I wanted to like this game. I actually was liking it. But it’s too buggy for me to finish. The game is a Lovecraftian mystery with still photos of the characters. It was both cute and creepy at the same time. There are a couple of puzzles per chapter that were interesting. However … 1) the achievements don’t work, and more importantly 2) the game kept locking up on me. Since there are no manual saves and if it freezes you have to play the whole chapter again, I just don’t have the patience to go through all the dialogues and puzzles again. I was also not thrilled with the chapter ending confrontations being timed. If you don’t match the right phrases and documents, you have to start all over again. It doesn’t make sense to me that this would be a timed task. Anyway, I would have put up with that because I was enjoying the story and concept. I just don’t want to keep replaying it due to the game freezing up at least once per chapter (11 chapters in full game).
It’s not for everyone, but for the people it is for, it’s perfect for them. To some capacity, I have to respect that the developers recognize there would be some people who just want to skip all the puzzle and thinking bits and just experience the story. While completely optional, it gives you plenty of opportunities to skip over the actual gameplay. Like it for the puzzles, some of them are great and a head scratcher for sure. Either way, it is a good time
The game started off with a lovecraftian themed murder mystery that quickly evolved into an interesting story. Overall it was a interesting story. I would recommend the game for people who like jank of small indy games and enjoy the murder mystery genre in a weird lovecraftian setting.
I had a good time playing this game, but here's some details I would add: Pros: great characters, interesting story, very nicely thematic score, lots of spooky vibes Cons: visuals are a bit outdated, instructions into what the gameplay is and how to utilize it and the occasional moon logic included. Overall a mostly positive experience, but with some imperfections.
Initially, I was going to be a bit harsher on this game, but when I got to the credits and saw how small the studio was, I decided to go much easier. This game has a lot going for it. The photographs are super interesting and unique, and give it a very distinct feel and personality. The pencil look, while a little muddy, very much so throws you into the atmosphere of the game, enhancing the 1800’s feel. That said, there are a lot of little things that I hope get patched up. Animations, random visual glitches, and spelling errors mostly. This was where I was going to be harsher, but I am pretty sure they don’t have anyone on QA. Hopefully they will find and fix most of these. Overall, I had a good time, and I hope that they are able to improve it more for the future.
I really enjoyed the demo when it came out, I’m so glad to see it fully released! So far, good characters and world. Puzzles are sometimes a bit hard to tell what’s going on, but fit well with what is happening. Overall I’m intrigued to see where it goes, and I have enjoyed it enough up to this point to push through.
Victorian Lovecraft murder mystery? Yes please!
I thought this was going to just be a generic point-and-click mystery, but between the visual style and the unexpected Lovecraftian horror, there's a lot to love! Definitely many hours of entertainment, which certainly justifies the price. I wish there were some little goodies to search for in each scene, but then again, that'd probably just end up frustrating my completionist brain, like all of the Batman Arkham games.
I think I am about half way (chapter 6), and so far I am very intrigued. I really want to see where it goes from here, it's a very fun ride so far!
Indie with a capital I game. Feels like a first-time game from a small team. Everything I would expect from that: Passion, heart, interest, bugs and strangeness included. I will be keeping an eye on this developer though, I would love to see where they go from here.
