Reviews

Great and enjoyable storyline
Ma'am that is your younger sister who is in high school!
We have yuri, we have incest, kemomimi waifu, tired gamer waifu, let's make a story. Was it a good idea? Blackberry Nova is the sequel to Blueberry Nova, which I have yet to read, but they're distant enough from each other, so the knowledge of the prequel is not required to enjoy the story. The reader follows Kotori, who just moved to another city to enter the school that her sister, Aika, joined a year earlier. This turn of events was motivated by Kotori's feelings for her, rather than her passion for studying. After a brief prologue, where one of the Kotori's past interactions with Aika is presented, you see her introduced to Aika's friends, and shortly after, to a pair of her new classmates- Izumi and Eri. From now on, by making certain choices, you can develop relationship with some of them. There are a few endings, which you should be able to reach in a few hours tops. Then again, due to the unusual story structure, reaching some of the endings can be a bit tricky. I sure had to seek some help from the game's forum to see all conclusions. The structure is what makes this vn stand out a bit. The main story is split into two parts: the common route and the character route. The common route is presented in a standard, linear way, but the character routes are not. After the common route ends, you're presented with a list of available routes. Moreover, all character routes are split into two or more separate parts, which can be completed in any order. For example, you can finish one part of Aika's route, then jump to do two parts of Eri's route, then do a few parts of Yukino's route, then another part of Aika's route, and so on until you complete all routes or reach one of the endings. Now here's the tricky part: some of the endings can be reached only when you make the correct choices during the common route and play the character routes in a specific order. On top of that, the choice of character routes is independent of the choices you make during the common route. No matter which answers you give during the common route, you have the same character routes available. This freedom of choice makes it difficult to find the less obvious endings. Have fun if you want to figure this out on your own. As for the opinon on the quality of the writing and my overall enjoyment, I don't regret spending either the time or the money on this vn. The writing is mildly engaging, focused on slice of life, and devoid of major surprises. In other words, don't expect much beyond your average university-level yuri romance. For fans of the genre, it should be enjoyable enough. The visual part of this budget title is decent enough. The characters have a very limited pool of poses and facial expressions, and they look a bit too samey to each other, but the level of detail and colours are fine. There is a good number of decent enough backgrounds, so your eyes won't suffer and you won't have to stare at any one of them for too long. Not bad overall considering the price. Music-wise, there is a fairly good number of tracks. Still, while you won't be hearing the same track over and over again, they're all forgettable and generic. I might be wrong, but I feel like I heard some of the tracks before. Buying ready-made music is a common cost-cutting method for indie devs. On the bright side, there was definitely some effort put into this. No bugs were encountered. In conclusion, if you don't mind budget quality EOL vns, and like yuri themes, then there is a good chance you might find this one to your liking. Just don't set your bar too high: 5.7/10
