Simple mechanics, but really fun! Wii Tanks, modernized with a lot of polish. Levels are fun, the boss battles are great, the overworlds are gorgeous and SFX when killing stuff is so satisfying.
Main gameplay takes place in closed arenas. Your objective is to avoid enemy bullets and destroy every tank. The main catch is that bullets ricochet off of walls, so you have to pay attention while the battle is going on. The fact that you can only withstand one hit doesn’t help. However, there is friendly fire and bullets can be destroyed, therefore it is nothing unusual for enemies to kill one another in crowded arenas. The action is pretty basic because you don’t have a lot to work with. The cannon can fire multiple shots in rapid succession before overheating, but if you play it correctly, there shouldn't be a problem because the cool down is fast. There is only one additional weapon, a landmine, which has proven to be quite effective because it may be thrown over a wall or used to demolish certain barriers. There are six distinct worlds in the game. You must play them in order because of the linear progression. The most intriguing aspect of each world is that you can drive your tank around and choose which missions to undertake. This turns out to be a nice addition since it gives you a sense of belonging to something bigger. Yet you don't have a lot of freedom in worlds. The missions are close together, and there are obstacles in your path that disappear once you have earned enough stars. It's still largely linear and not particularly rewarding, despite the fact that there are hidden missions and shortcuts that encourage exploration. Thankfully, you don't have to complete everything in order to complete a world. Stars are earned by completing stages and bonus objectives. Since there’s not a lot you can do with limited mechanics, secondary objectives involve tasks such as completing a mission within a time limit, minimum shots allowed, no use of landmines etc. They can be a bit too repetitive. Since they don't have to be finished all at once, you can always go back and focus just on the ones you missed. You can even go back to the home bunker and immediately jump to any unlocked level if you forget where it is. There is good variety. While some missions may have a similar layout but different placements and objectives, the majority are usually quite diverse. Given that the game features more than 200 stages, this accomplishment is impressive. Tanks make up the opposition, which is not surprising. You have a standard tank, a tank that can lay mines, a tank that can shoot quick missiles, and many others. Also, a world has a boss battle that becomes more dangerous and deadly with each health bar you destroy. These battles are tough because they can swiftly turn into a bullet-hell. There are three different levels of difficulty to suit every gamer. Casual gamers should choose the easiest difficulty level, which offers endless lives and no lost progression; however, those who want to experience pain should select the hardest option, which deletes your save file once all lives have been lost.
Pretty cool game! Gameplay is simple but challenging, and the graphics are great! I played solo so can't speak for the co-op part, but definitely looking forward to give it a go when given the chance.
Very fun casual game Plenty of variety in terms of the levels I've played thus far, and the challenges seem well designed so far. Having custom level tools is also a huge plus. I am not the biggest fan of boss levels where the enemy takes several dozen shots while you die after one, but luckily these are in the minority of levels, and the creators are very receptive to feedback so if you run into bugs or serious gameplay issues, they will at least hear you out.
Battle tracks is an intense, hectic, and at times even frustrating (in a good way!) tank 'em up game with crisp graphics, snappy controls and really solid gameplay. So far I'm about 5 hours in and have completed the first 3 zones, each of which has many levels in it. The levels are small, confined spaces with specific tasks to achieve in order to get maximum stars, so each one is quite a different and unique challenge. The challenges really help to give variety to the game, forcing you to think about how you approach each level, then testing your skills as you set about clearing the enemies. This is top notch indie-game making - a fabulous looking product which plays great and gives plenty of those old-school adrenaline rushes that keep you engaged. Definitely one to get!
Very fun game.
Tanks, with an added level of difficulty if you're terrible at bullet hell games like me. worth a try.
Very fun, cute game
A fresh take on a classic. So much variety and unique design around a simple premise makes it just as much a puzzle game as a top-down shooter.
If you liked Tanks! from Wii Play, you will more than likely enjoy this game. Checking the over world for secrets is nice between stages. This unlocks cosmetics. You are able to play the campaign in 2 player mode or up to 4 players in the death match style mode. There's also an option for using Crowd Control which lets other people cause mayhem or help. Some examples include disable bouncing for bullets, bullets go through walls, and make all tanks big. This is mainly used for streaming, but you could just do a smaller group on Discord with some friends if you wanted. The game recently added a rogue-like mode for people wanting more of a challenge.
