The game itself is fine, and for what it does lots, it does well. My only issue with the game is that the story mode is really hard and the dev is kinda tonedeaf. I thought it was a tycoon game, but it's actually a side-scroller strategy, as if Age of Empires was ported to Terraria. It's just not what I expected out of a management sim. I've failed every single story mission multiple times. This is not because I'm bad at strategy games, but because there is key information that you MUST build your base around to accomodate. Half of this information is not given until it's much too late, meaning that reloading an earlier save may actually be a part of the core gameplay loop. I wouldn't mind this, but I'd have to be in a very specific mood to play Basement. So, why the bad review? A single tutorial pop-up that I saw in the 3rd mission. There's one pop-up that's just a few tips and tricks about the game. It implicitly tells you that if you don't optimise your bases for the mission constraints (which you won't have yet), you are wasting money and you are playing the game wrong, implying a "get gud" mindset. I'm not going to play the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game if the dev fails to hand me information, and then blames me for the mission failure by telling me that it's my fault. That's all. The game's fairly fun otherwise, it's done well. There's a couple of bugs with the audio adjustment that forces you to re-enter the settings to apply every mission, but once you figure that out, it's fairly robust.
“Basement is a strategy game” - no, it is not. Basement is a horrible mess of a game that doesn’t know what it wants to be.

Humor/plot/writing. Do you like immature, flat humor that overly relies on dated pop-culture references and is completely unfunny? I don’t think you do, so all of the writing in the game will cause nothing but a “oh god why” reaction.
Management. Ok, so you hire people to do different tasks, you fire some people because you overhired one type of workers - and you restart your mission, because only in this game costs scale not with your current workers, but with total hired workers. Loose a bit too much in combat, change a bit too much staff - and your next hire will cost more money than you have space for and will ask for daily wages bigger than all of your other staff combined.
Building. While the system is basic, it is the only part of the game that does not break and works adequately - and I am specifically pointing this out so you understand, that if “basic” is the best thing you can get here - everything else is just way, way worse.
Combat. So you gave a few guns to your people and sent them to fight - good job, the AI will not use any ranged weapon if they are too close to the enemy, they start in the doors that are always guarded and they are unable to walk away to use their guns. Also each combat must be heavily micro’d with healing drugs so you don’t lose anyone - it is unfun and extremely clunky.
Technical issues. Hard crashes, mission softlocks, script breaks, save corruptions - I had them all. The game is barely working despite being extremely simple with no complex mechanics.
For this game to be at least passable it should have been patched and had its price halved - but we are getting neither, so it is not worth trying. A hard pass.
Interesting concept but it is buggy, I cant even change the resolution in options. Hit boxes arent accurate and I need to fluff around to get the workers to do something as simple as going to a room sometimes. It is not the most intuitive UI out there. There are definite issues with balancing, things that could have been fixed if the developer stayed onboard but sadly the game is now abandoned. TLDR; great concept, buggy and balanced execution, abandoned before everything was sorted. Not recommended. 3/10.
games kinda ass bro
This is one of those games with a lot of potential but wasted by rehashing ideas instead of expanding systems in the game. Everything it does is very minimal from management, combat, economy, and the campaign itself. The campaign is probably the worst part of this because it plays out like a puzzle with a timer rather than something you can figure out from multiple approaches. The timer makes it worse because there is no pause button and in many missions that timer is very tight. Every product is just the previous product but sells for more and is more expensive to set up. When you unlock different classes of hires some of them are actually useless because of their stats compared to the older hires. Going back to the campaign, the story is just bad even for a video game plot.
I can't say this game is fun. I wanted to like it. I wanted to complete it 100%, but this game is impossible to play. The levels are way to hard with the RNG and they have long intro sequences that can't be skipped. You'll end up playing the same level 50 times and having to sit through the 5+ minute intro sequence every time you have to restart. This game is to painful to play and not enjoyable at all once you get to level 4 and above. Maybe free play is better? I don't know. I'm not willing to stick with this game long enough to find out. If I can't finish story mode then what's the reason to continue playing? I probably won't play again unless they make some changes, but it seems they haven't updated in a long time so I doubt that's going to happen.
got boring quite quickly unfortunately, but besides that it was fun
Not fun.
game looked like fun but as soon as i changed resolution to my desired res it went way to small to play but thats where it made it un playable could not change resolution back in game or forced through properties
I bought the game while it was still in early access. Between then and the full release I don't think I've seen any real gameplay changes. They got their fundamentals down and then just, only focused on the story mode. The gameplay feels like it is missing something. Having said that, it is fun. But this is not a game worth $20. And to top it all off, after hitting the full release, the Devs promptly abandoned the game. I'd recommend grabbing it on sale if you're dead set on playing it. Otherwise, just skip the game.
