Snake Logan is a top-secret operative for the CIA ordered to complete missions that others would regard as suicidal. One day, Snake is called into headquarters and briefed on a situation that has arisen in Metro City.
It seems that thousands of monster-like creatures are on a rampage of destruction through the city. Many thousands have already died, and Metro has declared martial law just before losing all communications. Right before the city was overrun, authorities received a message from a man calling himself Dr. Mangle. He stated that Metro is to be an example of what will happen to the rest of the world unless all factions of government comply with his wishes.
Snake is ordered to take a plane, fly recon over the city and then return. While circling over the area, he is suddenly attacked by some kind of laser weapon, and the plane loses engine power! He's forced to make an emergency landing and explore the ravaged city on foot. It's now up to Snake - and you! - to save any survivors, find the source of this destruction, and stop Dr. Mangle.

Bought this game back in December and never contributed a review, so it's about time! Great remaster overall of a DOS game I played back in the 1990s. Gameplay and graphical enhancements are spot-on. Episode 4 features many nicely crafted levels, elevators and a few references scattered here and there to some other older Apogee titles. I wonder how many people spotted the downed vorticon of Keen 2 in that heap in one of the levels. The level editor is another welcomed addition and certainly modeled after the Abiathar Editor which made level making quickly familiar. Totally minor but for the sake of being complete here I would mention that it would be nice to have the achievements available in-game and speedrunning stats for the bonus levels as well. So, highly recommended, and hopefully the developers will pick another game to remaster. There is quite a number of old DOS gems out there that need an HD version.
Top Remaster welches den Charme des Original erhält und es noch besser macht, durch bspw. Controller steuerung 16:9 auflösung und neuer Levels. Gerne mehr DOS Games als Remaster.
Amazing remaster. The original game is great and has lots of nostalgia points, but the real star of the show here is the new engine and the care and love put into making this game an amazingly fun side scrolling shoot-em-up.
Another remake of a classic DOS game from Appogee. BIO-Menace. I remember when I was kid when I found the shareware episode and thought “Hey, this has the same menu as Commander Keen 4”. Yeah, that was my core memory of this game from my childhood, my first experience to games using the same engine. But why would anyone buy this remaster if the game is freeware. 1: A new episode with some bonus levels. 2: A level editor to make your own levels. 3: Customisable UI and the option for the old graphics is always welcome . And 4: some major quality of life improvements. Speaking of those QOL improvements, they are pretty basic but they make the game more enjoyable. Unlimited lives. More health in normal mode. Some dead ends no longer being dead ends. But the most notable is being able to change your ammo and grenades. This alone improves the game since in the original, you can only use the strongest bullets and grenades til they run out. Now how was that a problem? The strongest grenades are landmines and they are more situational than the other grenades. Of course not everything was improved with the snake still having annoying projectiles or those electric ball shooters still shoot at random directions. And that’s about it. Not much to say about gameplay. Just explore levels looking for keys til you reach the end, kind of like Commander Keen only more shooting and some switch puzzles that the new episode is aware stopped appearing after episode 2. Speaking of episode 4, not much was added besides the well made levels. Just some new key types, two new bosses and used the bees from an Episode 2 trap into a normal enemy. Oh and a low gravity level I do want to talk about the odd tone this game has. At the start of Episode 1 had an opening level with several dead bodies lying in the streets. And the enemies are cute little purple slug things and green Barneys with mohawks. Then the next level has this oddly upbeat tune while you fight fire demons and the level after is a park and the OST for that is f-ing menacing. And while that’s just as an adult overthinking some minor detail that doesn’t matter and that was all over games of that time. Can I at least say how out of place Skullman was. Like all the enemies and bosses are these mutated animals and robots and then in the middle of episode 1, this giant blue demon who appears to collect bones shows up and dies with no explanation besides some graffiti. Still I’m just nitpicking at this point. This is a well made remaster and if you never played Biomenace before, play this version. 8/10
Perfect remaster that improves on the original. It's the best way to play Bio Menace. If you don't want any of the graphical or gameplay changes you can disable them to make it more faithful to the original. There is a bonus new episode that looks and plays great. More complicated than the original episodes, but still lots of fun. Would I recommend Bio Menace to someone who's never played it? If you enjoy other Apogee platformers then you will also like this. If you haven't played any they are slower than console platformers of the same console era, but still pretty fun. Kill the enemies, find the keycards and end the level.
About as perfect a remastering effort as you could possibly ask for. The new art is a perfect match to the original style, and swapping back and forth between original and remastered graphics makes it clear the developers understood the assignment. The rebalancing makes the game more approachable on the lower skills while preserving challenge on hard. The new episode has tons of new art, new mechanics and items, larger and more complex maps, and even some new enemies, making it some of the best work in the genre. Yet it still feels like it could have been an Ultimate Doom-style add-on created by old Apogee themselves. From a technical perspective also, this is fantastic; sure, it's a DOS game, but we've seen plenty of remasters that run shockingly poorly. But on both a Steam Deck and a secondary laptop with only Intel integrated graphics, 4K120 is no sweat here, and I didn't encounter a single crash or noticeable bug. These classic DOS platformers are a genre not quite like anything you get today, and this is both perfect nostalgia for those of us who were around in those days, and a great introduction to those who missed them. My only complaint would be that it isn't available on more platforms - Mac and console versions please, so I can even more easily recommend this to everyone I know!
Hratelnost zustala ,ovladaní vylepšeno (podpora x box ovladače) a vylepšená grafika
I really like this game. I never played it before in the 90s (although I owned a PC). Whoever likes retrogames should give Biomenace Remastered a try. The game save feature makes this game easier for casual gamers, as you can save and reload at difficult parts. Just finished the game. Episode 4 (the new one) is even better than the original episodes!
Damn fine remake of a great game, these devs made a damn fine product and you can tell they really care. Looking forward to more from these guys/gals, you’ve earned my $
