It took 2,000 years for someone to make chess better! The most challenging game on earth comes to life in Battle Chess. An entire medieval world at war is reflected on the checkered field. Everyone who's ever had a knight take a pawn has seen that capture as more than one piece replacing another on the board.

This would be a decent chess game if it didn't crash so much. The game does many things very well, especially the graphics and battle animations. The chess engine is OK though not the best. I managed to get decent positions a few times on the highest difficulty level before it crashed or I gave up due to how long the AI takes to move. I wonder if it would have been better to just plug Stockfish into the game instead of creating a custom engine. Play Magnus on my iPod touch is stronger and faster than this game. If you want to play some Chess, the best option is probably the completely free Lichess website.
it really hurts that I have to give this review because I really wanted to like it. However, it is just not there. While I did find some of the game play enjoyable. for instance, the AI is definitely no rookie. The game simply does not operate like normal chess. The king can move multiple spaces, something I never saw before in a game. There is virtually no multi-player (dead community) Plus the animations are more annoying then fun since they are repetitive and take up your time. While I praise the developers for upgrading the graphics from its 1988 original, there is simply no excuse for leaving it a buggy mess with barley entry level AI in 2024 and pricing it has high as 30$ this game would be acceptable at a 15$ or less. Hard pass and refund.

best chess i ever played
Something different
realistic monarch
Would not really recommend except as a gimmick. The animations are fun. They would get repetitive, but you won't be playing this game often enough for that to happen, I think. Main reason is that as a chess engine, it just is not very good, you probably won't learn much about chess from it. Still, if you want to see a rook bash in the head of a pawn and you can get BC:GoK for no more than 2 dollars or so, why not, it's a good giggle.
fun
It's Battle Chess
I've finally purchased a pc that can handle this program without locking up. B.C. adds a lot of fun to the game. But need a fast pc to run it. I really like the graphics and sound. I think this program would appeal more to a younger person than some seriously old experienced chess expert. Just my humble opinion.
Game is always crashing.
