Bad controls, bland graphics, feels uninspired.
Sidescrolling shoot 'em up that keeps getting updated and polished even 10 years after release. BlastZone 2 controlled well enough with gamepad, including d-pad. I liked the design of the enemy ships very much although they were licenced from a 3rd party website (at least it was awknowledged and not AI generated). Some small ships seemed like bullet sponges and moved way too fast. Not only way more nimble than me, but I had trouble getting a bead on them or avoiding them when they came in a wave. On the other hand, all but the first big boss were static and their attacks were only patterns of red bullets, which was disappointing. The "cinematic" campaign was one boring paragraph of text at the start of each area. Several ships and game modes for replayability, even the first Blastzone was included. I liked the effect when enemies moved from the back of the screen to the front although often I thought they could be shot when they could not. Way too expensive at regular price. Should have been 5 bucks maximum. Recommended but on deep sale.
needs a lot of work
Decent quality and amount of content for the price.

I like how it is a side scroller with a 3d environment. The 3d terrain and clouds adds a unique feel to this side scrolling shooter. Its fun to play as well. Bullet hell mania. lol
The game is overall fun and simple, the graphics are nice with 3D models, there's a lot of action but it's not too overwhelming. The developer seems active with this game which is nice. After an update the game now supports multiple resolutions and vertical screens (shrinked). If you have an arcade machine with a 16:9/9:16 screen, it plays well with an arcade button panel. Recommended.
Apparently the blast zone is actually quite large. BlastZone 2 is a short indie side scrolling shooter (ala R-type but I wouldn't say this game is that similar to R-type) made by solo developer Mat Edzenga. It features a number of different ships with different load outs, 8 stages filled with enemy ships, interesting 3D graphics and a few extra modes to try your hand at once you have beaten the main game. It also has local 2 players, controller support and costs only a few bucks.
Good
-pretty fun in 2 players. Not too difficult. -some interesting level design in places -goofy polygon graphics -active dev
Bad
-sometimes felt a bit bland, particularly in the enemy design -projectiles that are moving between screen depths are really hard to judge We had a bit of fun with blastzone2, everything works well and it's hard to hang too many criticisms at it when it only costs a few dollars. Worth a crack if you enjoy shoot-em-ups and want some cheap, fast fun
3/5
