This game had an interesting free demo involved with it that gives a solid taste as to what one can expect from the whole of the experience. It is a very simple visual novel and really the only thing to critique here is the plot line and character development. The game is mostly centered around war as it's primary theme. You play as a rich kid whose family is very powerful within their country and when that country goes to war with another, to build some prestige you are sent to fight alongside some mercenaries on the frontline. However, you weren't actually expected to do any fighting yourself. You would only contribute towards this by doing logistics management safely from within the camp. This was supposed to ensure that the privileged lad would be safe from harm while the lower status people did all the dirty and dangerous work. Despite this the leader of the mercenaries ridiculously decided that the rich boy had some unique merit and that he was very much qualified, even more so than his other experienced agents, to go on very menacing and difficult special missions few others can do. This is just ludicrous and damages the immersion of the game because it doesn't make any sense that some rich boy who never held a sword before would be immediately trusted to carry out very crucial and difficult objectives that involve combat and killing. With the very basis as to why the player's character was even involved in the special missions that make up most of the game so ridiculous, you nevertheless trot along from mission to mission and juggle between the horrors of war and the bliss of love. Yet even the love in this game in nothing extraordinary. The player's character finds himself supposedly torn between his love for three woman at once, but the game is overwhelmingly spent trotting alongside only one of the three and the other two are sidelined. Towards the end of the game you are given a silly choice between the three woman as to which one you want to be with but the entire game was spent with only one so of course i'm going to choose that particular one! The whole thing is honestly just one big cliche that seems designed to shock people with gruesome and unholy events but doesn't actually have any real message or meaning to it's story. Almost everything in it you have probably seen happen in some other visual novel, novel, movie, show or anything like this. I thought this was finally a game that realistically depicted how horrible, sick and stupid war truly is when most games don't do this or even celebrate war as being necessary if not fun and a pleasure. This game instead also depicted killing, imprisonment, deception and other crimes as necessary evils during pressing circumstances. Without giving any spoilers, I will say that even towards the end of the story if you were looking for an unequivocal and clear condemnation of war to sum up it's purpose you will be disappointed. Rather than just state "war is bad," it seems to imply that "war is bad but sometimes it is necessary," as I was forced to kill throughout the game and benefited from doing so. It is a game you could play if you aren't looking for a serious experience or a challenge and just want something to help pass the time I suppose but then again there are probably more productive things to be done.
A unique and entertaining point and click adventure game in the vein of Space Pilgrim about war, politics, love and everything in between. The game is more of an interactive novel, the puzzle part is very easy, too easy I would say, so if you are expecting to get creative about picking things and combining them in the inventory, this is not the game for you. The game tackles adult issues such as rape and abuse, but very tastefully, which is testament to the overall excellent writing. The world is rich with characters and they all have a story, even the many NPCs will tell you their tale. The creators really took their time with every detail, including some humorous: in a city with many stray dogs, of course you will find poop on the street :) ... which should have been an achievement itself. Pros: - Excellent writing, intriguing story, characters - Choices matter: Four possible endings and many other little tangents (lots of replay value), all dependant on the choices you make in the game: finding love in times of war can be complicated. - Excellent length/value. A game worth buying even at full price, which is an exception to the general rule of paying double for just a few hours of gameplay. - The technical puzzles can be skipped. Cons - The dialogues and automatic scenes sometimes seem to go forever. The player should have more control. - The inventory puzzles are too easy. A bit more complexity would have added to the enjoyment of the game. An example of such combination is Space Pilgrim. Overall a must play for any adventure gamer.
Bleeding Moons definitely deserves its adult only rating. Much violence and a number of dark situations. However, it is an OUTSTANDING game! I quickly 'became' my character and was so torn by some of the choices I had to make. There was one part where I dreaded going into the next room because I was so afraid of what I may have to do! Great story telling, great music and just a great all around experience. 10/10
Good game. Recommended for those who just want to relax and would like to enjoy a story of war, love and duty without complicated and dull battle systems or the like (can even skip puzzles if that's not your cup of tea like me!). Overall I had a great experience playing this and I wish there were more RM gems like this one :) Good job, dev! 8/10
This game is amazing :) I won't translate what I said, but shortly, extremely developed charaters, with heartbreaking choice to make sometimes, and huge turnarounds. I highly recommend this game :)
A unique game which might be short on puzzles but has a complex and engaging story that will last long in your memory after playing the game. With a very interesting and relatable main character the game also includes some genuinely tough moral choices throughout the game. Some interesting discussions about morals and ethics that are not often seen in games. The different endings might be a little arbritrary but this mature game is still highly recommended! First of all, I'm writing this review as a huge THANK YOU to the creator. I just finished the game and I'm absolutely in love with it! I spent about a good 10 hours playing through the story and because I'm that kind of guy that wants to know everything, I logged over 200 saves. I'll be going back to my final save later this week to try something a little different. After that I'm likely to try again from the beginning to see what I might be able to change.
I was surprised to find out I was locked out of Luna's ending but the rest were available to me
This is a lite RPG/ VN that is all about CHOICE. If you enjoy VN's but prefer to have actual gameplay I could not find a better recommendation than this game! I'm very impressed with the characters and the story. If that kind of thing sounds interesting to you then BUY this game. Be aware the that it's very much an indie game and that outside of storyline you will likely find the rest lacking. Personally, I'm 100% fine with that but you should understand that the UI and gameplay itself are not the focus here. I haven't played a game that had such a fun and interesting story to follow since I finished Disco Elysium last year. The story will stick with you and you'll want to try again just to see how things could've gone differently!
Stay through the credits for a pretty neat epilogue to the characters you've met throughout the game and how things played out for them
Good game with no meaningless JRPG BS Fighting replaced with easy not annoying hard quest if you are just for the story and choices and innovative quest with meaningful choices The downside is few bugs
Wonderful masterpiece of a game that deals with adult themes.
