Played this in 2026 on keyboard and mouse, game is still amazing and I completely recommend the first 2/3rds of the game to everybody who loves platformers. The game has amazing atmosphere, the graphics is great and the bugs aren't that bad, most of the time, with some helping you. To be completely truthful though, I hope Sluggerfly never makes a moving platform level ever again. It was buggy as all hell, it was annoying to continue and it took around 3 hours total split into 2 different play sessions (Because the game crashes after spending too long on it) just to beat that single level. 30 out of the 180 minutes is getting to the 3rd checkpoint while the other 150 minutes was spent on the 3rd and 4th checkpoints and I didn't even get all the damn cans. I can excuse the guaranteed crash in the previous level that was never fixed despite being brought up on release but that conveyor level is just not good. What's even better is that when you watch other people 11 years ago play this same exact level, they don't have the same problems, the platform isn't nearly as fast, it doesn't fling them, the platforms don't stutter, Ed doesn't decide to throw himself forward somehow despite it completely breaking physics, which just makes everything even more confusing, I don't know if its my pc, or something else but it is taking the piss. To put that entire point as simple as possible, ♥♥♥♥ level 18 with my entire soul (on par with Super Meat Boy) On the note of not good levels, the last level was also annoying but specifically if you're trying to complete it without getting harmed. This could be considered ironic to say but it just felt like the level was spamming absolute ♥♥♥♥ the entire way through and would only be able to be gotten through using luck and hope. It didn't feel like there was an actual reliable method that you could use to get through that level simply because there were too many blades that travel at different intervals making it so confusing (which personally after everything you go through, surely you would want to see everything that you went through to get to the end like lasers and spiked walls rather than only swords and punching gloves and balls). Maybe it's my fault for doing my first attempt without losing limbs but I feel my statement still applies. The rest of the game is an ace. It can be difficult and can be annoying ,but its not too bad and if you have the determination, you can beat it and it's fun (Except level 18). The controls are great, the graphics are great, the atmosphere is great, everything is designed amazingly and my only problem with Ed is his lack of ability to grab onto a ledge. its not a big deal but I feel like if somebody is able to walk on both hands and jump around the same height they would with both their legs, surely they should have the physical capability to grab a ledge and pull themselves up right? Some of the bugs that are featured in the game (That I encountered) were: - Head gets cut off and flung into the stratosphere - Cannons would not be accurate (Helpful) - Level 17 had a guaranteed crash on some of the buttons - Ed would sometimes get himself stuck in a position (He couldn't get up but was ragdolled permanently, could only reset, might not be a bug) - Ed could occasionally phase through moving objects - You could land and be perfectly fine and then shatter 2 seconds later - The boss could crush you and your parts would pass through their hitbox - Sometimes on level 22 the acid would kill you as you respawned Keep in mind that these bugs are extremely uncommon and most don't hinder your playing. Despite all my negative comments on the levels, the game is really good and I truly do recommend people get it despite being 11 years late because it still stacks up and is still fun to play to this day and the concept of a parkour where some of your limbs are cut off but you can still survive has not been profited off of to this day except for Ben and Ed (to my knowledge).
I remember how I used to watch back in 2018 videos of how YouTubers play it and I've been wanting this game ever since. Now that I've bought it, I really don't regret it and am happy with it. With time the levels gets harder and harder, some are frustraiting, others are easier. The game lets you rest between levels giving time-to-time easier ones. Overall the levels, as said, are both fun and annoying, but so far all levels are beatable if you spend enough time on them. Patience is the key. In some places the controls are a bit off, not sure if it is a bug or no, but beside it I don't really have complains about it.
its a very good game but Ed is such a fat ♥♥♥♥ sometimes
