Many ideas in this game are quite good, especially being a free, fan-made game. However, the high difficulty of the game made them difficult to be appreciated, just like the beautiful background with references to different Holo Members in each stage, which there is no way to admire with such a amount of enemies and tricks, even in Normal difficulty.
The first couple of levels were good, but once you get to the waterwheels with terrible physics and moving platforms, it's pure cancer. Falling is instant death, and enemies spawn a split second before they hit you and knock you into the water, sometimes two or three at a time. It's bad enough just trying to use that janky waterwheel in the first place without all the other nonsense. I just don't know how a dev could ever look at a level like that and think it's fine. That's the sort of trash you have to fix before you release the game.
more difficult than one would expect
Famous MV in the form of a free to play, simple and short platformer. Not much I can say regarding anything about this game but you can they made it for passion and respect. The only thing that rubs me the wrong way is that for God's sake, you couldn't come up with a better name than that? Otherwise, its decent for giving that MV credit for its reputation.
The Good
Nice amount of content for a free game. I felt the level of challenge to be fun without being over baring. It felt nice having to feel out the mechanics a little. Controller support works well. I really liked the boss patterns.
Key Features that Need Redesigned
Every mechanic in a game is a decison by the developer to influence how the player interacts with the game. Some of the mechanics exist in a way that don't provide challenge or feel rewarding Magical Transformation: The standard state is one of a magical girl transformation where you have a long range slipper projectile like the one thrown in the music video, and a powerful short ranged summoned fist. As you use these powers you drain mana, which slowly regenerates. Upon depleting mana you exit the transformation, leaving you with a slow, low damage, short range boulder projectile, and instead of a magical fist, you merely strike a pose. The benefit to this state however is your mana regenerates far more quickly. It would feel better if the balance was that the regen speed was flipped, and the goal was to time you your slipper barrages to during openings in fights without expending all your mana, lest you lose your magical transformation for a time. Boss I-frame: Although I love the designs and patterns of the bosses, every time you strike them they flash and have around 1 to two seconds of i-frames. It really reduces the level of intensity of the boss fights when you have to pause for efficiency between every shot. I think a good solution would be A) give bosses only i-frame in select states if really needed and B) increase their health to compensate with for the increased DPS. With both of these fixes I'd be MUCH happier with this title while I have already enjoyed it in it's current state.
Overview
Great bite-sized platformer with gameplay drawing from classic Mario Bros. with a tasty little addition of bonus stages and boss content. As a little bite I enjoyed this and recommend, however if it were a full fledged production I couldn't due to some of the current design decisions.
I Recommend Plus it's free
