Blink: Rogues is a great game made by dedicated, feedback-oriented developers. The game itself has a great gimmick - BLINK - move from the left side of the screen to the right side (In the "blink" of an eye - HA PUNS) Current enemy types, current weapons and the story are solid, well drawn, well animated and the most important thing: The game is enjoyable and fun. Playing with Friends will be something I look forward to and I can't wait for further updates!
Disclaimer: I'm friends with the devs and helped out a bit with coding The gameplay is an attempt to spice up the classical shmup game mode with two parallel screens which you can switch between. Enemies and power ups spawn in either, so you have to switch at opportune times. There's also a local pvp mode with two players where both can invade each other's screen in order to steal the points and power ups, turning it into a bloody fun competition. The graphics are simplified, but easy to understand, and the screen switching is easy to pull off once you get used to it. It's rough around the edges, but it is an interesting game.

Disclaimer : I know the developers . This doesn't look like a finished product but like something halfway through Early access . The combat game play is decent and the simple graphics help you focus on your targets. But everything else ? The music is monotonous at its best and beside the Blink mechanic , the rest of your actions don't have sounds . The campaign is just a tutorial without any story or motivation for the player to complete the missions. No sense of progress or options to customize your ship. The enemies design and animations are .. dry :( Maybe is fun in multiplayer, but i don't play competitive multiplayer games. I will review this again if there is a serious content update to it !
I won't hide that I am part of the development team. And as such, I am obviously biased. And also as such, I have already removed/fixed the great majority the things that I did not like about this game. The few that are still remaining, we have plans about those - for instance: adding a couple more maps, a couple more enemies, and a party mode (read that quick PvP local tournaments). I love the new graphics, I love it when I hit with the rail, while moving, Blink to steal a MegaHealth from the opponent, masterfully flip in order to avoid a shotgun, get the frag, and then ... I run into the first enemy and die. This game is really fun when played with another human, and this is also pretty much the opinion of everyone that I've seen playing the multiplayer. And now, there's also the co-op mode, which brings even more mayhem to the mix. I also like the challenge of the single player - even if I am not very good at it myself. I like the flow of each level, the level progression (yes, the last levels are more fun, but also much more difficult), and at one point I WILL finish that frustrating survival mode!
Clean graphics, smooth controls and a high skill level cap, make this game very enjoyable in a very short time. The game unique mechanics really shine in multi-player, but I do expect more weapons and special powers once released.
This game came a long way from where it was 1 year ago. It has a totally different feel right now! All in all its a fun little game to play and relax! :)
Blink: Rogues is, at its core, like every other top-down, shoot-'em-up. There are plenty of enemies with plenty of laser projectiles everywhere, and your goal here is to make it to the end, killing as many enemies as you can and dying as little as possible in the process. You'll be rated depending on how many enemies you destroy as well - between 1 to 3 stars with 3 stars being award to players who managed to snag an impressive 100% kill rate. You can play the single player mode which contains a story mode with 10 levels plus a survival mode, or you can grab a friend, plug in a pair of controllers and compete with him/her to get the highest score.
Watch me play!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-uBOOWRbnQ Blink: Rogues can be difficult to get into and its learning curve can be a tad bit high for midcore gamers like me but that's mainly because it's not like any other shmups I've ever played. I know I've just contradicted myself there so let me explain... What makes Blink: Rogues so incredibly unique is the ability (and need) to switch between screens (a.k.a. timelines) by blinking, and as you progress, blinking goes way beyond just teleporting you to the neighboring screen just so you can avoid crashing into flying pillars or enemies; it also triggers certain special abilities too like invulnerability shield and EMP wave. This little gameplay mechanism is even more interesting when you're playing with a friend via split screen. You can basically blink into their side of the screen to try to ambush them (this is where the game's PvP label comes in) and steal all their power-ups/loot/kills. Of course, they can do the same to you so you'll need to be constantly vigilant while trying your hardest to not get killed by the AI as well. Not to mention, you can even flip from front to back. The only direction you won't be able to shoot at is sideways. This, coupled with the fact that you'll need to switch screens really quickly and that you need to position your ship correctly before blinking in order to "stun" enemy ships or clear away obstacles like pillars, makes the game a lot more difficult than you'd expect. However, I'm sure hardcore fans of shmups would be absolutely delighted with the game! That's not to say the game is flawless. Personally, I find the storyline and also the boss fights rather underwhelming. The devs could have do so much more to make boss fights a lot more challenging and exciting (hint: by utilizing the abilities that are granted to the player), and this is saying something because I'm not exactly great at the game and I already find the boss fights too easy and boring. The story isn't very engaging as well, in my opinion, and I enjoy sci-fi stuff in general. The game ended with more questions than answers... though, I guess I might get more answers once I've finished collecting all the Memento cubes, and I think all the characters in the story aren't exactly likable. P/S: Memento cubes are collectibles that you can pick up while playing which contain story snippets.
Pros
+ Challenging, difficult gameplay that is well-suited for a hardcore fan of the genre, and perhaps a midcore gamer who has a lot of experience playing shmups in general and is looking for a bit more challenge. + Sufficient variety of enemies and obstacles + A very nice range of blink-linked abilities that will change how you play. The different ammo types are also different enough to warrant frequent use. This means that you won't just choose the best ammo type and just spam it; you actually have to match the correct ammo type with the correct enemy you go up against. + Has plenty of replayability if you plan on playing the game with a friend (split screen mode). The game is a lot more fun that way as well!
Cons/Feedback
- The game does have a pretty high learning curve, especially if you aren't really great at these games in the first place. All the flipping about can be dizzying. - Underwhelmingly-easy boss fights. Considering how difficult the other parts of the gameplay are, I think the dev could add a bit more challenge here. Frankly speaking, the fidget-spinner-like enemy ship is a lot harder to take on than bosses here. - I'm not a fan of the story. It has a lot of gaping holes, filled with characters that I just can't relate to, and at the end of the day (the last level), I had no idea who I was playing as and I'm not sure who I'd rooted for if I had the choice. - The original price can be a bit high if you are playing alone (assuming the acceptable rate of $1 per hour of entertainment). The story mode can be a bit short if your goal is to just unlock the next level and the survival mode is fun enough but I'm not sure if I'd sink 5-6 hours playing the survival mode alone.
Overall
Despite only getting 2 stars out of 30, I still had a pretty fun time playing Blink: Rogues and would recommend it to fans of the genre who are looking for something uniquely different. Blinking plays a huge role in the gameplay and because of it, what would otherwise be a typical shmup became so much more interesting. And of course, I couldn't emphasize this enough - the game can end up being fairly short if you aim to only play the game alone, but if you can grab a friend to play the game with you, you definitely should! The game is so much better when there's a bit of PvP involved!
