About
Bare Knuckle Sandwich is a 2D boxing game featuring side-scrolling storytelling and a character driven narrative. Follow Gunner as he joins an underground bare-knuckle boxing ring looking for something to strive for in a world full of con-artists, grifters, and people just trying to get by. After meeting a new mentor, Gunner begins to find his footing after a rough start to adulthood. However, it's a long way to the top and he'll have to overcome everyone standing in his way to succeed, especially himself.
Enter the ring and fight unique opponents, each with their own fight style and tricks up their sleeves. Fight your way up the ladder of victory and make a name for yourself amongst the best fighters the city has to offer. Master quick reactions, precise dodging, and devastating strikes to send your opponents reeling.
Experience Gunner’s personal journey of early adulthood through hand-crafted dialogue and cutscenes. Between fights, explore the city and mingle with the locals. Meet a variety of interesting people and help Gunner make a friend or two. His rise to the top will also attract brutal enemies.
Training to be the best bare-knuckle boxer around takes a lot of time, but it doesn't pay the bills. Perform a variety of side hustles to earn some extra cash.
Bare Knuckle Sandwich features music by the artist Torture World setting the atmosphere during exploration, fights, and cutscenes.

I had a dude tell me that if I didn't have **** stains after leg day, that I'm not lifting hard enough. Try the game. Get your own **** stains. This feels like a game developed by gamers, and man it works. The writing is clever, the environment is immersive from the start, and the music BANGS. I did not anticipate this much depth for a 2D scroller. The pacing of the game is exceptional. There's just enough backstory in the start to really paint the picture of Gunner's situation, but it doesn't waste time before it throws you into the ring. It's impressive that within the first 30 minutes, you understand the character's motives, get to interact with others on the streets and have your first fight. The fighting is the meat and potatoes of the game, and it really shines. The controls are so simple that you're allowed to focus on the character design while you react to your opponent's punches. The dialog between fight stages is great, you really feel like you're talking ****. The fights are crisp, and the sound design is stellar. It feels SO rewarding to land that perfect counter punch. Outside of fights, the streets feel alive and interacting with others showcases the great writing. There's enough content with this, and the engaging minigames that don't make you feel like you're just killing time before your next fight. All in all, there's a lot of game here from what appears to be just a 2D scroller. Highly recommend.
First part of the game: https://youtu.be/6pwgDA7VGgY Second half: https://youtu.be/oqi4sGyzs94 Final fight/ending/Arcade mode: https://youtu.be/xUQxUgeImxs Bare Knuckle Sandwich sent me down a roller coaster of emotions. While the story isn't particularly deep, there's enough going on that we do see the life of our character being played out. I think a lot of boxing games skip that part. It's just boxing, with little else. Here, it's coupled with some light adventure/story elements that I felt really added substance. The story is basically that Gunner turns to boxing as a way to turrn his life around. You'll have some interactions with a variety of characters, and of course do some boxing. It's cheeky, and enjoyable. The boxing is also pretty dang fun. I think it's my favorite boxing game released in years. I felt like there were some inspirations for the characters you fight based on characters from film and social media, and it was pretty satisfying to win a fight against those people. You can punch left/right, and do a power attack on the left right. Dodge, and block. Pretty simple to pick up and get the hang of, a little more difficult to get the hang of. On average it took me 2 or 3 times to beat most of the opponents. Occasionally I'd get it the first time, and sometimes I'd struggle in ways I can only describe as world-ending. But I was so invested in the game that I just took a break, jumped back in and fought my way back to victory. And, it was glorious. Now, I do want to point out that the combat is lacking a few things. We punch people in the face and that's it. I wish we had the ability to do some stomach punches, but I suppose face hits are the quickest to a KO. At times it also felt like there might have been a tiny bit of input lag. Or maybe I used that as an excuse for how poorly I was doing. Hard to tell. I tend to snowball into all of the wrong moves once things go wrong. There's an arcade mode at the end if you want to fight everyone without any of the story bits. That's a nice thing for replay value. It starts from the lowest opponent to the highest, and I wish you could just pick specific ones if you wanted. Ah well. In the vast sea of boxing titles, Bare Knuckle Sandwich punches well above its own perceived weight. If you like boxing titles, this is a title that almost certainly belongs in your library.
Solid experience for the price, left me wanting more.
I thoroughly enjoyed playing through this game! The plot of the story is intriguing and paces itself very well. The fighting along with satisfying sound design contribute to this games persona, as well as the unique opponents with lots of character and mechanics. The music and art style fit the game so well too
Great meat slapping sounds. For real though I really enjoy this game. The mechanics are solid and it's got a pretty fun story so far. The references are fun when ya find them and i enjoy the sas. Also v down for all the anti AI art messages that are sprinkled through that's mint.
A very satisfying punch-out-esque boxing game where you pummel your opponents (and get beaten up yourself). I love the variety of opponents you fight, each with their quirks and patterns to learn to battle against. Some matches are definitely challenging and really tests your skills and reflexes! Great pixel art, animations and music! It really sets the mood of the story of finding a purpose in this unforgiving world.
Pretty damn good simple satisfying boxing game, love the story and art style.
Cool lil game I bought on a whim. Nice stuff.
playing this feels like you are actually at a low point in your life
BKS has very similar fighting mechanizes to classics like Mike Tyson's: Punch Out and Title Fight. The fighting to me is not what sets this game apart though. Unlike the previous mentioned games It has a very fun and corky story about Gunner; a down and out no body that wants to make a name for himself in the underground fighting scene. Where you'll go up against many unique and over the top personas, some you may even recognize. When you aren't fighting you're roaming around the world helping people, buying things from the local pawn shop to customize your home, and more. The game also adds a lot of pop culture and social media references that I thought were really funny. Finally I like to mention the music. Games like these where there isn't a huge 20+ song playlist to fill the void when you're walking around have to still create sounds and music to keep you immersed in the game and I think RBS did a great job at this. The game was really enjoyable and for the price of a Big Mac its definitely worth it. And remember Titties > Ass
