Fantastic so far. Engaging and challenging combat that isn’t rage-inducing. Good pacing of combat mechanics being introduced and what looks like a huge amount of modifiers and abilities to unlock. Have only defeated the first boss so far but with how satisfying that was I’m looking forward to progressing the story more. Listed as partial controller support atm, but it’s been perfectly playable on steam deck and runs incredibly well. With some tweaks to round out the controller stuff this will get verified status no problem.
Great level design, you are heavily rewarded for exploring. Fun narrative, definitely had a few chuckles. Giant demon owl 10/10 hope he doesnt betray me or anything
Hades has never clicked for me in the gameplay department. I just am not a fan of the roguelike structure. This game has so many of the strengths of Hades, but none of the frustrating, game resetting, mechanics of rogue-likes. So far Blackheart is shockingly good for how little attention it has received, Regardless of commercial success, this dev team should be proud of what they created. The only thing that it's missing is an in-game map.
Blackheart is basically Hades meets Hyper Light Drifter. So far, I'm incredibly impressed. This is an outstanding experience that’s absolutely worth your time and money. The writing is sharp, the setting is intriguing, and the combat with its variety of spells and modifiers is really engaging and fun. On top of that, the art is stunning and the soundtrack/sound design is beautiful. Although I haven't finished the game yet, I wanted to leave this early review to help boost its visibility because I think it deserves the attention. I'm excited to dive deeper into the game and will update my review once I've completed it. If you're considering Blackheart, I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a try. Disclaimer: I contributed a few pieces of illustrative artwork for some cutscenes as an independent contractor. However, I am not directly affiliated with Hyporeal and was not involved in any other aspect of development. I played Blackheart properly for the first time at release, and while I’m naturally inclined to see it succeed, I wouldn't have bought it at full price and left this review unless I genuinely believed in the game.
Good so far - well polished and combat is satisfying. I'm intrigued to find out more about the story, but overall seeming pretty well put together so far (only a short way in to date).
Awesome game! Genuinely one of my favourite games I've played in a long time. Amazing world created here. Very enchanted. Ambience that rivals Oblivion.
Really fun and great story telling!
Easy recommend from me.
- Iced a bunch of monsters with my magic. - leveled up allocating everything into Crit! - Went back out to the woods to collect flowers and items to incriminate my family members. - Iced some bigger challenging monsters. - No back-tracking, just pops me back where I need to be to explore and slay more.
This game respects your time with refined game flow, story progression, and satisfying progression loops.
Heaps of content so far, I'll be playing more to see the different unlocks and to become an overpowered crit machine! please have chain lightning though
Blackheart's dark fantasy art style is absolutely stunning. The combat feels great and keeps you engaged throughout. Solid game that delivers on both visuals and gameplay. Worth your time if you enjoy dark fantasy action games. Combat feels great on controller too.
This game is really cool! Different to what I usually play. The blend of story-driven narrative and engaging combat creates a good balance that keeps me hooked. The music, art style, and animations are all done really well especially considering it's from a small studio. It’s impressive how much effort has gone into every aspect of the game. Definitely can't wait to play some more!
