A walking sim/locked in a room game where inexperience and inconsistencies are obvious. Because it appears unfinished, an early access tag would be more suitable. The characters in the introduction are stiff, and they’re either just standing or using basic movements. You also don't get anything that will entice you to dive into the story. You're simply some kidnapped person who wakes up and needs to get away. On the other hand, we play these games because we are intrigued by the mystery and know knowing what is going on. While the voice over is only available in French and cannot be changed, the game can be played in either English or German. Surprisingly, the German language does not work. Everything in the game, including the menu, is still in English. Perhaps this only works with subtitles, which I haven't tried because the default doesn't work well. The problem is that subtitles display both English and French subtitles simultaneously. Because you're merely going around and interacting with stuff, the controls are simple. Given that the engine is designed for first-person shooters, you can also jump, run, and crouch. However, the controls have a weird default setting. Even basic movement is all messed up because left and right is stuck to buttons D and Q. If you try to change them, you will have to do it again the next time you start a game because settings reset. Interaction should’ve been done better. The tiny circle in the middle of the screen barely changes when you point it at something interesting. Fortunately, you know what to look for in most cases. The basic gameplay is searching rooms for a key, code, or other item that will open the next door. Because there are no waypoints or feedback, you must be thorough and keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary. Huge rooms and very small things don’t make a good combo. The optimization is all over the place, which is a common problem with games like this. Much relies on how comfortable you are with the game's engine, because just shifting objects about and ignoring gameplay is a common mistake. When you consider how much space the game consumes on your hard disk, the graphics are inconsistent and not very impressive. The rooms are large and have minimal furniture. It makes things feel a little empty and too flawless for my liking. To run this without the persistent red error message warning you that you've used up all your resources, you'll need a beast of a computer. Even on the lowest level, my rig came up with issues. Furthermore, playing on anything other than ultra or high is not fun. If you use the lower settings, you will see blurry and low-quality textures throughout the game. This also indicates that not all assets are of the same quality. I had two books on the table, for example. However, whereas one was a blurry mess, the other had a plainly readable title. Saving is automatic, but you never know when that happens. Moving to a new stage does not mean that your game is saved. I realized this the hard way when I clicked continue and appeared in the previous stage. And finally, the game is overpriced. It’s hard to tell how much is custom made and what was borrowed as free asset. The gameplay loop is just searching for tiny things in huge rooms.
I recently had the opportunity to experience Barrett Foster - Chapter One, and I must say that this puzzle game exceeded all my expectations. From the very beginning, I was captivated by the beautifully designed environments that traced history through time, from the era of the Mayans to the Renaissance, and through Asia and Egypt. It felt like traveling through time while solving complex puzzles. One of the things that impressed me the most was the visual quality of the game. The graphics were breathtaking, with meticulous details and landscapes that transported me to each era. I was impressed by how they were linked to each time period and how they contributed to the overall story of the game. Each puzzle required strategic and logical thinking, as well as an understanding of the culture and customs of the time. This added an educational dimension to the experience, which was truly enriching. Furthermore, I found the story of the game to be well-crafted and immersive. Each era was presented with care, featuring environments such as paintings or sculptures that added depth to the adventure. I enjoyed how the story unfolded as I progressed through the puzzles, giving me additional motivation to continue exploring and solving the challenges that came my way. Finally, I would like to highlight the game's soundtrack. It perfectly complemented the gameplay, creating an immersive and emotional atmosphere. Get ready to embark on an extraordinary adventure and challenge your mind with the mysteries of history!
This game is so hard without clue!!!!! There's a lot of bugs in inventory. I cannot pass some puzzle without Google/AI helping. I just like a detailed of Graphic 4/10
