Battles of the Ancient World

Easy to play hex based game. You don't have to spend time to 'build your empire'. Just straight into battle.

Es un juego de estrategia muy al uso de la compañía Hexwar, pero tiene el aliciente de la época y de la variedad de batallas. A nivel táctico es, dentro de su sencillez, apasionante. La recreación histórica de las distintas batallas está bastante conseguida. Muy divertido mover a los egipcios. Evidentemente el incoveniente es que sólo se puede jugar contra la IA y es una auténtica lástima no poder enfrentarse a rivales humanos. Aún así, merece la pena y es un juego que para lo que cuesta, dará muchas horas de entretenimiento y nos obliga a pensar en cada movimiento.

A very good "lite" wargame, cast very much in the same mold as HexWar's Civil War and WWII armor games. There is a much greater variety of units in BotAW than in the other games, however. This is a good thing, as it eliminates some of the "sameness" of units found in the Civil War games. The downside to this game is that there aren't nearly as many scenarios as in the other games, so you are much more likely to "play this game out" compared to the Civil War games. A game editor would solve that problem nicely (or, hopefully, the developer will release additional free scenarios as they did with their other games in this series).

No progression system or ongoing story. Just separate battles that don't tie together at all. Probably good if you're really into this type of strategy game or you're a history buff. Otherwise, it doesn't offer much.

Skirmishers are a little too effective and inspire some ahistorical tactics, but a good if simple game. Many scenarios, not all balanced, bur most are interesting.

An enjoyable, but rather "lite" wargame.

Quereis recrear las batallas más importantes de la antiguedad? Pues en este juego podremos participar en Cannae, Arbela (Gaugamela), Teutoburgo y unas pocas más. En el apartado gráfico no destaca hay que decirlo, pero en un juego de estrategia por turnos y hexagonos si podemos diferenciar un hoplita de un arquero o de un jinete pues ya cumple con su proposito. En las batallas se mantiene la tensión del desenlace aunque me ha parecido un pelín fácil el vencer en dificultad media, pero si quereis más incertidumbre y más desafio siempre podreis subir la dificultad. Para mi recomendable para los que disfruten de la estrategia por turnos.

Not a bad game, but it's not going to beat Field of Glory 2 which is probably the standard now
