About
Twins Archer and Sam just want to relax after getting shipped off to stay with their eccentric uncle for the summer. Too bad for them the world is ending, and only they can stop it! The genre is point and click adventure, similar to the PC classics from the 80s and 90s! Keep reading for more info about the game's features and content!

Bent Oak Island was once a bustling tourist hot spot, until a fire burned through the town square and turned everything to cinders. With the destruction of the town center, tourism dried up, and with it the main source of income for the island. Now 15 years later, the island has moved on, but is a shell of it's former self. The future of the island seems bleak, and to make matters worse, an air of dread has settled on the islanders. Ned at the diner is barely able to make ends meet after the paper factory shut its doors. The Captain swears the fish he catches are talking about him behind his back. A strange, hairy creature has been sighted stalking through the forests of the nature preserve. And Ted from the University on the mainland has measured the beginnings of disturbing tectonic activity- vibrations in the ground. The same activity that happened 15 years ago on the night of the fire.
Will Archer and Sam unravel the secrets of Bent Oak Island in time to save themselves from certain doom? Will Uncle finally be able to muster up the courage to ask out the head librarian? Will the pie shop ever actually have any pie in stock for people to eat? Find out the answers to these burning questions and much more by playing the game!

-Bent Oak Island follows the gameplay of classic point-and-click adventure games. In each scene there will be things to look at and interact with, items to collect, NPCs to talk to, and puzzles to solve.
-Gorgeous hand created pixel art, somewhere between NES and SNES graphics. (Game does NOT use AI!)
-Explore the island with main characters Archer and Sam, twins who get wrapped up in the island’s mysteries.
-A fully fleshed out world with deep lore that the player learns throughout the game. What starts out as a simple adventure turns into something much wilder and weirder!
-100+ different scenes with locations ranging from mountain peaks, to underground lakes, from abandoned factories, to townie bars!
-Two main endings, with a third secret ending that requires numerous optional puzzles to be completed.
TLDR:
Bent Oak Island is a point and click adventure game. It is a full, stand alone-game that tells the story of twins Archer and Sam on their summer vacation. It features puzzles, inventory items, fun characters and loads of dialogue.

Another game that needs more reviews. I enjoyed this fun super pixelly point and click adventure. Teenage twins spend a vacation on their uncle’s island and mystery ensues. Playing this game reminded me a bit of Darkside Detective. The writing was funny and silly and in a good way. There are snippet conversations between the twins at every scene that should be checked out. There is a lot of lore and quirky characters to discover. In the beginning I was curious as the story doesn’t blow up from the beginning with a huge calamity or quest. It’s more of an exploration and then learning that all is not right and it grows from there. The game has 5 manual save slots, no auto save so remembering to save is good. There are no mini-games or stop the pace puzzles to solve. The game is talking, finding out what you need to progress, get those items and then move on to the next quests. I really had fun playing the game and my play time was 5 hours to get the most out of the dialogue and see all the endings. I recommend this game to point and click adventure fans.
A fun retro point and click adventure. The laid back vibe pairs well with the witty sarcastic sense of humor. The music is very catchy and was stuck in my head for days. I'm a sucker for anything 90s and loved the pop culture references and deep cuts. If you're looking for an easy going game to relax with, I highly recommend this!
A colorful point 'n click adventure game full of '90 references. Maybe a bit 'samy' as almost all characters want you to bring them some items but the dialog is whitty and humorous. Recommended. For my full review check the video. https://youtu.be/QdpVkOtXDuI?si=k2_U4lYojn51sXxo
Been enjoying the game the pixel art references and jokes have been great looking forward to finishing the game.
Pretty decent! It's not the best game I've ever played but I did enjoy it for what it was. I'm especially surprised I liked it since it's so clearly inspired by The Darkside Detective, which I didn't enjoy. The entire structure of more or less static scenes that you click through to use items on and having each chapter/case split up into small, self-contained sections is the same as in Darkside but I think the theming works better for me in Bent Oak Island. Also, the whole game having a big overall story gave me a sense that I was actually working towards something. The writing is serviceable. I did laugh at a few jokes, which is always nice. I could've done with less pop culture references but that's a me thing for sure. The plot just kinda happens but that's all fine. I enjoyed the semi-twist that happens and didn't expect some of it. The puzzles are mostly easy and if you're stuck, doing the whole "try everything on everything" works just fine because of how limited the areas are. For a fairly short afternoon playthrough, you can do a whole lot worse than this though. Anyone who liked The Darkside Detective should give this a look for sure. Even if you disliked that one like I did, there's still something worthwhile in Bent Oak Island.
great story, great puzzles, great music and i love the fact that in each chapter has different locations and also there are different goals. Highly recommended
"Bent Oak Island" is very rough, and not just around the edges. Limited animation and sound effects, a glitchy user interface, and loads of spelling mistakes prevent you from being completely absorbed by the story and its puzzles. And yet there is certainly some fun to be had, especially in the writing. The sibling chemistry is hilarious, and the multitude of silly NPCs are good for many laughs as well. And while the 80s-style graphics are not exactly to my personal tastes, I’m sure there are many old-school gamers who will appreciate its nostalgic charm. The story starts out all in innocent good fun, but eventually the stakes are dramatically raised, with lots more hanging in the balance, concluding with a somewhat fulfilling ending to five hours of breezy adventuring. A little more depth and some additional polish would have gone a long way, but even with its limitations, it’s made me start to miss having a sibling by my side, “enriching” my life by commenting on everything we see and do. Perhaps I’ll give my sister a call, and hope she’s not still mad about the shoe. https://adventuregamehotspot.com/review/1478/bent-oak-island
Bent Oak Island is a fun point and click game with well thought out puzzles and hilarious dialogue. This one definitely reminded me of why I keep coming back to these types of games. While simple in appearance and gameplay I still recommend giving this one a play through. Check out my full review here https://youtu.be/yjSHpqdCbNo?si=VU1jilfUSXim1_4d
The puzzles are entertaining but honestly the writing strongly needs an editor. It feels like the writer doesn't believe that the backspace key exists and just went off of a stream of consciousness. Most of the speech can be skipped, however there are occasionally clues that give away the puzzles sprinkled in. I enjoyed figuring out the first half of the game, but I found myself repeating, "GET ON WITH IT," as I waded through endless seemingly random nonsensical references. Once again, the game has fun puzzles, in the first half, and some interesting ones in the end, but the writing feels really off.
Cool Point n Click adventure game, with funny dialogues and nice soundtrack. Puzzles so far (I just reached Chapter 2) are quite straight forward for anyone with experience in the genre. I liked the Art style, which reminded me of old Monkey Island games, and I found the screen transitions to work great (as characters don't need to walk through the screens to move on to the next, you don't lose any time when you need to go from one place to another, something that has always bothered me in some games). As for improvement points, the UI could use a bit of more polishing (font could be a retro one, and the text boxes could be more in line with the game's art). And it'd also be cooler if there were more funny lines when picking "wrong choices" (using items in the wrong place, or trying to talk to inanimate objects, etc.).
