Been a big fan of XXGameRoom's work since BLUE WISH RESSURECTION so it's excellent to find the next evolution of the series on STEAM. Vert SHMUP w/simple yet excellent gameplay & music. One of the ships is essentially a DODONPACHI-type, so fans of that game should love this as well. Highly recommended.
This is a really cool bullet hell for fans of the genre. The developer has been around for a while, and they really understand how to make interesting bullet patterns. The visuals aren't my favorite style, but the stage layouts and boss patterns definitely make up for it. Really, some of these boss patterns are among the best in the genre. In terms of difficulty, the game is pretty forgiving. In fact, I'd say Blue Wish Desire is a solid choice for bullet hell beginners. For more advanced players, there's a promising scoring system - but keep in mind that there are times when a death can be devastating to your score potential. You might have heard that this developer also has some other free games which aren't on Steam. But in my opinion, Blue Wish Desire is their strongest game and the best one to start with. It's definitely worth full price. Buy it for the cool bullet patterns!
This is an excellent excellent shmup clearly made with love and experience in the genre. If I had to be reductive I'd say it's Cave-esque, with the mechanics and design sensibilities of CV1000 games like Mushi/DFK with the game feel of PGM games like Ketsui and DOJ. Played half on the Steam Deck where it works perfectly fine. Just get a layout that maps the keyboard (I have one posted, but I see others). It's classic arcade shmup fare through and through. Highlights: - 5 no-BS stages, with midboss and multi-phase end boss in every stage. Stage 1 starts fast, so no DDP stage 1 snoozefest. Stages are good and feature land and air enemies that make sense with the stage background. - Excellent bullet visibility, though enemy visibility could udebabvut if eirk - Multiple difficulties, multiple ships, and toggleable generous auto-bomb. Original difficulty is manageable and easier than DFK 1-ALL with a strong type ship. Haven't tried hell. - Cave-style buttons (like DFK): fire, autofire, bomb, hyper. - Hyper cancels every bullet, grants you a short amount of invulnerability, and makes killing enemies cancel bullets close to them, important for scoring. - Support for tate mod, fast resets, and has a training mode. If you're a fan of the bullet hell subgenre or enjoy PGM-era Cave games, you can't go wrong with this game. Some cons: - Graphics are what they are. I find they are okay though nothing spectacular. Clarity is good enough. - Dying is brutal scoring-wise because it sets your chip count to 0, ouch. - Replays can desync. Trying to see if there's a reason for this.
insanity. sooo fun, frantic but still fairly accessible. and THE MUSIC! truely, it's a gem!
"English Language Not Supported" my butt! This game's arcade- that means that all menus are in english. Now for the actual review. Blue Wish Resurrection Plus was my first foray into the wonderful world of Bullet Hell Shmups. It's honestly one of my all-time favorites, second only to Giga Wing, and moreover, it's a freeware game you can download RIGHT NOW. In fact, you should probably play that first- it's quick and honestly it'll help you appreciate the wonders this game brings to the table. The flow state you reach in this game is unmatched. The frame pacing is solid and looks great on my gsync compatible display, albeit at a 62 fps cap. The game doesn't support controller out of the box, but steam input has you covered on that front. There are unlockable ships and modes to discover and it has a kicking 90's techno/trance soundtrack that really puts you in that bullet hell trance. All in all, a must-purchase in my book.
Great shoot em up similar to CAVE games - with ships similar to Dodonpachi, as well as a scoring system and bullet patterns inspired by Ketsui. Game has a pretty good soundtrack. Has a novice mode ("Heaven") which is quite easy and welcoming to players new to the genre, as well as an Original mode which is not too easy but can be cleared with some practice. The game is made easier thanks to the auto bomb mechanic enabled by default (but can be turned off in options). I've cleared both Heaven and Original at time of writing (around 4 hours). A 3rd playable ship is unlocked when clearing the game for the first time (even on Heaven), and a Hell difficulty is unlocked after clearing the game on Original difficulty, which provides much more of a challenge. Recommend the first thing you do after opening the game for the first time, is to go to the config and turn the sound effects volume down from 90 to around 82-84 based on your taste, as the sound effects volume (shooting etc) is very loud by default, while a value of 75 is just about silent. You'll be able to hear the nice soundtrack better as well.
Game plays great on SteamDeck, just need to map the keys to the controller. Tate mode no supported.
Blue Wish Desire is an extremely generic bullet hell shoot 'em up. It plays competently and is fun. However, I don't think it does much of anything that makes it standout. My favorite aspect of this game is the bullet patterns and ship movement. Both are well executed and in the zone to allow for tight dodging and little memorization. I felt most of the time I had plenty of indication of where enemy bullets were going to quickly plan my route. Though, the score drops are much larger than I'd like and can easily conceal bullets, and when those score drops cover most of the screen entire enemies. Graphics and sound are nothing impressive. Even after a couple of games, I learned most of what the enemies were going to do. Even though the game is called Blue Wish Desire, I think it could have used a little more color to it. Or at very least not as desaturated as everything is. Though, this color palette never I had me lose track of enemy bullets. The music is fast paced with a heavy beat. Which is good, but never grabbed me. Overall, I found Blue Wish Desire on the easier side of bullet hell shmups. Even in my short play time, I can make it to the final boss with the allotted continues. And I'm not an impressive shmup player. Although Blue Wish Desire did offer be several moments that made me feel much better than I am weaving and dodging bullet patterns. Ultimately, I don't find anything necessarily wrong with the game. But at the same time, I also find it to be somewhat forgettable too. I recommend it for someone that likes Cave shooters looking for more of the same at a lower (though still competent) quality and more toward the Novice setting of difficulty of Cave shooters.
One of my favorite games. Controls are great. Difficulty from beginner to maniac. Great presentation and fantastic OST.
