This is by far the worst platform fighter I have ever played out of over a dozen. I absolutely love platform fighters which is why I want to make this comprehensive review on why this one is so bad. #1: Performance is abysmal! I am not a graphics person by any means but my experience has been unacceptably bad. My first match I chose the panda and the game ran so horrendously even offline in a local 1v1 against myself that the timer was 10 seconds into the match before the game even loaded, followed by super blurry movement and slow down. I went into the settings and lowered everything to the minimum possible settings. I'll admit I don't have the best PC ever but I have never found any issue running other platform fighters through Steam like this. Regardless, even on the lowest settings the game felt like it was lagging with blurry movement. I don't want to imagine what online is like if offline play hurts to look at. #2: Characters are not fun! You only have 4 characters at the start of the game and there are less than 10 total. You can have a great platform fighter with a small roster, see Rivals of Aether for example, but these characters are super under-polished in comparison. I tried playing the cat but just genuinely was not having any fun at all. Heck the dog literally would not even move or do anything when I tried them. Maybe it was a glitch but if so having a character glitch like that be someone's first impression of the game is not a good look at all. I had to close the game and reopen because it genuinely would not let me move or even pause. I did not even slightly enjoy my brief experience unfortunately. (Edit: I opened the game again after writing this to test the 4th character, the spartan. The move set felt basic, literally just using spear the character. Simplicity is fine if there's polish but this game is anything but polished.) #3: Lacking basic features! The options menu did not have any way of changing controls and the local play had no fighting against a computer option except the one side mode. I really do not like jump being the square and triangle buttons on my controller which made the experience extra unfun. I usually play platform fighters with a button being jump instead of holding up on the joystick but it's crazy that the option to have it be joystick isn't there either. There's no tutorial either BTW which is why I was mostly playing against myself to test out characters. IDK where else to put it but you can also just stay on ledge forever unless someone hits you or replaces you on the ledge. Keep that in mind for the next section. #4: Stages have massive glitches! While playing on the stage with a log in it, my opponent got stuck on the side of the mountain, just falling into it. Due to the bad controls (I am quite good at most platform fighters) and the weird move set decisions, even trying to hit them while they were stuck while playing as the cat seemed extremely difficult. Not only this, but I found an invisible platform even lower down the side that just lets me stand there. Someone can literally camp ledge, drop down here to camp on an invisible platform, and go back up. Seems like a very annoying possibility. I honestly only played 2 stages before giving up on this game but the fact I found multiple glitches like these on them means there probably are on other stages too. I am not interested enough in checking TBH. #5: Micro transactions already look insane! There's a shop button as soon as you boot up the game and it displays a skin that is $10. IDK who would pay $10 for a skin in a game this fundamentally incomplete despite claiming to be finished but the fact it's even there is wild. Oh and also the back button on my controller didn't even work here so I was permanently stuck in the shop menu. No matter how many times you soft lock me in a brief period of time, I am not spending money on this bad experience LOL. (Edit: I also got soft locked again in one of the menus after going back in to test the 4th character LOL.) Conclusion: Literally just play any other platform fighter. You will find way more fun characters in pretty much anything else out there, you will have more stages, you will have less glitches, you will have better performance, you will have more customization, you will have less soft locks, you will have less invisible platforms, you will have less greed shoved in your face, and undeniably will have a better time with almost any other game out there in this genre. Edit: Also I have a feeling multiple positive reviews are from the devs themselves or acquaintances because I genuinely and sincerely do not see any of the pros some of them are saying. The graphics, even in the hypothetical case of the game running better, are ok at best. I really would not trust some reviews the game has. Edit 2: I am even more confident that the devs are the positive reviews now LOL.
god awful asset flip with a ridiculous monetization on a game that has possibly the worst mechanics on the market, the lobby system kicks you out after a match, moves feel like they have no weight behind them and are unintuitive, all characters feel floaty, the art is just generic and feels ripoffish (a panda that does kung fu is called foo, really?) and the devs have the audacity to call this a full launch, dont waste your time with this, i am also certain all the good reviews are either bots, paid shills or friends/family of the devs. the top review (that has a monkey nft profile pic) says that he follows platform fighters closely and that supported rivals 2 kickstarter only has 1 hour of playtime on it, completely ridiculous
This is my first steam review, I played this game in early alpha with many professional platform fighter players at the largest offline tournament for the game at battle of BC in Vancouver, we gave multiple points of feedback to the dev team and had a good time while recognizing the game was extremely rough around the edges due to its early dev state. The game has released in essentially the same state as the build I played in March 2025 with even less content somehow. Monetizing your game through character unlocks is a good way to kill it. The animations and UI and game feel are all totally abhorrent and should not have released in this state to the public, both single player and multiplayer modes resulted in crashes for me in an under 30 minute session but no matter how much additional time and attention those elements are given, with this montetization platform, the game wont see a dedicated permanent playerbase anyway.
I would comment on how the gameplay feels terrible, but there's a 1 out of 3 chance you can even get to gameplay before it crashes and forces a PC restart. That should probably be addressed first.
My journey with platform fighters hasn't been long, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. People generally consider Brawlout as a bad platform fighter. Now take this: Brawlout feels as the greatest game ever compared to this mess. Videos cannot tell how bad controlling the characters feel, how terrible the hit/hurtboxes are and how unresponsive the overall game is. I'd say the game looks good and the music in the menu is nice. That's all. Not worth your time, even if the game is free.
This game is a broken, unfinished, cash grab, god awful affront to the entire genre of platform fighters. Hell, to fighting games themselves. Hell, it's simple existence is a piss on the grave of games as an artistic medium. This AI-generated cryptoslop excuse of a "game" feels like trying to play a game built with Scratch off 40mg of some ♥♥♥♥ you find on the floor of a 100 gecs concert. The sound effects are inconsistent and bland, the animation is no better, and the movesets hardly make any sense. The game constantly tries to get you to buy "keys" without any explanation as to what they do, and half the options on the menu just lead to nothing. The gameplay is unrewarding and confusing, with hardly any consistency in knockback, damage, or direction it seems like a roll of the dice as to whether your hit will have no impact what so ever or send your opponent flying obscenely far, completely ruining any potential follow up. I'm a sucker for a bad game. but Bam Bam Boom isn't even enjoyable ironically because half the time the game turns my screen black in the middle of a match. It's truly disappointing to see a genre with such incredible love and care put into games like Combo Devils, Rivals of Aether, and A Few Quick Matches disgraced in such a way.
i cant believe they made a game worse than flash party
Font reflects gameplay Gut reaction of a first review, but let clarify. The gameplay feels unclear as hell, as the feed back from some moves just doesn't feel the best, especially upon whiff and shield hit. The lack of sounds has a clear effect of making the attacks feel empty, then slightly jarring on hit. Why does hitting shields NOT have a sound??? Why does spartan's spear sweetspot have the exact same sound as a dog hitting you??? Whatt??? Also also, the effects of the attacks themselves also feel dissatisfying, you can especially feel this on spartan among... practically all the cast. The animations don't exactly help the case as well, alot of them feeling stiff and unclear at some points in time. This is the full release right??? Why the hell isn't there a clear place for the tutorial? Why didn't the game tell me u have 2 up b's? Why do i have to find out that u can cancel attacks with the dash/jump without the game actually telling me this information? Sure, u can 'intuit' this stuff from the bots, but that REALLY shouldn't be the case. Also, where the hell is the training mode?! I ain't got another controller on me (dirty keyboard player here) and I tried to do the local play to do even a mockery of a training mode, but couldn't even make another player, lest be it's unclear, hence the beginning statement. I saw another review comment on the airdashes feeling atrocious, and I do have to agree... like WHY IS THERE LANDING LAG ON THE AIRDASH?!?! WHAT?!?! It's a *movement* tool, why am I getting punished for tryna move?! Also the ground movement even WITH the dashes feels weird and sloppy, making the movement feel awkward and stiff. Also, where is the feedback to killing/getting killed?!??!?! U get hit by an attack, teleport to the blast zone, and like FRAME 1(exaggeration but quite close) ur instantly respawned, even before the effect runs out?! Give the player time to breath mates! and WHY DOES RESPAWNING HAVE IINSANE LANDING LAG, WHAT?!! You can sorta drift after respawning, making it feel like u have control, then it decides that you *need* to be locked out of that movement for a questionably long amount of time, which feels *awful*. Then, going into the course challenge, you literally just disappear when going into a killbox (which honestly the floor don't look like a kill box gon be completely honest) and respawn. No fan fare, no sounds, nada, zip, nothing.... this is a finished product?! Streets be saying so, even though it's COMPLETELY not in a state to be called so. Why???? as a conclusion to this messy, angry rant: - Animations aren't up to snuff to where they need to be in my opinion - Sounds are missing everywhere that isn't a hit, leading to unclear gameplay and unsatisfying attacks, and hit sounds are also quite samey - Where the hell is the tutorial on a FINISHED GAME - Movement feels clunky/stiff (WHY DOES AIRDASH HAVE SUCH LONG LAND LAG) - Lack of feedback on getting killed (you literally just unceremoniously disappear then reappear so suddenly it's jarring) So, actually, lemme revise my opening statement, because I could at least read most of the text: Font is clearer than gameplay.
