Another fine-tuned and highly polished effort from the International Cricket Captain team. Improved gameplay and graphics make this an excellent value-for-money buy. The addition of Afghanistan and Ireland to the international career mode allows one to captain either side to Test match, one day and Twenty20 glory. Domestic leagues from most of the major test playing nations are covered too. If you love bats, stats and sports simulation, you will adore Cricket Captain 2018. One small gripe, there's still no female spectators in the crowd. How's a guy meant to bowl a maiden over? Recommended.
I spent 30 minutes deciding the best Australian XI of all time, Ended up getting Bradman an average of 100. Games really fun and a lot cleaner and improved from 2017. The only bug I had was in career it didn't let me select "no 20 over side" but I went back and then reselected it and it worked
I've owned three iterations off CC, spaced about four years apart. In those 7-8 years I've found CC to be one of the most frustrating games I've ever played. I would love to have a decent Cricket management game, and hence keep coming back every 3 or 4 years to try out CC, only to be dissapointed all over again. It feels like it wouldn't take too much to make this a great game, however it is clear to me now that the devs are unwilling to make the required changes. In short, if your lifes dream is to place fields in cricket matches, and you can put up with a narrow highly repetitive scope for decision making, this is the game for you. For everyone else, who perhaps would like to be able to burn through a season in under 20 hours of game play time without losing mysteriously to teams rated 1 star or more lower than your own every other game, or who would like more focus on team dynamics, or want to really work on player development in a refined way, or any other of a bunch of things that would make this game better, stay away.
I'm sorry, I really wanted to like this game but ultimately it is repetitive and unrewarding. Nothing about the game is atrocious, but nothing is exceptional either and the sum total is a bit limp. To try to be constructive, Easy mode should be easy, not really hard. I appreciate that real life can throw up unusual results but I just became sick and tired of draws and loses to manifestly inferior opposition. I think I noticed a mild improvement in performance by playing ball-by-ball and mixing up the play. If so, this is a mistake. The casual player doesn't want to pour hours into a single match. Likewise, I was irritated by the warning that skipping a game would result in loss in performance. What's the point of that? To punish me for being insufficiently enthusiastic and for not playing it the way it 'should' be played? I'm the customer, get over yourselves. I realise it is a compromise in the balance between playability and realism, but stats for players along the lines of Football Manager would be an improvement. You develop an emotional investment in young players you've nurtured, you can make informed decisions regarding transfers and more easily analyse the opposition. The user interface isn't confusing, but it's not that friendly either. I too often tried to pick a player who was 20-overs-only or the reserve foreign player. The notion of coaching a set number of players seems odd. Surely professional players all train, all the time? The rewards for training are opaque (because you have no stats!). The idea of representing form as five stars seems imprecise, especially with all-rounders when I wasn't clear whether it represented one discipline or both. The commentary is very good, there's a good range of phrases and comments such that it doesn't grate and become overly repetitious. I enjoyed the option to pick an all-star team and replay some classic tests, but taken in the round it's not enough to recommend the game. It feels like some very dedicated people have put a lot into this (which is a rare thing in itself), but I hope they'll forgive me in saying that as ardent fans they are perhaps a bit too close to the detail and they've made the game a bit boring.
I've only played T20 and found the key differance between being all out for <100 in 12 overs and finishing 20 overs at 200+ with wickets left is utterly random luck as both results can be obtained starting from the same save and making the same selections. So either my choices are meanigless or making the right choices can still lead to utter failure, either way the result is out of my hands. Cricket Spectator would be more accurate title .
I've bought several editions of Cricket Captain over the years. Always hoping that they finally make a decent game. Went for the 2018 edition on the basis that they must have got something right by going for so long. But no. I cannot understand how this game has survived for so long being so terrible. The user interface is like something out of the 1990's, and it hasn't been updated since I last obught the game in 2014, and whilst operable, is really not very user friendly and painful to use at times- I wonder if they do any user testing at all. But the big problem is the match engine. It is completely impossible to control your players in match and it spits out some ridiculous results in one day and t20. For eample chasing a target of 228 in a 50 over game with batsmen on max aggression they scored 176-1 after 50 overs, with overs ticking by as maidens, with the odd single and no ball being the only notable events. Completely pointless and I won't play, or buy, again.
Aweful. Ive spent hours trying to figure out how to improve but this game makes absolutly random decision that ruin the game. The is no training to teach you how to play the game and even with a fairly decent knowledge of the game it throws it back in your face not allowing you to have any fun. Unless this game gets a major update and a complete rehaul to team progression and adding the ability to actully know how to win a match only then I would think about recomending this game. Definitely dont pay 25 NZD for this game. The sad thing is i actually wanted to like it, but instead it continues the tread of aweful cricket games. 2/10.
Since august 2018 with the one of the two updates that month. Cricket Captain has been constantly freezing or in other words not responding after I select the to play the next match or select to bat and bowl after the toss. I want this issue fixed quickly it is impariring my enjoyment. Bring out another update to clear these bugs for good. Two updates ago is when this issue started for me
I love cricket. I've played it for years, I've umpired it for years, and I've followed it my whole life. This is a game created by people who do not understand cricket. Sensible cricket tactics don't work. Batsmen somehow play impossible shots. In my first match I had a team chase down 400 for the loss of only 4 wickets on a last day pitch that supposedly had uneven bounce and sharp turn. Seriously, if you know anything about cricket you would know that would be the GREATEST RESULT IN THE HISTORY OF THE GAME. Clearly, the developers know nothing. The game is a joke.
This game is so poorly done. No individual player stats, tempo means very little with defencive batting tactics leading to pull shots played to yorkers, the opposition score 500-600 runs frequently no matter the bowling tactics or strength. First few hours were interesting but after two or three campaigns you realise it just doesn't matter what you do. Very cheap animations. Could have been really good with more work but its certainly not worth the money.
