Blackheart delivers an engaging and flexible combat experience, allowing players to sandbox the way they deal with encounters through an expansive arsenal of spells. The game allows the player to mix and match different combinations of tools to suit any playstyle, whether that be close & personal, long-range & defensive or anything inbetween. In addition to this is the modifier system which truly is the cherry on top for a highly customisable player experience. Each unique modifier enhances the already thrilling combat, with some creating mini-games within the gameplay that provide the player bonuses when mastered: For example, increased damage for not taking hits, or quite the opposite, being granted a powerful damage effect and a healing burst when experiencing a fatal blow. The ability to freely respec equipped spells and modifiers keeps the combat fresh and encourages the player to refine their current setup or experiment with different playstyles. On top of that, Blackheart has an incredibly engaging narrative, with well executed dialogue from a distinct cast of characters that draws you in and actually feels like it is advancing the world around you. An easy recommend from me.
Blackheart is one of those games that I ultimately enjoyed enough to recommend, but I also don't think it's something that will appeal to everyone. If I had to summarize it simply, it's a twin-stick shooter with magic abilities, exploration, and a strong emphasis on its story and characters. It took me roughly five hours to reach one ending, with additional endings available depending on the choices you make and how thoroughly you explore. Combat is solid throughout. The player gains new magical abilities over the course of the adventure, giving you more options as the game progresses, and the core shooting mechanics feel responsive. My biggest criticism is that enemy variety doesn't evolve all that much from the opening hours. While new abilities help with combat variety, you're largely fighting variations of the same enemies for most of the game, which makes encounters become a little repetitive by the end. There are three boss fights, and while I enjoyed them overall, the final boss is a considerable jump in difficulty compared to everything that comes before it. I wouldn't necessarily call it unfair, but it definitely stood out compared to the rest of the game's relatively forgiving combat encounters. Where I think Blackheart will resonate most with players is its narrative. The world is filled with interesting characters, and your final choice determine which ending you receive. If you're someone who plays games primarily for their story, I think this is where the game offers the most value. Personally, I play games almost entirely for their gameplay, so while I didn't dislike the dialogue, I also found it frequent enough that it greatly reduced my interest in replaying the game to see the other endings. It's never overly long or intrusive, but there is enough of it that I found myself wanting to get back to playing. Exploration is another major focus. New abilities and important upgrades are hidden throughout the world, encouraging players to thoroughly search every area. There isn't a traditional map outside of the fast travel screen, so progression relies heavily on remembering landmarks and mentally piecing together how areas connect. Some players will enjoy this style of exploration, while others may occasionally find themselves wandering in search of where to go next. One thing worth mentioning for achievement hunters: despite completing Ending 1 twice, the corresponding Steam achievement never unlocked for me. Hopefully that's something that gets patched in the future. Overall, I think Blackheart is a fine game. The combat is enjoyable, the story seems like it will resonate with players who prioritize narrative, and the exploration encourages curiosity. While I don't see myself replaying it due to the emphasis on dialogue and relatively limited enemy variety, I still had a good enough time to recommend it. Just know going in that this is a story-driven adventure first, with competent twin-stick combat supporting it rather than carrying the entire experience.
Great game, love the art and play style. :)
A really stylish ARPG with tasty-crunchy game play. Loving the art and the whole Gothic vibe.
This is a criminally underexposed game. It's an extremely well put together action game with fluid game play and a well realized world. Exploration is fun, combat is fun, and the story is engaging enough to pull you along. There are some especially good quotes that I may be *ahem* "borrowing" for future use, so thank you very much, Blackheart devs! Overall, there are only good things to say about this experience. If you have an even passing interest, please give it a try!
First act was fantastic - great story, I'm intrigued to learn where it's going. The environment looks great. Some of the encounters are rather tricky, it look a few tries to learn the mechanics of certain mobs and how to beat them. Act 1 took around 2.5 hours, and it seems like there is three acts in total. Highly recommend checking this one out

Fun game to play on the go. Nice & relaxed with plenty of unexpected action. You'll keep wanting to come back to explore more.
Plays really well and the story is cool! Awesome game!
I haven't had enough time to get really into it. But from the time I have played so far, I am confident I will be coming back. It controls really great, a lot of really nice polish touches. Has a really great sound track and audio. And the story so far is very intriguing.
