I don't think I have ever seen such a throwaway publisher. Spamming low effort games which clearly are not finished or fun, then selling them for 200$ with a 95%-99% sale and hoping anyone is dumb enough to not see through this scummy strategy. And if you do not have a 16:9 screen, don't even bother cause then it's literally not possible to finish the game cause important game elements are outside the screen in level 14...
i wish they made this in rl
Balloon Saga developed and published by Hede is a small-scale physics puzzle game built around an unusual and whimsical concept: helping a character ascend a mountain using balloons while manipulating environmental mechanisms. The game combines simple physics interactions with light puzzle-solving mechanics, encouraging players to experiment with different environmental tools in order to guide the balloon-powered ascent safely through each level. While its design is relatively minimalistic, the game attempts to create engaging puzzles through mechanical interactions involving wind, gears, and various obstacles. The central objective of the game is to guide the character upward toward the summit of a mountain by solving a series of puzzle stages. Instead of directly controlling movement like a traditional platformer, players interact with elements in the environment that influence how the balloons behave. These balloons provide the lifting force needed to carry the character upward, but they can easily be disrupted by environmental hazards such as falling debris or shifting air currents. This creates a gameplay dynamic where the player’s role is less about direct movement and more about preparing the environment so that the ascent can happen safely. Each level introduces a new configuration of obstacles and mechanical devices that players must manipulate in order to reach the goal. Wind currents can be redirected to push the balloons in specific directions, gears can be rotated to open pathways or activate machinery, and containers can be used to protect the balloons from environmental threats. In some stages, players must trigger rockets or other devices that alter the layout of the puzzle. These elements function as the building blocks of each challenge, requiring players to analyze the environment carefully and determine the correct sequence of actions. The puzzles gradually become more involved as the game progresses. Early levels serve as tutorials that introduce the basic mechanics, allowing players to learn how wind currents and mechanical objects interact with the balloons. Later stages combine multiple puzzle elements at once, requiring players to coordinate several mechanisms in order to create a safe path upward. For example, redirecting wind may open one path but simultaneously create a hazard elsewhere, forcing players to consider the consequences of each action before proceeding. Progression is supported by a star-based scoring system that rewards efficiency. Completing a level grants a star rating depending on how effectively the puzzle was solved. Players who complete the level using the optimal sequence of actions receive the maximum rating, encouraging them to revisit earlier stages and improve their performance. This system adds a small layer of replayability, especially for players who enjoy refining puzzle solutions and achieving perfect scores. Visually, the game adopts a clean and simple 2D presentation that emphasizes clarity over detailed graphics. The characters, balloons, and puzzle mechanisms are represented using bright colors and clear shapes that make it easy to identify interactive objects. Environmental elements such as gears and wind sources are designed to stand out visually so players can quickly understand how the puzzle components are arranged. Although the visual style is basic, it effectively supports the gameplay by ensuring that important mechanics remain easy to recognize. The sound design follows a similarly minimalist approach. Soft background music accompanies the puzzle-solving process, creating a calm atmosphere that suits the game’s slow-paced gameplay. Sound effects are used to highlight interactions such as gears turning, wind mechanisms activating, or rockets launching. While the audio presentation is modest, it helps reinforce the feedback players receive from manipulating the environment. One of the game’s strengths lies in its accessibility. The mechanics are easy to understand, and players can quickly grasp how to interact with the puzzle elements. Because each level is relatively short, the game works well for brief sessions where players can solve a few puzzles without committing to a long playthrough. The combination of simple controls and quick challenges makes it approachable for casual players who enjoy light puzzle games. However, the simplicity of the design also introduces some limitations. The core mechanics remain largely the same throughout the experience, and the puzzles rely heavily on the same set of interactions involving wind and mechanical devices. Although the level layouts change, the overall gameplay loop does not evolve significantly, which can make the experience feel repetitive after a while. Another limitation is the absence of a deeper narrative or world-building elements. The game provides little context beyond the basic objective of reaching the top of the mountain. Without characters, story development, or evolving environments, the motivation to continue playing relies entirely on the satisfaction of solving puzzles and improving star ratings. Despite these drawbacks, Balloon Saga still manages to provide moments of genuine satisfaction when players successfully solve a difficult puzzle. Discovering the correct sequence of actions and watching the balloons carry the character safely through the level can create rewarding “aha” moments. These moments of discovery form the core appeal of the game, even if the overall experience remains relatively brief. Ultimately, Balloon Saga is best understood as a modest indie puzzle project that explores environmental physics through simple mechanics. While it lacks the depth and variety of larger puzzle titles, its accessible design and straightforward challenges make it a casual experience that can be enjoyed in short bursts. For players who appreciate lightweight puzzle games focused on experimentation and environmental manipulation, it offers a brief but occasionally satisfying journey toward the summit. Rating: 6/10
