This is a soft negative. Maybe I missed something but for 3 hours I found myself still having to manually target enemies (and manually clean up their parts as they go away if you die before collecting them, and you die a lot); and spending more time replaying past levels to farm more upgrades so you can even attempt the new tier(s). The progression to me felt too slow for a game like this, I do not want to unlock a new area/tier to then have to farm the last one for 15 runs before you can attempt it. I think there is a fun game, I dont want to keep replaying old levels to find it. I also found it a bit disappointing that the music didnt really line up with the game. I expected the music to be a bit more interactive with the gameplay for a beat/music game
I have to agree with other reviewers that the game feels like it was designed on the best way to inconvenience the player and then work out the best way for them to not get so annoyed with the game due to the small things like a miss chance, resources disappearing, and life drain happening in the levels. Once you get passed those, the game throws out more enemies then you can shoot at in a successful bid to zerg and overwhelm the player.
Overall, I'd say this game is ... fine. The visuals are flashy (in a good way) and the music is calm yet dynamic. The mid-game is the most interesting and where upgrades feel most meaningful. Early-game is a bit slow, with a few upgrades added for the sake of being upgrades. The late-game is quite satisfying, however it feels that the game has too many systems that a lot of them become redundant. Also, how good the gameplay feels completely depends on whether you got a few key upgrades. The game is decent, so you could give it a try, but there are also more well-balanced incremental games out there that may provide a better experience.
Its an incremental game with excellent pacing and progression. Every resource remains relevant throughout the game, which makes upgrading feel consistently rewarding. There are four main resources, each with its own “world” where you farm them. Early on, progression is straightforward, but later you’ll need to revisit earlier worlds and grind more deliberately. I recommend pushing to the next level as far as you can and focusing on horizontal upgrades, while upgrading vertically when you need more survivability. Toward the end, three additional resources become important: light-blue notes, white G-clefs, and yellow plus signs. Yellow plus signs are earned automatically through leveling (by gathering other resources). G-clefs are used exclusively to upgrade the crafting of light-blue notes. The light-blue notes themselves are crafted by combining the four main resources. Spoiler:
Late in the game, you unlock an upgrade on the left side that increases resource gain based on how many light-blue notes you’re holding. Once you get this, farming the other resources becomes trivial.
The final boss is somewhat annoying and almost crashed the game. Make sure to equip piercing and kill the two orbs almost simultaneously. Pro tip: Turn off screen shake once you reach level 8 in the worlds. Overall, an excellent incremental experience that stands out in the genre. 10/10
