Battlefield 4 has always been a cornerstone in FPS gaming, but this port to Steam had game-breaking issues that question whether or not it is even worth playing for PC. As such, while I recommend playing this game in general, I cannot recommend it for Steam. I would recommend playing Battlefield 4 on console, assuming the following glitches and bugs were not added in newer updates of the game. SPOILERS: For the campaign, in the mission that requires you to swim through a mass of water, the water pushes the player back to the point where progressing through the mission is unplayable. Without consulting various online guides or waiting a ridiculously large amount of time to progress through the mission, it is impossible to even move forward through the small part of this mission. Even after doing so, the solutions were to: 1. Bind the look keys to the keyboard in order to wiggle through the water, which looks exactly like how someone would swim through molasses, and would usually still push the player back to the beginning of the underwater portion. 2. Change to a lower resolution and refresh rate, which makes the game look horrible. and the most effective: 3. Pause and unpause the game after every 5 seconds or so when the player swims to an invisible wall, presumably because the game needs to load in the next section of the map. and even after doing a combination of the 3 methods, I also had to find some random combination to swim sideways at some points just so the player would move forwards. What was a simple 30 second to 1 minute section took 30 minutes minimum because of the constant swimming and being pushed back by the current. The most frustrating part is that when reading through the Battlefield forums, apparently this glitch was added in after the release somehow with a newer update. Battlefield is a storied franchise and the campaign had many enjoyable aspects otherwise, such as the way enemy AI actually took over MG emplacements to replace the ones that were killed. However, with how long Battlefield 4 is out and how much EA makes off of this franchise, it is disappointing to see the lack of attention to detail to maintain a game that so many people love.
