About
Beyond The Darkness is a dark story that will immerse you in childhood nightmares, even if you've managed to forget about them. Help the little girl Millie confront the horrors lurking in the darkness and find her missing family. You will find yourself in whimsical worlds of memories, distorted by fear and despair, and your only weapon will be the light of a little lamp...

Your only means of defense will be light. Don't let Millie's lamp go out; use it to illuminate your path, solve puzzles, and fend off otherworldly beings. But remember, the lamp's flame is not endless; spend too much, and you risk being forever engulfed in darkness!

In Beyond The Darkness, real monsters lie in wait for you, thirsting to destroy any glimmer of hope and drag Millie into the abyss of despair. Each of them is a reflection of childhood fears, ready to attack as soon as you turn away from them.

Embark on a perilous journey through fragments of memories. Find the key elements of each to reconstruct the chain of events and reach the truth, but remember that each of the worlds is more than it seems, and in their depths, true nightmares lurk.

Sometimes, memories are tangled and the answer is well-hidden. Help Millie with the puzzles and riddles she encounters. Finding the right solution can be very difficult, especially when you're just a scared child. And mistakes come at a high price... Just one fatal mistake is enough to make the light of hope disappear forever. Don't let it go out!

Beyond The Darkness, developed by My Little Studio and published by IndieGO Publishing, is a narrative-driven horror puzzle-platformer that focuses less on traditional scares and more on emotional tension, symbolism, and atmosphere. It places players in the role of Millie, a young girl navigating a distorted, dreamlike world in search of her missing family. From the beginning, the game establishes a tone that feels closer to a dark, melancholic fairytale than a conventional horror experience, using its setting and mechanics to explore themes of fear, memory, and vulnerability. The story unfolds gradually, relying on environmental storytelling and subtle visual cues rather than direct exposition. As you progress, the world reveals fragments of meaning through its design—objects, locations, and encounters all hint at deeper emotional layers beneath the surface. The narrative is intentionally abstract, leaving room for interpretation, which can make the experience feel personal and reflective. At the same time, this approach can lead to moments where the story feels unclear or disconnected, particularly for players who prefer a more structured and explicit narrative. Gameplay revolves around a combination of platforming and puzzle-solving, with a central mechanic built around light. Millie carries a small lamp that serves as both a guiding tool and a form of protection. Light is essential for navigating dark environments, activating certain elements, and keeping unseen threats at bay, but it is limited, creating a constant sense of tension. Managing this resource becomes a key part of the experience, as players must decide when to conserve it and when to use it to progress. This mechanic effectively reinforces the game’s themes, making light feel both comforting and fragile. The puzzles are closely tied to the environment, often requiring players to manipulate light, observe subtle details, or interact with objects in specific ways. While many of these challenges are thoughtfully designed and satisfying to solve, there are moments where the logic can feel unclear, leading to trial-and-error solutions. The game introduces its mechanics gradually, but it doesn’t always provide enough feedback, which can occasionally disrupt the flow and immersion. Atmosphere is where Beyond The Darkness truly stands out. The visual design combines stylized environments with a muted, almost painterly aesthetic, creating spaces that feel both beautiful and unsettling. Each area carries a distinct identity while maintaining a consistent sense of unease. The use of lighting and shadow is particularly effective, shaping how players perceive the world and guiding their attention. Sound design complements this with subtle ambient effects that build tension without relying heavily on sudden scares, resulting in a more sustained and psychological form of horror. Encounters with threats add another layer to the experience, though they are somewhat uneven in execution. While the presence of danger contributes to the overall tension, these moments can feel inconsistent, sometimes lacking the intensity needed to fully support the game’s horror elements. In certain situations, enemies function more as obstacles than as meaningful sources of fear, which can reduce their impact over time. The pacing of the game reflects its focus on atmosphere and narrative. It is a relatively short experience, which helps maintain its emotional weight without becoming repetitive. However, this brevity also means that some ideas and mechanics are not explored as deeply as they could be. The game introduces interesting concepts, but not all of them are developed to their full potential, leaving a sense that there was room for further expansion. Visually and audibly, the game maintains a cohesive presentation that reinforces its themes. The environments are carefully crafted, and the soundtrack supports the tone without overpowering it. Everything works together to create a consistent mood, making the world feel immersive despite its abstract nature. Ultimately, Beyond The Darkness is a game that prioritizes feeling over complexity. It offers a haunting and introspective journey that stands out through its use of light as both a gameplay mechanic and a symbolic element. While it has some rough edges in terms of puzzle clarity, pacing, and narrative cohesion, its atmosphere and emotional focus make it a memorable experience. It is best suited for players who appreciate slower, more reflective horror games that emphasize mood and interpretation over action. Rating: 8/10
Cute, quick, spooky, and fun. 10/10
Cool game, nice story and dark atmosphere, good puzzles
A nice little puzzle game that got ruined at the end for me when I saw those final pictures and they pretty much screamed AI generated for me. If they're not AI then my bad, but since there's no confirmation anywhere I'm gonna leave it here. Still give a thumb up because it was nice enough
