It's a solid hack n slash from what I've played so far. Ya get hack n slash ur way thru large open areas. It is a bit satisfyin' mowin' thru tons of enemies, You can also customize character, replay areas, etc. There is a bit of jank and grammar errors. Not too bad for the price tag. Gameplay Impressions: https://youtu.be/kbnuxZJ6SBs
"Fire-god tells me to kill zombies, demons, and monsters so I kill things! Fire-god tells me to protect fairy so I protect fairy! Fire-god say yellow leaved autumn trees hold powerful secrets so I go there!" ~Human survivor after the great star fall When you're a small time dev or dev team it's important to know your limitations. Your first game probably isn't going to be as grandiose as another GTA,Fallout,Skyrim,Cyber-Punk,Witcher,Stellar Blade,Nier Automata,or Dragon's Dogma. But a humble indie project can still turn out to be decent if the gameplay is fun and the main character isn't a hideous unpleasant flesh golem of a human being! Well congratulations,Blade Abyss! You already have a lead over certain piles of triple A slop we've been force fed in current year! Blade Abyss is more or less a free roam hack n slash horde mode with a few objectives, some upgrades scattered about,a handful of bosses, and plenty of creature fodder to slaughter. (There's also a day and night cycle that seems to effect the power-scaling of certain enemy encounters.) At some point a beautiful Native American woman wielding a war hatchet teams up with a fairy named Aurora. (Whom can likewise die if you're not too careful!) Luckily, you can leave Aurora at periodic checkpoints before whistling to let her know the coast is clear! Later on there is a section where you have to protect Aurora from a rushing mob as she is closing a demon portal. This can "suck" if you don't enter the frey with plenty of assist items and at least a couple permanent weapon, armor, and health power ups you can find along the way. When you finally triumph over this trial by fire Aurora thanks you for your help then vanishes. Eventually you'll help other nature spirits in a similar fashion. I'd tell you about the riveting soundtrack if there actually was one but most of the game is eerily quiet save for the sound of rustling grass or the shrieks and moans of nearby "things". Odd as it may seem this is to Blade Of Abyss's credit, adding uneasy ambiance to the already isolating atmosphere. It is my hypothesis Blade Abyss takes place after a strange apocalypse,on a primitive planet,or long before the industrial age. In any of these scenarios I suppose you would not be bopping your head to rizz epic tunes from your walk-man or i-pod so it kind of makes sense! (The dev or devs probably couldn't afford hiring a composer full time but I digress!) There's something surreal and dream-like about these little indie projects that leaves it up to your own imagination to fill in the gaps and in a way I appreciate that. I prefer going with the "strange apocalypse" angle in which nature reclaimed everything and the comets constantly streaking across the sky reawakened all things magical,fey-like,eldritch,and demonic. In this case the 5 buck is a fair asking price for what you get! Pros +Attractive somewhat customizable female protagonist. +All the game assets gel well together. +Combat is enjoyable because hits feel impactful and it is easy to combo juggle in the air or on the ground! +The plains, forests, and abandoned ruins make for a darkly enchanting place to visit periodically! +Though dealing with fairies are glorified escort missions you can let them hang out at safe check point locations before whistling at them to follow you. (Also remember that they will stay around their flag once you plant it into the ground.) +Check points allow you to purchase helpful items and to rest after you meet certain objectives. +Day and night cycle as well as weather effects. +A bevy of beasts, mutated horrors, and big muscly brutes to encounter! +The map option in the main menu allows you to revisit earlier events in your adventure if you need to farm for more points to spend on items or need to pick up important upgrades you missed out on. Cons -The "demon portal segments" can be a pain if you start them unprepared! -Don't know if fairies being able to take damage adds an additional strategic wrinkle to the proceedings or just contributes to more annoying busy work! -While I occasionally appreciate the silence as well as being allowed to use my own imagination to fill in the blanks, this game would have still benefited from an expanded soundtrack and more in depth character growth/world building. -Sometimes it takes exploiting the game's strange eccentricities to get an outfit change to carry over into your current play-thru. -Enemies that chuck projectiles at you along narrow walkways. Why do devs subject us to this purgatorial torture? You can knock their stones or arrows back at them with precise swings of your hatchet but it is a frickin hassle all the same! One of those old school gaming tropes that will up your blood pressure and make your eye twitch uncontrollably! (These sections are beatable but man, don't ask me just how many times I fell to my death!) For you if You ever wondered what would happen if Frank Frazetta,Brom,Jack Vance,Boris Vallejo,or Robert E Howard had a crack at adapting one of their short stories or one of their pieces of artwork into a fully functioning video game! (With a tribal Native American twist as well as a very agile and attractive female protagonist!) Not for you if If you want something that innovates beyond typical platforming sections, brief escort missions, and skirmishing against trash mobs whilst facing off against the occasional big boss or timed tower-defense-horde-mode segment Blade Of Abyss ain't gonna blow your socks off. It was probably made for old guys like myself or zoomers whom have a strange appreciation for surprisingly enjoyable yet obscure weekend rental games that could only be found on the most dusty spider-web covered backroom shelves! (Oft is the case we appreciate treasures more when they are well hidden!)
Less than an hour in, Medium difficulty. It's definitely a solid work considering a solo dev. A couple of things to note for those who may be interested: Technical Features

[strike]The game's resolution settings is...quirky? The screen resolution is tied to FPS, and there's only a 40FPS or 165FPS options. 40 is, well, too stiff feeling, but 165 just send my mid-tier PC to overdrive and gets me a bit scared. Wonder why there's no 60 FPS option (which is often more than enough to my eyes).[/strike] EDIT: this seems to be an issue of my own device. The FPS options seems to be tied to my screen refresh rate of 40Hz and 165Hz. Others should not have this issue.
Game Progression

You walk, you see monsters, you kill them, until you see this fire-like spot that sort of rates your performance and let you access a shop to buy consumables (healing items and ammos of sort).

I killed a boss I think? And then suddenly there's this segment that looks like an escort mission of some sort. Failed it twice, and somehow the NPC didn't follow me on my next try, and still got the rating thing. Kinda confused.

Combat Impression

The basic combat structure is dial combo-based. There are dash attacks with distinct functionality both on the ground and in the air. There's a weapon clash-like mechanic a la DMC that damages enemy. Dashes can pretty much cancel everything, so while there's some stiffness in the animations, the control feel is generally fluid.
Enemies are highly aggressive, and would constantly chase you and attack you. However, crowd control options feel limited, with the only reliable one so far being the YXYX... launcher. So I end up fighting in a bit of a hit-and-run style, constantly dashing around whether on ground or in air. Pretty neat and cool.

...The problem is that this combat flow doesn't really work with an escort mission.

The more universal problem is that all this makes a fair bit of the dial combo moveset redundant, because it's generally hard to finish the chain. Not to mention that they feel functionally similar to each other, as they are variation of "attack in place." Had some of these moves have bigger crowd control or character movement functionality, I'd probably have reasons to use them but...
All in all, a respectable work especially considering it being a solo dev product. At this price point (roughly $10 where I live), it's an enjoyable purchase. I hope some more mid-range FPS option is added, because I don't really want to be scared about my hardware while playing a videogame.
Good value for money and enough moveset variety to not make the hack and slash experience boring.
The game contains innovative ideas, I liked the character design, the atmosphere is not bad, it would be better if supported, the camera system should be fixed, the fighting mechanics are good but lacking, there is no enemy artificial intelligence, plus there is no sense of hitting.
