It's a fun game for a bit, but completely abandoned by the devs and there will never be expansion There's the bones of a good game here, but its just lacking the extra sauce that it needs and it'll never get it
the game is dead, devs left it to rot. If you like BPRE, get it. If not, don't. It's not worth it.
As someone who actually enjoys BPRE lore wise, and comic wise and not willing to spend over 200+ on the board game edition, this is a fair entry point, however it is basically abandoned, as far as I can see, last update in 2023. If you avidly like BPRE, collect the 28mm minis, get this. Otherwise I can't really reccomend this to someone. It is a very niche game.
I want to play and love this game so bad. I love the comic and plan to buy the table top game at some point. The mechanics are simple, yet rewarding. Especially when you activate certain actions in a way that right when you think things are about to go FUBAR; they let you complete the mission. However, the glaring issue is the crashing. I have crashed 5 times with varying play times every play session. But the common is at least just under 30 minutes; with the fastest being 8 minutes and my most recent. I don't know what the issue is. Maybe due to me skipping enemy turns via the space bar? No. Maybe the game speed is set too fast? No. What if I set it to at least just 2X speed? No. Verify files and perform a fresh install? No. It's a shame the game will seem to be left in this state, judging from one discussion thread having the Dev's say they're done with development. I have submitted error reports to the website and via Crash Pop Ups, as they've asked. But I don't have much hope.
I can't make any progress because of frequent crashing. I like a lot of janky games, but this is advanced silliness. Spend $20 on something else.
No, they abandoned it and also it crashes all the time.
So I saw a friend buy this game and I was intrigued. I like turn based tactical games, and it had a lot of neat things going for it in the trailers and the tutorials. Unfortunately the game isn't that deep and its design made it frustrating. The campaign is non-existent military jargon being thrown around while they pretend these string of missions are all connected. There are basically three mission types, eliminate the target, exfil the target, or escape from a hostile area. I played for little over an hour and felt I had experienced everything the game had to offer and it got very repetitive very quickly. Stealth is actually enjoyable enough, but the missions lack depth. While going loud is not enjoyable at all. Unlike games such as XCOM or Mechanicus which is a more apt comparison, there is no way to even the playing field in action economy. While you do get an extra action when compromised and a drone strike, the drone strike is a one time use and by design you are supposed to be out action economied. But I think its just handled in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ way. The fundamental problem with loud missions is that you might be able to clear a group of enemies but that uses all of your action points, only for new guys to spawn in and shoot your guys to bits. Or more likely clog up the narrow corridors you need to progress. Flanking doesn't really work either as some paths just lead to dead ends and ultimately you need to push to the exit but cannot because your path is blocked. Protracted fire fights are miserable and will usually end up in a squad wipe. Now that is in line with their design, which thematically isn't bad but if going loud is going to be certain death then they shouldn't have loud missions and that should be considered a near fail state like for stealth missions. I also find some of the tactical elements to be shallow as everyone has the same loadout, Breaching is down to sneak in or flash band and no real options for dealing with groups of enemies like grenades, or suppressing fire. your support options are limited in scope and use. No alternative loadouts like shotguns or machineguns. It just makes the experience too shallow and repetitive for an asking price of $20. If you are initerested get it on sale, but otherwise pass. There are better games out there. As for positives I do like the sprite work, and the music. It is a very atmospheric game and you do feel like a bunch of prowlers stalking the back streets of a Yemeni city. The music is also decent too.
This game has such great potential. The pixel art execution gave it a unique look. However, the mechanics and gameplay are very limited. If the game maintained the artistic aspect but brought elements similar to X-COM or even DOOK KICKERS to the mechanics, it would be a unique product. However, I think that would be a second project. Currently, if this project had a linguistic expansion of the product to achieve greater cultural assimilation among gamers around the world, that would already be a huge positive! I myself stopped and played it a little due to the language barrier, but I really liked the operational concepts. It gave me a lot of ideas for tabletop RPGs or even missions in Arma3... The game itself reminded me a lot of classic tactical board games like Spectre Miniatures! I bought it and recommend it because of its support. The tactical fun concept makes it more fun. I think that due to its simpler mechanics, other games could be more exciting! I hope to see a more polished second version.
This is the first Steam game I ever refunded. I like the art style and the ideas in this game but this is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ $3 iphone game charging you $15 ON SALE. The fact they want $20 not on sale is insane. The game lacks any sort of depth and applying any real world tactics does not even work. Your best bet is to zerg rush every building and hope your guys decide they want to put the effort into not missing a target thats 5 feet away from them. The ability to even give your dudes different guns would at least give some depth but I guess the developers couldnt even be ♥♥♥♥♥♥ into even doing that. This game simply is a lazy cash grab with no actually depth or anything to it.
i like this game i just wish there was more to it like gun customization
