I want to recommend this game because I think the fact that one single guy made it is amazing, but there are far too many shortcomings. If there were a neutral I would pick that. The description promises unique skills for monsters, but unfortunately the skills are all pretty similar and there aren’t many in the game. There is zero motivation to level up monsters, but rather just get new ones in each area, and once you get to the legendary monster point in the game you are overpowered and can just run to end game. There is a lot of grinding and the game plays very slow, and I don’t mind this if the rewards are there but they just aren’t. The maps are boring and its’ basically the same 5-10 monster models running around in circles across all of them, one in each area that may or may not reflect the battle itself. Good loot is hard to come by. The dialogue is excruciatingly slow and cannot be skipped. There are just a ton of improvements that could have been made. It’s not a bad game, but I can’t say it’s good. I’d go for something else.

As it stands right now, it is worth the $10, but not much more. The gameplay is fun! It's really kind of my weakness. Monster collector, grid-based combat, and an interesting story. There are really only three major downfalls. 1) This game is pretty short. I have 22 hours in it, I got all the achievements in two plays through, and I even did some significant grinding the first run through since I turned on perma-death mode. I didn't want to lose any of my monsters! This leads directly into the next downfall. 2) There is very little replayability. I've done my two runs, now I feel like this game will sit in my library indefinitely. It's a bummer, because I really would love to play more. Maybe a sequel? Please? And 3) Once the game is over, it's over. You get the best monsters toward the end of the game, and you start to feel really powerful, then BAM! Game's over. You don't get to play with those monsters anymore. I would love to see a sequel that solves these issues: longer story, more reasons to play multiple times, and post-game play. With that being said, this is definitely worth the price, and if you can catch it on sale, that's an even better reason to pick it up.

Pros: - nice story - creature design and leveling - spell system - crafting system - UI/UX which means that developers actually played games releases in last 30 years Cons: - level cap is reached in mid of game - game is in my opinion too easy but bear in mind I have 10+ years of Heroes of Might and Magic 3 playtime - world feels empty - "adventure map" should display monsters differently like in King's Bounty games Final conslusion is positive and I recommend paying and playing this game. This is no AAA title so cons can be forgiven and is created by small team and they've done very good job.
One of the underrated games! Turn base tactical-capturing RPG. +Monsters variation +Good combat and looting system +Good Story +adequate side quests +Enjoyable capturing, gadering and level up system - Bad Graphics If you enjoy,HOMM,King's Bounty and Disciples style games.Worth the try: 8 out of 10
So it's basically Pokemon as a Grid-Based Combat game. It is pretty bare bones and maybe needs some extra features like a Beast Index to see what Beasts are still missing. Everything is somewhat okay, from character design to music, but nothing really stands out. The combat itself is probably the highlight and it is alright, I just wish the level cap wasn't so low (level 20). You can have up to 7 beasts, but you really want some tank types wich take 2 spaces of those 7. The story is okay, but nothing special. Pretty much a low to mid-tier game, very enjoyable if you like the Pokemon collection thing, but don't expect a masterpiece. Time to finish the game +all side quests and catching almost all beasts: 26,3 hours
Here is some gameplay so you can decide for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrQ2DEVxANw Here are my opinions: PROS: + great concept capturing monsters and fighting with them. An under-tapped market + decent plot. could be better, but have seen much worse + this whole game was created by 1 person alone + team size is decent. wish it was a little bigger, but overall it's fair + pretty easy to pickup and understand the game. traditional RPG aspects, easy tutorial (which you are allowed to skip) + graphics are nice. some nice subtle touches that are impressive from a 1 dev game. CONS: - some of the areas, like the town, are kind of annoyingly large for no reason - no mini-map, so you're constantly running around and tapping M - requires 2 gameplay runs to get 100% achievements - not a large selection of monsters (total 64), where quite a few are just different versions of the game - very few monster skills. it's about the same 5-6 skills over and over from monster to monster - monsters level very slowly, and require a grind-fest (edit: the dev added a way to feed monsters to other monsters to speed it up. now it's pretty close to fair until last few levels) Overall I enjoy this game so far. Not sure if I would play it twice to get a couple extra achievements. I really hope the dev makes a BeastMancer 2, using some of the feedback he has received.
