robot when I play with friends. I hope developers solve that in future.
Nice little ♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing, really enjoyed it. No bugs so far, hope none will be in the future. The gameplay shows the guys have done a great job. Though I had to spend some time reapplying controls but it was worth. This game will be appreciated by those who like challenges because each level always requires a portion of thinking =)
